Soul Calibur 5 Official Discussion

I’ll just leave this here:

Spoiler

Seems to show Xianghua’s daughter and a new character with a hat. Also seems like the game is coming in January?

I am pissed. I wanted Lightning from FFXIII-2.
Ezio is boring.

Ezio does fit in with the rest of the cast better than any previous guest characters.

Ehh…while I don’t like guest characters, at least Ezio kinda fits the Soul Calibur “theme”, if you will.

Besides him, we have two new characters: new guy with a hat and Xianghua’s daughter(?)…and, it looks like we got Nightmare. 4 character reveals incoming~

Yes that’s true he fits, but Lightning would fit too imo, it’s still a fantasy game.

The other characters are probably Leixia (Xianghua’s daughter) and Van Helsing (lol).
Some people mentionend, that Nightmare looks kinda female, so it might be Sophitia.

too bad cookie monster didn’t make the cut.
that could have been hype.

But Lightning isn’t from the same time period, let along the same world. Ezio is technically from a century earlier, but’s it’s closer than the events from FFXIII.

Yeah she isn’t from the same time period, but judging from her appearance in FFXIII-2 she would fit imo. And when I look at all the characters in SC, nearly all of them have some fantasy stuff, like Ivy’s weapon for example. And the game also has monsters as playable characters.
So I think Ezio would fit because of the time period, but in terms of appearance, I would definitely prefer Lightning. Fantasy character for a fantasy game.

Of course it’s fantasy. All of it is fantasy. I think d3v’s point though, and I could be completely wrong, is that FF13 is more of futuristic/sword and sorcery mash-up. In Lightning’s world there are flying machines, robots, and all kinds of crazy technology while SC is more or less set in a version of our 17th century (? forget when it is actually set and too tired to double check lol). Yes, there are fantasy elements to SC, like Ivy’s sword and whatnot, but it more or less is set in our world with the technology toned down compared to FF13.

Who is the big yellow guy third row on the right?

Astaroth i think?

Oh, probably. I couldn’t tell because it looks like a giant yellow ball with a head. >.<

Astaroth.

Characters (Spellings will be butchered)
Top row: Patrolkos, Zwei, Xianghua’s daughter, Natsu, Ezio, NEW CHARACTER, Viola (purple orb chick), Pyrrha
2nd row: Siegfried, Hilde, Ivy, Tira, Nightmare
3rd row: Mits, Mazi Voldo, Astaroth
4th row: maybe the created character loader?

i never liked the effect namco used in most of their games’ “endless” stages. seeing that effect just distracts me from the action on screen.

i’d rather they just made such a massive stage (with not much detail beyond the immediate player’s area to keep the frame rate good) that it’d be impossible to reach the edge of without walking for, say, 30 solid minutes.

ok its not very practical but it would be cool

That would probably eat more memory than it’s worth. The way the Tekken team does it is fine (look at Manji Valley in T6). However they way it’s implemented in SC5 needs work.

More like the DLC characters row.

There’s different types of fantasy. I don’t think FFXIII-2 would fit either, just like the star war characters, but I am not a bitch who demands that guests characters have to be of a similar time period like it was written in stone. In short, I don’t mind star wars or lightning as guest characters.

The Soul Series occurs in the late 16th century.

Also, the similarity between SC and AC is that, while both have fantasy elements, both are set in a fictionalized version of our world.
