Soul Calibur 5 Official Discussion

Yeah, that’s how it looks. Still, you can’t be certain that it is a shakable counter hit without testing, because sometimes they have stuns that look the same, but are considered different stuns by the game (this is true because you can sometimes use the same looking stun in the same combo).

Ok… why can’t they just have an auto-mash function in training so that the dummy does it? ;_;

Stuns are harder overall to shake in this game but Some are more obvious and vary from character to character
Ex stuns are of course more difficult and people like astaroth have very hard stuns to shake because of how often you are gonna be able to hit with said attack

Yoshis just frame manji carve fist is the one stun that is unshakable 100%

I couldn’t shake Astaroth’s fully charged 44A in the slightest, but maybe that spin doesn’t count as a stun?

According to the Strategy guide, stuns are either 100% unshakable or 100% shakable. There is no in-between.

It doesn’t even say that you need to mash guard in order to shake out of the stuns, you apparently just have to press G and hold it.

Thanks for the heads up
Still in soul caliber 4 mode

That mode is useless, Elysium was someway less frustrating to deal for me when is used Nightmare the problem with her is the huge damage she does with his QCF attack, my real problem was Siegfriend i could not beat him in 18 minutes lol.

Anyways the offline modes in the game are bad, boring and frustrating for newcomers from other genres.

Does anyone else think that throw tech damage to the person who techs it is some dumb shit? I once lost a round just by teching a throw. I’d prefer if teching doesn’t cause any damage, but if it’s in there it would make more since for the person who was trying to throw to get damaged than the person who was escaping it.

Throws in this series always confused me. I’m just so used to Tekken’s F throws that allow you to step in when you throw; in this game you’re always stationary when you throw. I guess it’s a balance issue considering throws do a ton of damage in this game for some characters and for the ones who don’t they can combo after them for more damage anyway.

This game is a hell of a lot more exhausting than Tekken. Playing this I realize how slow Tekken 6 is.

I played the game at my friends house. Entry for me is going to be tough. I mained Talim in the past games and her not being in his game as really fucked me over. I spend the whole day struggling to find a new main. I haven’t been successful in that regard yet.

That’s a really bad idea, iGDR is better in every single way than 4B+K haha, 4B+K is one of Cervy’s 2 useless moves. the other being 214B+K. They will only work against bad players. A better addiction is aB, it is one of the fastest starting moves in the game and has great range. Best move to punish/stuff, it also does pretty decent damage haha. MIldly punishable on block but the risk/reward is very skewed.

im just gonna say it
xiba and other (natsu)
but xiba especially
does WAY too much damage
yeah i can win and most of my matches against them i have so
but comparing what xiba gets for a simple ass 3 hit string compared to someone like viola is laughable
starting to see alot of him online
it sucks cause they are mostly the same spammers from 4 but in 4 i can put such a ass whooping on them with yoshi i could fuck around the rest of the match
now with a slight nick into counterhit they are still in the game

overall i still think this is a soul calibur game that does marvel type damage its a love hate relationship
though i wouldnt mind if the damage overall was lowered in the future

Actually, I prefer the marvel damage and speed in this iteration. I felt that SCIV was clunky and slow as hell.

iirc Tekken has faster moves frame-wise. Soul Calibur feels faster due to the general fluidity of the game.

XIba is pretty punishable on a lot of things and his horizontals don’t strike me as amazing so sidestepping is always an option.

I agree Natsu does kind of ridiculous damage for all the speed and safety she has, at least her mixup isn’t amazing.

dont mind the speed actually happy for it
but the damage is asinine
bomb to air throw with natsu is retarded
you spend time out poking your opponent
only to get hit by a ex move/3 hit string

that puts them back in the match
kinda weak

belongs in another game but i digress
oh well for now

I’d say that Devil Jin is my new main style, it has strong mix ups as well as speed and combo potential. Plus I like the character I created. I’m running into more rage quitters and sore losers in 2 days worth of play on this game than like a months worth of Street Fighter or some other fighters. I did DJ’s 10 hit chain combo on a guy and he calls me a masher and says I’m bad, continued to talk more shit after he lost. Ya I know I’m bad, that’s old news haha.

you have to be careful about AAK which tracks really well and does a ton of damage on counter hit. Though the third hit is unsafe, the string can be counterhit confirmed. The string itself is still unsafe if you duck the second hit after blocking the first hit.

Viola has damage, people just haven’t gotten good with her bnbs and meter usage yet. The only character with alarming low damage is Raphael, what a trash character.

Yes Natsu’s damage is assinine. That I would agree with. Maybe like what Floe said it’s a bug in the damage scaling.

Man I like Viola but it feels like I’m playing CS1 Rachel with the single move damage output.

Does anyone know any lows she can combo off without needing a counerhit? It seems like the only way to threaten the opponent into blocking low is her throws atm.

I know her combos do decent damage, but things look a little grim if she can only get that off a mid imo.

Yup, been saying it for a while.
