I never got into this series on a competitive level but SC1 looks so much more interesting than every subsequent game. So much more movement, much more fluid combat. Seems like every game after this one took a further step towards “you block my move, I block yours” syndrome…why is this? I know ring outs were nerfed…
SC4 is a great game with some issues. (That could easily have been fixed had they made another patch.)
You guys just don’t like the way it plays post-SC3. Doesn’t mean the game is shit. (Console versions of SC3 were shit though.)
SC2 has my favorite ‘combat flow’. I do enjoy SC4 a lot, though. I rather SCV go back to Yomi style, or add more cancels like SC2. Not that I dislike the trap combos, but online Ivy’s are annoying. “I’m gonna 3B seven times in a row. Hoping. Just hoping.” And the lag pretty much encourages that.
Nothing like melting minds with Maxi, though.
Thats just it though. They released at least 2 patches for IV that i can recall tweaking minor things(nightmares combo to back grab), but never really touched on the whole Hilde lol junk. And even disregarding that some characters are just seriously flawed(rock/talim).
Sure the game could be fun if they can get a handle on this, but the progression of the series hasn’t exactly been confidence inspiring in that respect.
Anyone who thinks SCIV is beter than ANY SC game pre SC3 Euro edition (which patched the American version of 3 before Arcade Edition EVEN existed)…
…needs to appear on 16 episodes of Dr. Phil.
Fo realz.
Well Namco hasn’t really given the SC series a proper chance to be competitive in years either.
Hilde BS didn’t really surface until near the end of 1.02. So there wasn’t time for them to patch her anyway since 1.03 was the last patch. Lack of an arcade version didn’t help the competitive scene in asian countries either.
And Hilde is not nearly as bad as people make her out to be. Annoying to fight yes, but she has weaknesses that prevent her from being the de facto top character. You can ask me if you want to know. Suffice to say you have to think and play a bit unorthodox to beat her soundly.
Talim is also not as bad a character as people think. She’s effort, but she has every tool she needs to play a solid game. Look at how Kura almost took SC4 Nats using her.
Rock as he is is probably a bit flawed however. He has to rely too much on yomi to do well.
Nah, I don’t. Is it wrong to not like something that’s inferior? Its also a identify crisis issue. If I wanted to deal with that, than shit, I can have a better time with Tekken.
To this day, I don’t fucking understand why the original dev team was taken off SC1. Its not as if SC1 sold badly at all.
BTW Rock was just fine in SC1. VF style tick throws all day…or risk eating unblockable setups? Good stuff.
Play SC1. Hearing people say I love SC2…SC3, etc but no talk of SC1 in any capacity is like hearing SF4 players say “SF4 is my favorite SF” when these people’s only previous experience was some button mashing on Megadrive Champion Edition for a couple of minutes.
Shit, even Soul Edge is better imo
Why be excited? Soul Calibur has went in the same direction as Mortal Kombat. I mean really if I made a list of everything that makes me sad about Soul Calibur now:
-Console exclusive fanservice
-“Finishing moves” aka Critical Finishers
-No reward for defense
-Took away while landing
-Took away soul charge
-Just Guard Impact
-Too much focus on 1player modes
-Create A Character
-Uninspired cast of characters
-Ruined Talim
-Ruined Taki
-serious tracking and clipping issues
-slower 8-way run
I mean really. I think when I heard the interview where the producer said “when we thought about characters that would fir in the in Soul Calibur universe…DARTH VADER and YODA instantly came to mind.” BULL-FUCKING-SHIT. And instead of just saying “we wanted to merge the worlds and open up SC to a wider base” they give some ol bullshit answer when in actuality they just wanted to whore out the name and make a bunch of SW geeks pick up a copy.
Before that it was the whole ordeal with Link and Todd McFartlne and his shitty ass “necrid” piece of crap in SC2 that looked like something straight out the Spawn comic. We dragged that guy on the old Soul Calibur forums for years.
