Spark/SparkCE Optical Joystick Sensor for JLF

Hi, which older consoles specifically? If PS1/PS2, they don’t supply enough power. See post #966.

I’m looking to use it on PS2 and a Supaboy Portable SNES. I know there isn’t enough power, my question is there a proven workable solution to this problem?

No one has reported anything, no. The two main ideas flying around were using extra circuitry to increase the voltage (which was tried and did not work), and using an extra cable from a battery pack or other 5v source to power the Spark. I forget whether this was attempted, but again, no reports of success.

Thanks a lot Toodles, my spark arrived flawless and faster than I thought. The movement are incredibily smooth and perfect. A dream come true sir, even better than expected!

Awesome, tell your friends.

Got it last week, installed quickly. Default spring was too loose, and 2 springs is too stiff so I had to stretch another one to get it stiffer but not too stiff. Doesn’t seem to last long. The spark is too sensitive. I’m getting up way too easy so i’ll end up getting spd instead of fireball or srk. Really annoying, might be the spring adjustment though.

Get an LS-55 spring I don’t Spark without it.

Ordered 2 of each spring lizardlick had but he’s taking forever to send them…

if you have two springs… combine them… and snip the tougher one in half… then play with it from there… cut more if you want it a bit looser…

Yep that’s why I linked Focus Attack, don’t what’s up with LL as of late.

Anyone have a pic showing where the VCC on the Qanba 4 stick??? I needed to install a spark for a friend and I don’t even know what the inside look inside. TwT

USB, Red wire. Can’t miss it.

I need two anal retentive, hyper attention to detail joystick snobs!
Flash coming back has of course forced me to step up my game; Im dont like the idea of being equivalent, I want to be better. So, I have two prototypes for the vastly improved SparkCE here, and I need beta testers who can put it through the paces and give me lots of details about anything they dont like. If I haven’t worked with you before, please don’t be offended if I ask for a deposit to cover the part. If I have worked with you before, it won’t be needed, but either way the testers will completely have the option to send it back and not pay a dime for anything or buy it afterwards if they want.

SparkCE features:

  1. ADJUSTABLE SENSITIVITY! There is a potentiometer next to the three pin connector; use a small screw driver to turn the knob and you can make the SparkCE more or less sensitive. The pot has 25 turns, for a VERY exact setting. This is a first that no other stick (with possible exception of Suzo Inductive) has accomplished!
  2. Perfect support on ALL voltages from 2.5v to up to 12v. That means the sensitivity will remain the SAME, no matter if your stick is running on PSX/PS2 voltages or USB voltages. Another SparkCE first!
  3. SparkCE does NOT hold the signal lines high. What this means is that, electronically, the SparkCE behaves EXACTLY like a microswitch board. There are no more compatability problems with BrawlStick pcbs, PS360, or anything that didn’t care for the signal lines to be held high.

If interested, please drop me a PM. Please do not go into this thinking ‘ooh, new toy’. Im doing this because I need feedback on how to make it better, and only by getting a laundry list of the minor details only a stick snob would notice can I do that.
Thanks for reading!

Sadly, I’m not enough of a joystick elite to make it worth volunteering, however, I do wish you great luck on your ventures.

Just a suggestion: Why don’t you give some pro players a SparkCE and see what they think? I’m sure many of them would be willing to help the community(and potentially up their own game).

PMed sir

I am very interested in seeing how this works, the idea of a mircoswitchless stick interests me, but having not used optical sticks before, I wouldn’t be 100% sure of where to start

pm’ed

Awesome news Toodles, I was bummed I couldn’t put a Spark into my Kitty modded Soul Edition to use on older consoles. I also have a second TE I’m getting ready to Kitty, and a PS360 set aside for another project that would benefit from the SparkCE. I’ll probably order like 3 of them as soon as they are available.

I’ll buy the prototype from whomever when testing is done. :wgrin:

Hooray for proper PS2 support. Congrats Toodles!
