So I think I found the staple of Viper offense for the future? It takes some getting use to, but definitely not impossible to master. Been trying to figure out more of her seismo game. Everyone knows. OH yes she controls the ground, but no one really takes the time to learn much else from there. Her seismo’s have to be the best source of closing in the gap and creating mad pressure without an assist. Seismo has to be the most ridiculous move in the game because you can do absolutely anything after it. Right now I’ve been getting use to Seismo FADC Seismo as a near blockstring. It is damn near ‘wtf this guy has to be mashing’ if someone was looking at my hands. Once you get mid range that is all you need to really get something going. A seismo from there gives you so options to go forward. The mix-up potential and ability to ground the opponent with a seismo on block is ridiculous. Before this I just thought Viper’s Mix-up potential was very little and high-risk with what I had figured out at mid range, but going back to it now I see soooooo many more things now. Much safer at that.

It is still a work in progress but wait for a video. I don’t know when I will be able to implement this into a game, because I’m early in the stage of figuring it out, but I already have that gut feeling this is going to be amazing. Just like when you first picked up viper and figured out she can cancel all her special moves you just know there are so many creative possibilities with this character.

I was hoping for her Dr. Viper costume.

Makes sense with her SHIELD connection and their scientist division.

So, I was playing some casuals with MarlinPie and 2 other people before the 5v5 EC v WC started and I was told to actually take a look because the few people that post here actually know what they are talking about.

I don’t think I got the name of the person I talked to, but he used Dorm Viper and someone else and was discussing the pros and cons of Dorm on point. So, I guess this is an introduction.

My name is John, I’m from Alabama and I play Viper Dorm/Felicia (I swap those two around a bit). If I played you at EVO, good stuff and sorry for dropping stuff, haha. Nice to meet the Viper forums.

Welcome John. Yea this is one of the few character forums imo that really knows whats going on with the character. Especially since we have a excellent player and theorist in Chrisis.

Well, Viper gives us lots to talk about/play with. It’s not like Wolverine where you just do Berserker Slash (BS for short), or dive kick.

I liked looking at the Wolverine forums a while back and seeing the list of combos which were very slight variations to his regular BnB. Don’t know if it’s like that now, but yeah. Anyways… Welcome to the forum John. What assists do you use with your team?

Lol thats the same thing that happened in the Wesker forums for awhile. People in the combo thread literally posted the same 2 or 3 combos over and over again but instead of “X” assist extending it it was “Y” assist so I guess to them that meant different. That forum is incredibly dead now, not much to talk about with Wesker except his Yomi game and Viscant made a thread and the initial post literally has 95% of what you need to know about him so after that there is zilch to talk about with Wesker haha.

Wesker is all mixups, and some of those can get fairly advanced. But Wolvie, he has a fucking mixup button. I hate that design, Mixup is something you do… not a button you press… stupid fucking berserker slash. But hey, they fixed it in ultimate.

Oh yeah… And I just got bodied pretty badly for the past 2 hours by a Chris/Zero/Jill team. Think we played 3 sets because we kept getting disconnected. It went something like 7-26 6-27 and 10-29. Cool guy. Really does well with the team he has. His assists were only used in combos. Otherwise he just used point characters, which makes me kind of angry because he didn’t need them with the way he was playing. I was probably just not figuring out how to deal with it. His Chris was easier to get in on, but once Zero came out I was surprised if I ever got a hit on him… same with Jill. I believe the only times I really got hits on his zero or Jill was off of random normals with Magneto (very random and I never had to pray so much for a normal to work) or when Chris had just died and they were coming in on the free mix-up. I would on occasion get a projectile hit but not much. Dante was pretty much like haggar for me in the third slot. Once he came out and it was against Jill or Zero there was no chance I was getting a hit on them.

I noticed his tendancies but since it was zero it was harder to punish them. I should have used jam session more but through the blockstrings and barrage of buster shots I couldn’t get much going.

And once I got to Jill it was usually an OCV. Such great mobility and understanding to what was going on. I would try and stay out of range but that arrow kick shot thingy is so good at getting across the screen. Up close he would make me block an arrow kick and go into a teleport. His plan was simple with Jill but it worked so well. I would have to do some type of random hyper to get through a few things, but then a machine gun hyper would come which is completely safe on block. If I got hit with the machine gun hyper he would x-factor on landing and then destroy a character. I recorded the footage and might grab some of the more interesting/closer matches to place up in the forum to show my viper of course if the guy gives me permission. Hopefully it will give other vipers ideas and really more importantly… someone can show me what I could have done better. lol

Oh yeah and on 2 occasions hammer with dante was beat by jill uppercut. :[ Enough said.

Jill is a very underrated character… but she’s still a poor mans Wesker.

Never screw with Stance jill. Her Feral C cannot be fucked with…

I’m not sure if i can even say she’s a poor man’s wesker after what I had seen. With assists im sure she’d be a beast. But this guy used her alone and I couldn’t touch her. I’ve played a lot of weskers though and I know how to punish his things. Online those left right mix-up characters are a damn pain to deal with because of that tad bit of latency, but thats Marvel.

