Looks like they won’t allow button mapping at all, even if you use a pad.
This is also apparently the case for EVO, and I’m curious - what are you pad-users planning to do about it? Gonna switch to using a stick? I think many of the stick-users will agree that FRCs and such are actually much easier on sticks, but I’m sure tournament officials aren’t willing to just take our word for it. shrug
No macro buttons allowed. This means you cannot assign special commands, throws, soul charge, roman cancel, burst, etc… to a 1 button input. However you are allowed to map the buttons to your liking, for example assign Left Kick to a pad shoulder button.
Bring your own controller (either pad or stick can be used).
If you pause the game at any time during a fight you will forfeit the round. "
The AZ tourney, in hopes to help gear everyone up for evo, are complying with evo rules. This is so we have an even playing field. if this is something that you feel you will need time to practice on… i would suggest showing up early and getting in some casual play.
I also agree on the no one button RC stuff. I mean that completly kills the point of having execution. It’s like having a dash button with xvssf. All of a sudden, because of one button, people can do bad ass shit they hardly could do before, like dash infs with character like chun, storm, rogue, etc.
I mean, people practice execution for a reason, so say when it comes to tournaments, they don’t mess up on something like pressing three buttons at the same time.
One more suggestion to help the people running the tourneys
BRING SOMETHING (Piece of paper) THAT HAS YOUR BUTTONS MAPPED OUT. Like
up
left right Circ Tri L1
down Square X L2
Everyone’s stick is mapped differently, therefore a lot of configuration is necessary. For games like 3s, pressing the button will not change the mappings, you gotta move left and right for each button, unlike GGXX. So if you do this, it will be much easier, so please do so.
hmm, I’m gonna have to disagree with this… (not that I’m biased or anything since I currently use a pad predominantly… hehe =) at least from my own experience using a stick, I have found it to actually be much MUCH easier to nail my FRCs, probably because of the better response time of arcade quality buttons. I mean how many #R players feel they miss their FRCs most of the time because they don’t hit all 3 buttons? I’m just guessing, but I would say most #R players would say when you practice your execution, you’re practicing FRC timing, not hitting the buttons… at least for this particular game, I don’t think having FRC mapped gives the sort of advantage you’re talking about, i.e. suddenly allowing a player of lesser skill to do amazing things… I dunno, just my .02c, and I’m not asking for any changes to be made to the rules or anything since I plan on buying a quality stick and getting used to it before Evo anyway, but for everyone else who’s gonna stick with a pad, this rule will really suck…
well hitting three buttons on GGXX is WAYYYY easier than on a game like xvssf. I’m just comparing the two, because on xvssf, hitting all three buttons isn’t that easy. I can guarentee say 30 reps of rogue’s dash inf with 1 button, but with 3 buttons i can do maybe 10 on a good day. It’s different, and to make everything fair, have everyone play in a similar way. Not everyone has resources, like to play with a stick. But having to press three buttons regardless of what controller is fair.
true, if you’re gonna make a rule, you might as well make sure it’s the same for everyone regardless of game/controller…
as for 3 button FRCing on a pad, there’s no way I’m gonna try and learn that shit, I can’t believe you can do that Jo! do you have like an extra finger or something? actually I heard Kuro has some crazy double jointed action going on with that or something… haha you gotta show me that next time man =D
also, I was gonna post this in the hardware section, but I guess this would be a good place as well… I’ve basically decided that a good Japanese stick is the way to go for me, and I finally managed to narrow it down to the Hori Real Arcade Pro, or possibly a good custom stick. I was wondering if anyone out there had purchased a stick from that Dreaded Fist guy, as his look really really nice, but after everything’s added up it gets pretty pricey. Ultimately, I would love to have one of his custom built ones, but if I just bought some Sanwa buttons and slapped em in the HRAP, it seems like I would have basically the same set up as a DF stick for much less… Any input from anyone on this stuff would be greatly appreciated, especially if anyone knows any websites where I could get a HRAP for a reasonable price… Thanks a lot guys…
**Wow…did not know the macro button mapping thing was a big problem…sorry guys…
I was just trying to keep it “tournament official” and such… I, personally, have no real objection to scratching the rule for GGX…(that is not an official change yet…) but you guys are going to have the same hell at EVO…(do other console tournaments not have this constraint?)
eh
By the by…are there any other games that would normally employ macros/mapping?
This is all beyond the point. No one here is trying to get The Temple Arcade or EVO to change their rules. I was just making light of the problem that a lot of SoCal players might face if they want to compete in certain tournaments.
**Cool, cool…I am just trying to be accomodating…this is for the players after all…no fun if you do not feel cut off at the knees before you even play.
im sorry, but button mapping more than one attack to a single button (ie, 3buttons to an L botton to RC) has ALWAYS been considered a form of cheating.
having these shortcut buttons eliminate a lot of human error. do you realize that many matches that are won or lost are because of human error on execution? thats an extremely big factor in fighting games that you are toying with. i dont care if its hard to rc on a pad, but whose fault is it that decided to play the game on a peice of hardware that the game wasnt designed for? its garbage, plain and simple. just imagine if a game like mvc2 had a shortcut for pp dashing lol! magneto and storm wuold rush even harder since the player will never screw up a dash, creating less and less holes for the defender to get out of, cuz of a silly shortcut button that allows the play to dash without fail. its silly to have all that bs.
stick users dont users dont use shortcuts, no reason why pad users should be able to, thats the bottom line. srk and every respected tourney and tourney organizer knows that rc is done easier on a stick but thats the player’s fault for using an inferior control setup(control pad). We all play by the same rules, no matter what stick or pad is used. that is something you are gonna have to get used to in the future regarding imprtant tourneys, so i would start getting used to it.
look, we all agree to abide by the rules, however I still maintain that 1 button FRCing is not the big deal you seem to think. you yourself just admitted that using a stick is easier anyway, so I dunno why you sound so offended about all this… this isn’t marvel, and it isn’t xvsf… I dunno if you play GG, but as I already said, imo the execution is in the timing, not the button press… however, I understand your argument, and like render said none of this matters anyway since we’re all gonna play by the rules, so whatever… peace
Woah, am I glad I switched to stick…even though because of my freakishly large thumbs playing on pad is a little easier, I think most players would get discouraged at trying to do FRCs on the pad anyway. I had my RC mapped for an entire year, and the moment I got off of it, it felt better. Using a stick, I think is much wiser, just because of the added ability to rip someone in the arcade as well. Ehh…but what do I know? I’m Mr. Dead Last. :encore:
Guys… that DVR thing just gave me a great idea! Too bad I can’t think of it. Actually… yes… YES! I CAN THINK OF IT! Picture this… recording GG matches on the fly… DVD quality… So Cal tournies… OH SNAP! I’m going to find out how much these cost!
Edit: Nevermind, a lot of this stuff seems needlessly complicated. I mean, I just want a DVR that acts exactly like a VCR, but uses DVD’s instead of casettes. Is that so wrong?! IS IT?!
