SRK D&D game Prelims and Sign-up thread: Paladins for Righteousness and Booty (mostly booty)

Okay I am gonna use my ranger first for sure, I think I am gonna forgo ranger spells and gain an extra feat so I can pick Item Familiar and use it on my bow. That will give me the desired effect I am looking to roleplay. Just gotta wait a level lol. Not gonna use poison since most of them are gonna be hard to justify with my alignment. But I think I have a good build, basically a knowledge based, accurate archer, that excels at giving helpful tips for my allies as well as putting arrows in critical monster spots.

@manx take a look at my archer and make any changes you feel necessary, otherwise she is good to go.

3rd level Elven Ranger Lydia at ya’lls disposal.

Pretty sure I’m done with specing my character at least.
Not totally sure about the direction I’m planning on going with my fighter, I originally wanted to build primarily for AC, then I wanted to do about four or five other things, a lot of which is counter productive to one another.

My character is Rogue (1) Fighter (2) with a gimmick that lets her sneak attack whenever she feints, and I took improved feint as one of my fighter feats. Other than that, I’m kind of winging it. Skills are all over the place, and I don’t have a plan for the endgame.

Slowly putting together a backstory, still don’t officially have a name yet.
Basically doing a Finn the Human type of character, or Fiona as it were, that’s how I built her and more or less how I plan on playing her.

Thought I would share this with everyone

http://merung.net/DandD3.5/3.5%20D&D%20Books/

It’s pretty good start but the problem with it is that is only a fraction of 3.5’s books unfortunately. I compiled my digital collection from scouring the web then you have all of the setting specific books ect. Its a shame that it seems no one has a completely complete collection. You did find alot of keepers though. In regards to the weapon due to race proficency it kinda sucks but no there are no bonuses unless there is a homerule in place that states otherwise. But hey if you are an elven wizard then you have some melee weapons at your disposal you otherwise would not have due to class restrictions.

Realized that I had fucked up on my stats from the get go lol, gonna have to dump a few levels in bloodlines to overcome these shitty ability scores I have…

Double post, Maybe @Manx should give us a brief look at the world we are going to be in?

That might help some people with finalizing their characters.

Just remember you want the most used stat. to be the highest in most cases this is a attack score. everything else is discretion and also try to not have a negative modifier if you can help it. You can always roll for any skill check even if you are not proficient in the skill excluding hidden or race skills. Case and point I had to use intuit direction once and I had nothing in it and rolled a twenty the rest of the party got snake eyes so we went with my roll. So it might not always help out but you never know what skill you may have to use. So stat points in something can help out. Cross class skills don’t lvl up as fast but it may help you out in a bind.

For some reason I thought you needed at least 1 in a lot of skills to attempt to use it.
I’m really rusty with 3.5

Oh I got that, just that I didn’t add my points up right to begin with, forgot to subtract to point for my elf and both of my characters have one stat that gives them negatives, but what do you expect when you have to spend half your points in order to make one ability shine. I had to do a lot to make the monk not suck since they are multiple ability dependent.

This is my ranger

http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheetview.php?sheetid=668137

I went with this weapon enhancement instead of bane.

I want that to match up with what my character does, and make it seem as if I am actually doing my job as a ranger and take us towards the danger instead of blindly rushing into shit.

Think I might change my ability scores again just to make her more balanced if not more bland…

That’s only for skills that say “trained only”

Anyone can attempt to jump or swim, but I am not sure if you can do things like take 10 with them, if you dont have any ranks in them.

You should be able to take ten with anything the only time taking ten will not work is if you are under duress. Or as stated trained or secret skills. Combat lasts seconds and a min. of actual combat lasts forever. In the case of skills like if there was a rickety bridge or what not you can always choose to take ten. Now if there is a Rickety Bridge and a host of Orcs chasing you you can still choose to take ten but you will reap the reward of a death by orcs. Instead of rolling a balance check on the run or a jump check for the last 5-8 ft jump to clear the bridge in the event it collapses. Taking ten should only be done if you have the time to do it and never under duress or combat circumstances.

Angelpalm sheet looks pretty good if you plan on using a melee weapon as anything other than last resort in the event you run out of arrows, look into weapon finesse to get some more out of the build. If you are just using it as a fallback then don’t worry about it. Also nice use of the materials for your weapon makeup.

Some stupid questions since it has been so long since I’ve done a 3.5 character.

  1. For hit points I add my CON modifier right? So if my Modifier is +2, I will be 1D4+2 for health? EDIT: Yes it does, duh.

  2. Are the skills listed under my Class the only skills I am trained in, or is there general purpose ones everyone should know? Since my sheet has a ton already marked as known for some reason. EDIT: Figured this out as well when browsing 3.5 stuff.

The way skills work in 3.5

Your character is given Skill Points according to their class and Intelligence modifier.

Once given points, you can choose any skill you wish. Skill that appear on your class’s skill list (known as class skills) cost 1 point per rank, while skills that do not appear (known as cross-class skills) cost 2 points per rank.

You are limited to a maximum number of ranks in any class skill equal to your character level + 3. Cross class are limited to half that number. You may acquire a half rank in a skill if you do not have enough points to gain a rank. A half rank merely allows you to train the skill.

Some skills can be used regardless of whether or not you have points in them while others require training in order to utilize them.

If anyone has anymore questions, holla. I’ma watch League of Legends World Finals here in about an hour. But until then I’ll be around to answer questions.

@Neesa, @Azure, & @Ayo?! Can you add me to your character sheets? If you need help getting one let me know.

@Manx Oh yeah. Uh… Gimme a sec. I wanted to start drawing up my character, but, I don’t remember which races we already have. No. I’m not gonna be a dwarf!

Got it. Thanks.

I’ma go over all the sheets I’ve got and get without you guys. Good going. Only two more sheets to go.

But I’ma watch this game first though.

I think a couple of you need some skill ranks and feats, but everything so far looks good. I’ll get with those that need help with that later on today.

Almost done. We need

  1. Skills for everyone
  2. Feats for everyone
  3. Items for some people
  4. Spells/Magic stuff

And that’s it. Also, need character shets from @Azure and @Ayo?!

Also, spells if you got them. Might want to start looking at some lv. 0 and 1 spells that you might need.

My sheet so far.

Hey Rock just remember Bastard Swords like Katanas only require the feat if you wield it one handed so for whatever reason if you lose your shield and two hand to apply your strength then you are always good. Nice sheet all around oh yeah and power attack for anyone else who got it, it is in regards to your lvl modifier so at lvl one you can only take out a one if you are a melee class. -1 to hit +1 to damage

Ayo I messaged you did you still need help or are you good now?

Rocks stats are all over the place. Isnt charisma a dump stat for u anyway?
