I started buying Spawn when it first came out, My brother collected heaps of the figures.
But I lost interest for the same reasons as everyone else on this thread. Too much whining and self pity.
It got really cool around the 50 mark where Spawn went to hell. It started picking up around 60 where it actually looked like it was going somewhere till Al’s face melted off and we were back to square one again.
It’d be interesting to get a recap on the series. Maybe I’ll just wiki it.

Well I hate Spawn I think it’s a horrible comic book created by a horrible human being who is the very epitome of the word sellout.

The greatest thing that ever came out of Spawn was the giant boot on his right foot that he just started wearing one day. That was just awesome.
Even the greatest Spawn haters among us has to agree that the original costume design is one of the better ones in popular comics though, right? There’s no such thing as too much cape or two many chains - I don’t even want to see his body.

and Sano, I recommend picking up the violator 3 part special if you want to see the rest of the phlebiac brothers. I picked them up along with some other special spawn comics like the spawn bible, angela special, etc.
Also gonna pick up the collected version of the shadows of spawn manga, I liked vol 2, so it’d save me money on buying the other 2 books.

The last TPB, Volume 4 was funny - goes up to issue 75. Al Simmons got his old face back for a while, but he waisted that time threatening Wynn. He told Terry he was gonna take Wanda back. Little did he know that his face went back to being all burned up. He put on the best threads he could find, went walking down the street thinking of the song “Staying Alive” in his head like he was John Travolta. People on the street started laughing at him and someone said something like, “Just because you dress up a piece of shit doesn’t mean it’s not a piece of shit!” He saw his reflection and saw he was all burnt up again, missing his opportunity to talk to Wanda, D’OH! 
Cyan is going crazy. She started foaming at the mouth when Spawn was in Hell. She’s attached to the shoelace Spawn used to hold his face together something fierce, it flew out of a car and she got out in heavy traffic to go get it. Dang Violator must of messed her up bigtime when he kidnapped her…

I have that issue around somewhere too, great story arc. And the part with Cyan using his “face lace” as her pacifier string was so wrong. Does she know where that things been??
Fuck,I cannot find the Gunslinger Spawn issues(174-175) for shit anywhere. All my comic stores have pretty much every issue in the post armageddon arc, EXCEPT for those two <_<, at the very least I did score the Mandarin Spawn one shot(165) so that was cool, though I wasn’t getting cool vibes from the guy at the register.(Almost walked out if not for that issue). bleh, I think i’ll just go buy the figure tomorrow and be done with it.
Meh, I just started collecting Spawn figures one day out of the blue. I don’t read the comics nor have the full backstory behind spawn either. Cool looking dude.
yeah, I love the toys. I haven’t read the comics in a few years now so I’m not sure what’s happening. Most the stuff Spawn and movie/game figures they produce are great in my eyes. Off the three display shelves I have of my collection, one entire bookcase is filled with Spawn and McFarlane Toys figures. Unfortunately, I’m just not happy with the tiny scale of the HALO 3 figures so I’m sadly going to pass on those.
Did you ever get the Mandarin one shot SMB? It’s a pretty cool story, wish he had gotten more screentime like Gunslinger did, but the fact he got his own issue was great, he’s one of the favorites in my collection.
The comics have taken sorta a horror story spin since the end of the Armageddon arc, the new issues are actually selling faster than the old ones, though probably still not as much as when Spawn premiered. The new direction’s pretty good I hear, though I haven’t gotten any of the issues(been more concerned with getting some of the special issues from the first run)
I haven’t read Spawn in years, but recently I started again. I tried to catch up by reading the Armageddon arc, but it was just too convoluted and lacked the epic-ness that it deserved. Besides that, the new direction under David Hine is awesome. Brian Haberline’s dark pencils are the perfect compliment to the new horror direction that Hine has taken, which seems like a more appropriate style for the title.
Yea, I agree to that, the art looks great, and the stories are really coherent and make sense once they tied up the loose ends from the Armageddon run. But still, Greg Capullo(who did a lot of covers, art, and pages for the first run) still has produced some of the greatest Spawn art imo. Still hope Eddy/Andy(The two kids Spawn saved in the first run, and who showed up in 2 later issues, which there’s an interesting thing with the issue numbers, but that’s probably just me being a nerd). Atleast Eddy should show up, since he’s Redeemer III(Though I don’t know if the Disciple made him obsolete since he’s supposedly the first and strongest soldier heaven produced.)
Still though, it seems that the writers are finally tying up Simmons/Wanda, though it’s not known if she’ll get the axe, the synopsis for that issue says that if She doesn’t get whacked, Spawn will end, along with the “we mean it!” tagline, so things don’t bode well for Wanda.:sad:
i just about the first 2 large tpb off amazon. now i’m just waiting til they arrive. was there going to be a spawn cartoon sumtime this year?

Yeah, he signed a $40 million childrens book contract and Spawn goes on tour through most major cities, he’s a big draw at Barnes & Noble.
