Extreme hardcore players dont care too much about this. (The few of them still left) But yea these fighting games these days should incorporate good story mode and other modes as well.
Tekken 6, MK9, SF X T(looks like it), heck even CvS2 had some decent modes to play and have fun with. People still like this type of stuff and I do as a hardcore player as well. It good because it keeps the casual base more happy when it is positive impact on the game and the future of the series.
I don’t really usually care for it anymore as I just play in tourneys and locals, but I grew up with it in like every game so if it’s there I’ll bite. But with Calibur, a series that prides itself on this and has delivered this sort of thing on every entry, it’s pretty unacceptable. A good chunk of it’s fanbase is because that was what appealed to them. SCIV has a large casual fanbase anyway. It’s prob the most played fg series from people that don’t even play fgs.
Game was a full $60 and we know they skimped big. What’s understood doesn’t have to be said. So my thing now is, that if someone truly thought that they bypassed extras just to deliver more on the gameplay, then it’s just annoying to have to unlock characters when there’s no real urge to play anything else except versus. I know I haven’t gotten anyone except Kilik, and have played on a lot of setups since game dropped that didn’t have anyone. In a room full of guys without characters, stages, music, etc. because no one wanted to endure story mode aka Pat being a dick for 2 hours. Plus, fuck the whole Devil Jin deal. You’re more likely to hit tourneys and endure setups without Setsuka and Omega and instead of one simple on the fly unlock method, you have get unlocks by levels.
I mean, it would’ve been dope if you could get exp in versus mode. But I think it’s only strictly single player modes. I heard I can get random unlocks by beating the computer repeatedly in quick matches, but not if I play the guy sitting next to me? That’s genius.
This is good know, a lot of his stuff really had me baffled on when to attack. I think right now my biggest problem is not knowing when to stop being defensive and go in.
Also in regards to the topic of “Fuck paying for characters already on the disc this is how it should be”:
You will have to pay for Dampierre if you didn’t preorder and he is clearly on the disc
Of the 6 unlockable characters only 3 of them are unique, and then you have Elysium who has a badass CE
One thing that I’ll have to say with the story mode is, the presentation is great. They put in a lot of work with the cutscenes, they were creative with their stills. The voice actors did a pretty decent job voice acting.
But, the story is ASS. The protaganists are ASS. one’s a dick, one’s that insecure, emo as hell girl.
Pretty much confirmed he’s Nightmare, or at the very least one point during development he was originally meant to be Nightmare. Same Japanese VA and same base character model. The Raph we see that’s playable is a Raph after story mode takes place. Sorta like how the playable Xiba is the Xiba prior to story mode.
The stills were pretty lame. Half of them looked like storyboards and it felt like they ran out of time to animate them into full fledged cutscenes.
Mind helping a newbie out pls!
What are good & effective wake up options? Mainly to escape from attacks that hit low. Most of the time I try to row around & tap G to stand up. But is there an effective way to counter attack?
Thanks in advance!
Often you will want to just block, chances are they will try some sort of tech trap and or oki game so you are very much on the defensive. Block something, it will put you at advantage. (should) The only really good option is wake up CE, CE’s are extremely fast in this game, wakeup CE is actually a pretty good option it seems haha.
Went to a tournament today, nothing was unlocked (the unlocking is pretty BS, takes a few hours if you want to unlock stuff, if anyone wants to play one of those characters, what do they do?) but everything seemed to run smoothely. I do think Cervy is really good this game, I did OKish in the tournament (ie. didn’t go 0-2) and pretty well in casuals. Really, really liking this game so far. I hate Voldo and Pyrrah though… where/when do I block/retaliate. arghhh.
Wait wait wait wait wait wait wait. So at what point did he get soul edge and become Graf Dumas? Why is Amy carrying a crystal ball? nothing makes sense anymore!!!
head splode I do acknowledge that you said he was meant to be at some point in development. But that is still something I’m not grasping
I’ve been reading all of the complaints that people have with the lack of single player modes. I wish there was more single player content so that all SC fans can enjoy the game, but from my perspective, the gameplay and online are more important, so it’s good to see that’s solid.
Traditionally the scenes for competitive SC are strong in certain areas. I hope more people come out of the house and compete. Right now it’s still early and people barely had the game for a week and are still learning before they are comfortable with competing.
But so far this game has been very popular, at least from the spectator standpoint. Sp00ky had 3000 people watching yesterday, Level Up had 1700 watching. Even before the game was released, the numbers to watch people play in casuals were better than the tournaments for other games.
As for SC4, in the beginning there were alot of people who were into the game and played competitively until SF4 came out. And this was all before the era of streaming and the huge tournaments that we see today. I expect SCV to do alot better with the added exposure it’s getting and with some notable players jumping into the game and having fun with it. I’m interested in seeing how things turn out in a few months from now.
SC3 had alot of single player content that alot of casual fans enjoyed. Unfortunately it also had alot of bugs which ruined the game competitively.
As for unlocking characters, you can unlock everything in the game if you play it long enough, but unlocking characters is really a bitch in this game. I had the pleasure of going through unlocking the characters on a few consoles which takes an hour and change if you’re good at the game and speed through it. I don’t know why people are running tournaments without unlocking the characters prior to the tournament, or at least borrow some consoles from people who did.
