Wow guys, don’t be so harsh on South America. I mean, they just afforded to get their setup last week. They don’t even have another TE stick for the Sagat player. You have to give them credit.
So much Sagat/Balrog…I just stopped watching once I realized it wasn’t godlike, which was like 20 seconds in.
Hey man, kudos to you guys for actually having the tournament. Sorry, if I seemed harsh in my post but build on it at the least. =P
How far did everybody have to travel to get the tournament? At the very least, it looked as though you had a very healthy player base that was genuinely interested in SF4. With that much competition, you could hold monthly tournaments or something and evolve your game =D
The PC version arrived on Brazilian stores on July 30th, and it’s selling much better than the console versions. I’d say SF4 PC is the most successful game in the series since SFII’CE for the Sega Genesis in Brazil. More people are playing this than ever before.
Competition is still pretty bad, but I’m sure our players will catch up sooner or later.
haha, are you kiding me ?
A Wii costs about R$1,200,00, that’s about 8 times more expensive than in the US.
they are some of the best players, not the best players. I live in a city 3000km far from Sao Paulo, and just got the game 1 month ago, then i decided id not attend the event.
But talking about skill level, yes we’re far behind USA, and it prolly wont change any soon, coz Brazil is a huge country and SF4s netcode sucks. Having that in mind and knowing that Brazil have not an offline scene (few peoples playing the game, a ps3/x360 is too expensive here, a basic worker have to work like 4-5 months to get the money to buy one), were pretty fucked up.
About all those Sagats and Rogs around, well what can i say, most of the guys around are cheap abusers, thats my opinion. But it isnt that different on USA or Japan, tons of guys rushing straight to the broken chars. Im playing Ryu btw.
I think SF4’s netcode is good enough to allow people from the biggest cities to play against themselves without any noticeable lag, in the PC version at least.
Hell, I even managed to play against some guys from Europe with very little lag.
so we have different perceptions of lag. Its playable, casually talking, but not enough to train on high level. The timming for Ryus combos changes EVERY TIME i play a new opponent. I have to give up and just keep doing HP xx tatsu every time.
i think were talking about different games then, the one im talking about have a netcode with imput delay, that changes every match depending on the current latency.
90% of the people posting in this thread need to chill the fuck out. The Sagat player who won is pretty good. The Balrog player, I’m not even sure is a Balrog player. He looks like a decent Zangief player who picked Rog in the finals because the Sagat vs. Gief match is so tough. So, he has been playing all day, he’s in the finals of probably the largest tournament of his life, and he’s playing a character who isn’t is main. You guys are surprised he made execution mistakes and did some dumb things? He played bad at Rog. No denying that. But, my point is that nearly everyone who posts in this thread, myself included, would choke and screw it up too.
These aren’t matches from last weekend. Wasn’t Evo South a couple of months ago? The level of play looks about where the East Coast was in March. Hell, if you guys think you are good enough, make the trip next summer and collect your free money.
Some people on this site are extremely harsh. This guy even got negged into red previously before somebody repped him back up to green. C’mon now, that’s not on.
The prices you listed for the Xbox 360 and the PS3 are what a PS2 or a Xbox 1 would cost in some cities, lol.
The amount of input delay changes depending on the ping, but the timing for everything remains the same.
Ask any decent Gen player, it’s pretty much like hdtv lag.
Also it’s hard for top players from other country’s to make it out.Honestly, I think if Geom Modinside made it with his boy capzone it would’ve been free money for them. Also it would have been nice if mexico’s best made it out also. Either way a lot can change we have only had the game for six months in most parts of the US and thanks to youtube and srk evo proved one thing anyone in the US can come out and play at a high level. They had a guy from PR in top 8.Interesting where Brazil will be in the same time.
Regardless of the level of play, I thought the finals were somewhat exciting. It pretty much came down to the wire with the Zangief guy putting in a decent show and it ended with a double K.O. Good stuff.
Hello! Im the guy who played the crappy Rog at the finals. Binop is a pretty solid Sagat, and he knows how to zone out my Zangief (my main) perfectly. It’s the hardest matchup for me (and for all Zangiefs, im pretty sure), thats why I went for Balrog. Besides, the semi-final was damn hard against another Sagat (with a comeback I didn’t think i would be able to do), so I tried something different on the finals.
semi-final: (I start playing with Rog but eventually change to Gief after the loss).
About the mistakes, yeah, we did a lot. It’s a championship, we are not used to it (it was my first) and our hands were shaking badly. I didn’t even punish with EX banishing flat after a jumping attack trading with lariat because i was simply too nervous to realize. We tend to play the most safe way when nervous, thats why we evade to take some risks (like the grab on a whiffed TU instead of going for a combo). Its the kind of thing we watch on videos and say “oh, come on! i would do better than that” but its not like that, when our hands are shaking and there’s a lot going on your head, you do things in a different way. That tends to get better as you start to get used to that scenario, but its still hard.
But yeah, it was ugly with Rog. Came as a lesson tho, even against Sagat I should stick with Gief. I got pretty much raped with Rog, but as Gief the match started to become way more interesting. Or train way harder with a different character to face that matchup. Congrats to Binop!
Thanks for watching and commenting (even the bad comments, really). I hope one day I can have the opportunity to play with good players outside Brazil!
