Something I was taught of operating an M16A4 is there is more to pulling the trigger to fire. Although I haven’t reached the shooting stage as a marine recruit, our overruling master of the day would have us recite steps to condition weapon over and over. Means you need to put in a magazine with rounds, fire selector off safety-on semi or burst, pull back charging handle to chamber bullet and then squeeze trigger to shoot. Basic stuff to show attention required in attending the rules of your rifle. @“Shaft Agent” Another aspects I’ve learned is that though the M16 has a switch to lock the bolt to the rear, pulling the charge handle uses it the same. And putting force on the back of the gun or upper receiver can send the bolt front. A trait others may not know about the rifle is the buttstock houses a push spring mechanism which serves to take recoil.
