I agree with that, and I appreciate your tone. If you see anything you’d like moved to the front page, please dont hesistate to email me and let me know about it.
Don’t sell yourself short. Also nothings stopping you from contributing now. I see you post a lot, but it’s rarely discussing strategy. I think if you are in that mentality of finding new tricks/strategies and documenting them, it lets you continue to come up with new stuff and have new ideas.
(manifests chair like Doom)
Ugh. I finally manage to fall asleep and then Rita Repulsa throws her damn staff at the thread.
Can’t we let bygones be bygones? (I’m guessing is the answer probably not since we’re all humans.)
Ah, I see what you’re getting at ultimately. I concur with that. Apologies for the misunderstanding.
I must admit, I’m not seeing the point with anything else in your quote that I excised. Just because something isn’t good by your standards or the “mainstream”/history’s eventual yet ever-changing standards doesn’t not mean it’s part of (that) culture. That’s like saying cheerleaders aren’t part of sports culture even though they literally add nothing to the actual game (except some T & A for those who like that).
Trust me. Pretty much everything within a given field is part of that field’s culture. When I used to work at a bookstore, I had to hock Twilight of all things I can’t remember how many times. Is that series of books good? Hell no. Is it part of literary and even mainstream culture now? Unfortunately, yes.
I can understand finding fighting-game story stuff unimportant–“embarrassing” is a bit much though, especially since there will always be “creepers” who say creepy shit. However, and this is massively hypocritical of me given how much of a worry-wort I am about a lot things in real life, it’s really pointless to worry about all that stuff casting a (significant) blight upon the community…unless you (plural) do nothing to create actually substantive content to show how unimportant it actually is and it takes over.
Basically, we’ll know we’re “doomed” when Kayo Police’s latest cosplay takes over the front page like it’s taken over (only parts of) the forums since otherwise it’s not like people who don’t know about it will find it unless they just happen to see it scrolling at the top. That is a…pretty slim chance even given how many replies happen per second.
I usually only discuss strategy in the character sub-forums, but you’re right, my general postings are a bit more…recreational in nature. I really should get around to buckling down and taking this a bit more seriously.
Ok, cool. My do it yourself refrain is to simply let you know thats what its going to be. I’ve watched you put in work but the audience your speaking to is a new generation… and its attention span is horrible. So again champ… your next step in ‘shifting the focus’? I’ll continue this convo when i see you in person champ…
There are a lot of good points being brought up in here. I really should have noticed this earlier, but I got too caught up in the stuff. Now that I think about it there is a bit too much fluff and not enough substance.
We could easily fix that though if we work together to bring information to this site.
For one thing, the wikis that aren’t for the major games are completely unorganized/unfinished. I wanted to look at the wiki while learning CvS2, but I find that several pages are totally blank. We need to provide some information and organization to these wikis.
I understand your position. My point is that I feel like SRK should be the “next step”. Creating yet another undermanned site for the A.D.D. crowd to ignore after a week, really isn’t the smartest move to me.
Whatever though. You coming to the tournament/BBQ next week?
I was always under the impression that the reason more top players didn’t post strats on here is because they didn’t want to give hints that other people could use to figure them out (i.e. defeat them)
Another reason I’ve heard over the years is “I’m not going to play the game for you.” I mean I get that you have to find things yourself, but if everybody found like one good thing and contributed, and if those observations were organized appropriately, people would level up pretty quickly.
Although, I suppose it depends on how many people play your game too. Like, for instance, Damdai and Seb did Super Turbo Saturdays. Those are really great bc Damdai will literally break things down for you so that anybody can understand. Sirlin’s beginner’s ST videos are also nice.
I just wish doing things like this was the attitude of the community in general
Seriously I would fucking love to help.
Throw the hate on me all day, haha.
We’ve been doing this in our irc room and livestream since Vanilla. (No trolling allowed).
I feel terrible.
I tried going to your site, but it is currently down.
The site is under construction aka being updated.
What’s the last tourney you saw Fuudo at before EVO?
/discussion
^ Maybe in a different thread, yo.
My experiences with the front page are as follows:
My first experience with it was when Aniken along with a few others had done a stream of them playing HDR and showing other japanese players how to get ahold of the game aswell as the numerous options and their reactions to the changes.
Sent it in to keits and it got a footnote in another article if you looked closely enough.
A few days to a week or so later Novril-Tataki aka Playtowin on youtube sent in the same thing which lead to it getting a new separate article focused solely on it.
Nothing against Novril he’s a nice guy and he did what anyone would have done.
This raised some questions for me however but i didn’t really mind that much considering it was just more exposure.
My first big disappointment came after last years EVO when SnakeEyez pulled of his amazing victory with Zangief and i know myself and probably a few others looked forward to the interview and other things this would surely lead to after such an amazing event.
After some waiting nothing had appeared but we did get an article about what Daigo’s favourite food was.
My last dealing with the frontpage due to feeling it was a waste of time came after an amazing discovery by Kuroppi also i believe known as Bob Painter an oldschool SF player that came across VHS tapes featuring the very first ST tournament in America.
Which possibly may also have been the very first ST tournament in the world and featured players like Watson and Schaeffer playing back in their heyday. Absolutely fascinating to watch both to see how the game has evolved and allowing new players to see the roots of the community.
Obviously the common sentiment in the thread was “WE NEED TO GET THIS TO THE FRONTPAGE WE NEED TO NOMINATE AND SEND THIS IN”.
So we did, myself included as well as many others both from the thread and from outside.
This amounted to nothing.
This led to me swearing of sending in suggestions. Because if something like that is not worth an article nothing is.
Even now there is still great content coming out of the ST section such as interviews with legendary players such as Professor Jones and Afrolegends aswell as new players such as Spinalblood who came out of Italy with the most amazing N.Sagat play i have ever seen since Yaya.
And numerous other discoveries such as a mame based training mode which has stunmeters, precise health and ability to see wheter you are in throw range at any time or wheter you have a super stored or can throw a fireball, just amazing stuff.
But really why bother sending it in. It’s not a comeback video set to remixed video game music nor is it a highly impractical flashy combo that you will never see in a match.
The other problem is that there is no moderation, so you’re just going to have trolls and idiots spamming the comments with random dumb shit that they don’t understand, and the mods don’t really care because they let them get away with it.
I want you to answer this: When have you ever read the comment section of an article and seen some actual insightful and good comments.
Probably very few times and that is because nobody wants to put their voice out there among the idiots which means that is all you get now because SRK’s moderation staff dropped the ball.
That turned out a lot longer than i intended but alas that is how i have experienced the situation.
Fuudo placed first, beating Daigo in grand finals.
You were suppose to ignore him because it was already mentioned in this topic if he cared to read it.
the kuroppi vids got a link at the end of a longer interview with kuroppi (you had to click the title to read “more” to see it), i remember that and being bothered that it wasn’t its own separate post or at the top of it.
theres a ton of players that don’t get any exposure at all because of being bad at “marketing”. for example, bama/georgia has several decent players in the various games but the south is ignored, the only thing that made ppl on stream commentary even notice or know who they are is Shinblanka finally saying fuck it and putting a FR (final round) tag in front of the name of every player that we send to majors and suddenly they say “oh you’re sponsored and you have jersey” and that’s what it takes for them to recognize. not the top 8s, top 16s, not the solid players. but before “FR” and the jerseys we just had eventhubs post “Marn sent to losers by unknown zangief”.
you have some vid of gootecks saying “i know your name now” like he’s the big shit to pokchop, when pokchop has top 3’d far more high level tekken tournaments than mr. “i’m mike ross’s friend” has top 3’d in any game at all.
Topanga Cup?