I just dont see the direction anymore. The series has lost its touch.
And after Soul Calibur 4 and its EPIC flop, they release Broken Destiney which at least intended to fix some things in SC4, only for it to remain on the fucking PSP and was never released to the PS3 or 360. I mean gimme a break.
I’m only going to be slapped in the face once or twice by a company then I’ll just move on. Which is what just about all the calibur players with common sense did. Last I heard the online servers for SC4 were atrocious.
I’m willing to bet you’ll end up buying/playing SCV and loving it
we know that all of you hate SCIV, now STFU! or this thread would be closed, there is no need to post it on every damn thread related to SC, seriously
It’s inferior in your opinion. It’s not a fact. I don’t like the way Tekken plays. Obviously it’s a shit game right?
You’ve been proven to not know what you’re talking about so many times on 8WR and on here it’s stupid. I wouldn’t take much of what you say seriously.
Besides Rock, I’d point out that SCIV made Mina really… lacking. Well, of course you know this, being a recurring presence at her section on 8wr.
I mean, she’s that hard to win against people with a proper brain. She needs better proprieties on her moves and real combos. If Soul Gauge returns, I wouldn’t mind if she keeps her force block either.
Also, I’m the only one wanting a playable Dampierre on consoles? He’s just that awesome :c -
People realize how little CAS takes away from development resources, right? They’re reskinned clones; the dev team isn’t making any big sacrifices to bring that to the game.
There was a time the series had solid competitive gameplay and rich, fulfilling single player modes; now it doesn’t have either, and it’s just making people bicker over which part is more important. In reality, there’s no reason it can’t have both. They’ve just made some bad design choices in both areas. Here’s hoping that SCV gets things back on track, if it actually comes out.
She’s still a really cool character in SC4 despite her flaws though. It’s really just a few stupid things that really keep her back as she is now. A few minor buffs here and there would help too.
I’ve actually dropped her since Shen Yuan picked her up. She’s a character who requires amazing spacing sense, which Shen Yuan has in droves. He’s taken my theories and added his own on top. She’s no joke when played right. But admittedly, it’s doubtful she’ll ever win a tournament. It’s too easy to make a mistake with her.
Salt because I didn’t mention SC1? Doesn’t that gem go without saying?
Yeah dude’s right, if people wanna come and dump on every SC but the first one and dump on people who dare to like anything after SC1 then just close the thread. Some of us enjoyed the entire series, and I personally rather not see anything like the “Post-Super Turbo Era Sucks” mentality in here. I’d hope for better.
fighting a good mina = SEX :lovin:
No homo.
But otherwise people wouldn’t be able to repeatedly state their (Sometimes misinformed/baseless) opinions as fact. THAT WOULD BE A TRAGEDY.
@Farp: You know… I think this series is getting more hate than AH lol. Anyways keep being calm-minded and reasonable mate!
SCIV is easily one of the most misunderstood fighting games of all time.
Frankly I blame the decision to release SC3 on console first. Which resulted in an utter trash game. Even though they later fixed it in AE the damage was done. The negative feelings then carried over to SC4.
Also, the community didn’t help much. Being made up of a lot of whiners. I mean I kinda hate to say it but it’s kinda true.
I been reading people’s comments all weekend and the majority of people either do not understand SC4 or hate it because it’s not SC2. Plus alot of that negativity that’s around the game now is from how bad SC3 went and carried into SC4 which is unfair.
Even with how terrible people say SC3 is, there’s still those who love that game to death and would rather play that than SC2. So many have played Calibur at one point or another and have their favorite version of the game or something to say which is why you see these heated discussions and whining.
Regardless of what’s said, it doesn’t change the fact that Calibur has sold well throughout the entire series. If I could change the past, I would. But I can’t. All I can do is worry about what’s going on now and look to the future. I’m excited to see how things will turn out now that Namco is active with the community again, and I love the attention that Calibur is now getting.
Someone “explain” SCIV since it’s so misunderstood.
