SC4 was absolutely garbage just like SC3, if you want to play a decent SC go play the first one or at a push SC2, complaining the game died because of SF fanboys (on a street fighter forum no less) is just retarded
The soul caliber community killed the game.
The SC series has gone through changes like all fighters none of them truly bad games like sayā¦tekken 4.
But when you got a community and leaders in the community bickering like kids on whatās broken, legal and a tier list itās bound to fail.
Sc is a mix of the mk community and smash community. If srk picks up the game and plays itā¦ It would be amazing for the series. But as of right now, itās not looking good. Even if the game is amazing.
Also everyone wants to play sc2 however no one really wants another sc2.
The problem with sc2 to sc3 is it went from fast and easy to play to average speed and difficult to play.
You could be totally average and do decent mid level in sc2. Not in the and 4 you actually had to learn your character, punishes and what other characters could do.
You could play and do well in sc2 if you could step, and GI.
I had played soulcalibur on the dreamcast a lot and found it a great and fun, though easy to learn, 3d fighter.
Sc 1 high selling points were the graphics, both for the arcade and console versions.
It was simply the best designed and animated 3d fighter at that time. Tekken (3?) looked very ugly
I havent played the sequels but i can assume that when other fighters caught on in graphics and animation, sc lost its edge.
Who said the game died because of SF fanboys?
The game isnāt dead. Look at 8wayrun.
It is just a fact that most Street Fighter fans naturally hate every other fighter which isnāt SF (look at the haters, when they play MK on the stream).
SC4 is good, it has itās broken stuff just like every other fighter, but it received a high overall press score and there are still SC tournaments going on. Like Devastation next month.
And SC5 looks very promising. Critical Edge will add a lot of depth imo.
I think this was one of my favorite experiences, and the exhibition mode was awesome too. I liked SC1 more than 2, but they werenāt that different.
Hmmā¦ just found this threadā¦ Honestly, there are many valid reasons why SC4 wasnāt that popular. Iāll go into them, if you want to hear it. There is a lot of misconception about SC4 and itās community; people like to think that the reason why it wasnāt as popular is simply because of unbalanced characters and the āfunā being taken from the game. While for many, that may be true, thats not really the core of the problem.
The core of the problem is basically that in 2008 (when SC4 came out), if you had asked ANYONE about the state of fighting games in general (any fighting game, not just SC4); they probably would have told you that fighting games were dead, and there was no coming back for it. No one was playing fighting games anymore. The lack of community participation is mainly due to this, people were losing interest in fighting games. Mostly, they used āunbalanceā and āfunā as an excuse to hide the simple fact that fighting games just didnāt matter anymore.
Then came Seth Killian. Seth Killian single-handedly revived the fighting game community, and SF4 exploded with it. Unfortunately, even though SF4 revived fighting games, it also created a vacuum. Any and all fighting games that came before it no longer mattered. Much of the community that was still around back then evaporated overnight and jumped ship to SF4.
That being said, if you ask the currently active Soulcalibur community about SC4, they will probably tell you that SC4 is the BEST game in the series. The same way you guys see Third Strike, and consider that the best game in the series, is the same way we see SC4. SC4 ramped up the technical requirement to play, and to a lot of people, that took away the āfunā. Third Strike was the same way, deeply technical, and scared away the major of your āpot monsterā community. SC5 is looking to be our SF4ā¦ a return to form, with a shorter barrier of entry to attract a wider audience.
Yeah, that turned me off to the series more than anything else about IV. Seeing long-time vets that I learned so much from storm away from the scene was discouraging. Hope thereās no more of that once V drops.
This paragraph is so wrong.
By the time I played Soul Calibur 2, I didnāt play fighting games competitively. Still, I can say this for sure, Soul Calibur IV is a great game. Hilde is broken, but having her banned is just enough. High level play is just beautiful. As Neclord said, SF fans hate everything that is not street fighter. I add this: 2d fighter-tards hate everything that does not have combo strings. They hate to block with a button. They just didnāt make it to the 3d era of fighting games. They do not want to get used to new systems. And yes, Soul Calibur does big changes everytime and take some risks. But still, Soul Calibur 4 tournaments are fun and interesting. Just look at the French vs US matches or the Dominican League. I just donāt understand how Tekken is more popular as it has always been a mediocre fighting game compared to soul calibur in every aspect: Character designs, gameplay, graphics, animation, music, backgrounds. I hope we can do fair justice to the soul calibur series in this forum or else I suggest we get in touch with each other at 8wayrun.com .
Iād say Seth Killian played a part in pushing fighting games mainstream.
This is an exciting fighting game. Watch this.
nvm. I see an Apprectice player in there.
Any good Yoda or Vader players?
Yea SC and its competitive value is a good topic to talk about.
IDK ppl who get into the game are just more casual and want to play the game to create good outfits then actually play the game seriously. Not as many serious SC players and I played the crappy SCIV online.
SC4 was a really bad departure from an otherwise decent series.
A lot of salty peepās over Hildeās bullshit ect.
Dunno about Yoda, but Vader had Oofmatic.
Not realllyyyyy. SC4 and SC2 are probably the best in the seriesā¦ although 2 was much more fun imo.
SC3 was the ass one.
Yeah, these days I still find these people using weird outfits and green skin. But sometimes these guys are quite good and their characters have level 150 or something like that. So, they have fought a lot. Casual players that have played a lot are dangerous as rivals. That is true for a game like this because you only need to know how to pull a 50% of the moves you have and the actual mix up and combos can be learn through battle. In games like mvc3 o SSF4 you have to train your combos in the training mode for quite a while to become good. (Something that I consider more bad than good).
Hmmm, if you actually SEE THE VIDEO you will find the best Darth Vader player in the world there, Oofmatic and his battle with Pantocrator is jaw dropping.
I stopped playing Soul Calibur because noone that I knew liked it/cared enough to get good. Iām not really a fan of playing online so the game sort of lost my interest. I moved to SF4 because I knew people that were playing and they wanted to be good at it. Itās still my favorite fighter and after getting a chance to play SCV, Iām greatly looking forward to it; hoping that more people will give it a shot.
I imagine a lot of SCIV players stopped playing because they grew tired of only playing online.
Yea, I watched some matches. Thatās how I saw the Apprentice player. Itās a pretty long video so Iām not gonna watch the whole thing.
If you can tell me the time stamp for the Oofmatic/Pantocrator match, Iād appreciate it.