Another thing I couldn’t really mash out a move with a character after an arrow kick because she could either teleport up, behind me in which if i did anything other than a light hit i was screwed because the first hit registers on the side she will not be at. Or you know her invincible somersault… dirty. Dirty…

Weskers mixups really aren’t too advanced. Assist+teleports for easy left rights to open them up and then at the end of your combos you OTG shot and go for the air throw or air loop basically. You can dash under mid screen for some left/rights and in the corner you can do some things with his air loop if they block it as they land (like do the air S close to the ground so it hits overhead just as they land. Or hit air S right as they are landing and go into either a low normal or command grab). He definately isn’t Wolvie by any means in terms of easy mode mix ups but they really aren’t difficult because of how Godlike the set up is (at the end of a combo OTG shot, I mean you get there every time) and how Godlike his tools are (1 frame command grab, low normals, very nice/easy air loop, teleport + assists etc.)

I still have yet to face a competent Jill player so if I ever ran into one that knew even how to use her to the slightest I would get bodied for 0 matchup knowledge. I have been meaning to take her to the lab as she is one of the few characters that interest me in this game but I haven’t been playing much MvC3 lately for some reason. I have been on this Yang/Seth binge in SF4… plus I have said this multiple times the netcode lol and no one around here locally has been holding much casual sessions are anything.

Well, her up close game is “technically” better, but its the same idea, except without the Kara-Command grab, and super safe wavedash-auto-correct mixups.

I play alot of Jill (I have an execution fetish I think), so here’s some Jill notes, they might help:
1)Jump is a good option against her, her air grab doesn’t yield alot of damage unless she DHC’s.
2)You can’t block a good jill, I don’t recommend “waiting it out”, do something…
3)Her mobility from full screen is pretty bad, zone her out
4)Feral C (flash kick) is fully invul and can be JC’d, Push block it.
5)Feral B and 236C can be stance canceled for big frame advantage, so don’t try to mash out here.
6)Her gun super is -7, it’s awkward do deal with, but it isn’t a get in free card
7)Her somersault assist (used for Counter Assault) is super, super, ultra dirty, be wary of throwing out random things for chip or using really laggy moves/strings. Things like Sentinals S and Ammy’s 6CCCCC can be death traps.

If you have any Jill specific matchup questions I might be able to help out a bit.

Yea Jill seems like one of those characters like if her tools were really really good then someone somewhere should be doing something with her. I literally cant name 1 notable Jill player. She doesn’t seem bad, but kind of in that limbo stage between bad and good lol. basically WTF tier.

Pulsr and Clockwork rock mean Jills, but you can pick other characters. Sadly, alot of characters in Vanilla MvC3 suffer from other characters doing their thing better. it doesn’t make them bad, but there’s there’s alot to be said for the “the battle starts at the character Select screen” thought process.

Jill can be annoying. Alot of people fight against her like she’s a bad character and has nothing on anyone, but that just isn’t the case. There are lots of characters that aren’t god tier and can still wreck shop, Iron Man and Viper are good examples of this too.

I guess the one flattering thing this guy messaged me was asking if I was Kbeast. I was happy. Lol

I use Dark hole, rolling buckler, and either Burnkick or Seismo. I don’t really use assists in my combos as whenever dorm comes in the black hole either doesn’t, or barely hits like 3 times. I suppose I should work on that stuff.

How do you play your team Xeedoc? just curious. I can tell you right now Dorm does really nothing for Viper in terms of assists. Those assists are just too shoddy. Even for combos I couldn’t see you getting much damage out of black hole. Might be a decent help to her zoning game but other than that the assist isn’t that good for her. I’m certain there is probably more than 2 or 3 unblockable setups with felicia/viper. They get across the screen and use high-lows in such a way that if you’re creative enough you can get something in there.

hanging out with chrisis at evo has inspired me to learn viper so i’m trying to learn this squiggles loop he kept telling me about.

so i know i’m doing it right it’s: (combo into) L seismo, sj. ADF, H xx L BK feint, HS xx L BK, land, low H into whatever?

while we’re at it what solo BnB should I be going for? i’ve been playing around with ex TK hitconfirms into the box and such but, i’m worried i might be focusing my efforts in the wrong direction. there are a lot of combos out there and being new to the character i’d rather not confuse myself with too many variations of the same thing.

Well since you’ve already used one meter you want to keep it to that one meter. Or atleast that is how I see it. I hate wasting meter when I know there are better alternatives. From any st.M st.H M.TK EX.TK you can quite possibly grab a netgain of 2 bars give or take. So it should be a dead character in most cases. My BnB after an EX.TK is one of two combos, and it really is whatever i feel like doing lol. Does about the same damage and netgains same meter. But the easier one i use is

after EX.TK l.Seismo SJ IADF j.H j.S L.BK/feint j.H (wait just a bit) j.S (land) st.H st.S (Super jump) jM jM jH (DJ) jM jM jH jS. By then you’ll be in a corner to do a magneto relaunch or something of a sort there. Both my assists are used in combos to grab me anywhere from 75k to 150k damage and not use another EX.Bar to continue the combo. What assists are you using?
