Well, I’m bored and wired so I’m going to write up a bio anyway and be done with him.
Name: Grad
Height: 5’10’'
Weight: 205 lbps.
Race: Caucasian
Hair: Blond (Natural Brown)
Eyes: Blue
Age: 22
D.O.B: June 1st, 1986
Bio:
Grad; the errant child of the stars.
Bright and witty, Grad shines like a star when he smiles. Grad seems open and easy going at surface level, with a generally optimistic and extroverted personality. Secretly, Grad lives a dual life. In school he tends to be the life of the party, and thus he gains lots of friends and general popularity. Because of this, Grad only allows himself to play the role of a good-guy while at school. But on the inside, Grad is wildly impulsive and recklessly whimsical, his mind filled with an unlamenting turbulence of emotion. He constantly bickers or argues with himself internally, his mind battling with itself to no end. Grad often finds himself at random backstreets in inner-city areas near clubs or bars, where he looks for fun, trouble, or basically anything that will allow him to break away from feeling “stuck” in a normal life.
The numbers are in the order that I sketched them. Sadly, I don’t really like any of them, hahaha. I would probably use #1 for a character though… maybe… I dunno. And #6 was supposed to be Grad but it didn’t come out quite right.
Sorry for the lack of color, getting lazy. The girl on the left should have pink and black hair, with a light pink shirt. I was going to use them to start a sprite set and then go from there (portraits/effects/bios). I just really haven’t been in the mood to animate lately. But those are two of the female characters I had in mind.
I did the resized Jojo’s sprites for the hi-res sprite thread, and then decided to turn it into a cd sleeve for fun, but that meant I had to redraw and recolor everything so it took ages. So the Jojo’s thing is just resized, redrawn, and recolored/shaded sprites and art from the game, nothing special.
is how I was coloring a lot of stuff after I got my tablet. But you mean with layers and blending it on top of a photo right? I only tried that once and I didn’t like how it looked so I don’t do it. Or do you mean using a photo reference?
If you look at my blog you can see the ones where I paint a gray light-map first and ones where I don’t.
No offense man but you don’t get faces that accurate at your skill level. You must have traced right over the photo. Then that style of painting is really not good. It’s essentially using black to make shadows. Everything looks washed out and crappy.
I’m not saying these things to put you down. It’s just that these will not teach you anything, and it will not make you a better artist. Learn the anatomy, read books (Drawing on the right side of the brain, by Betty Edwards) and practice practice practice.
Show what you’re working on. Draw every day…with a pencil and paper. Honestly the tablet may be above your head for right now.
Use this site http://www.posemaniacs.com/pose/thirtysecond.html and fill up a whole sketchbook with these 30 second drawings. Every day take 10 min and do 20 of the 30 second drawings, then do some longer ones. You’re art will improve drastically.
No offense right back at you, but based on your response I don’t feel like you did. Hmmm… Oh well.
Just FYI. I’m not a student nor am I trying to be a professional. I’m just a casual hobbyist and learning as I go. So, I’ll just say thanks for the advice, I really appreciate anything regardless of how it’s delivered, and I’ll leave it at that.
