post from another thread
Sorry to make a new thread on this, but the sticky is closed. (Feel free to merge this in if it’s appropriate.) This isn’t anything earthshattering, and I’m sure other people have already heard similar things from their local outlets, but here’s what I was told, and I think this might be worth noting for people worried about playing on 360 pads.
I went down to the Gamestop closest to me (1st round participant) earlier this morning and asked the manager for some clarification on registration and the controllers.
On the registration front, he told me that (at least in the Orlando area) it will probably start around Friday (when they get their official packets and crap from on high) and it will be in-store signup (duh). Feel free to chime in on what you’ve heard in your area/if you’ve heard anything more.
On the subject of the 360 controllers (which I brought up gently), the manager of this particular Gamestop (I’m SURE he wasn’t speaking of general store policy) said that they weren’t going to put out sticks or anything from the back for play, but hinted at a kinda-sorta soft BYOC thing where (and I paraphrase) if customers were willing to put up some of their own sticks for participants to play on, they might well play on those instead of 360 controllers.
So at least at this guy’s Gamestop, if you or somebody else who signed up has got, like, cheapo Hori sticks you’re willing to whore out to the general public, you might well spare yourself from having to FADC/Thunder Knuckle feint/whatever on a 360 pad. Again, this is just what this PARTICULAR manager told me, so if you guys have similar ambitions, I would recommend dropping by whichever store(s) you plan on playing at and broaching the subject POLITELY. Unless the manager is a douchebag, I’d wager you could probably get other stores to play ball on this, particularly if you indicate that you might have sticks to put up.
And just in case there was any ambiguity, no, I don’t work for Gamestop or anything and I can’t tell you more than what I just did. I make no promises on anything – just relating something I found illuminating.
This sounds a little positive. I will politely ask the manager of whatever store if we could use the sticks.

I considered going to one in Eagle Rock, but that’s a kind of ghetto place and they probably still get raging pissed at ticks and turtles. Plus that mall smells like fried fish.

I just got back from the gamestop in Thousand Oaks and asked them about this tournament. They didn’t know if they were going to be hosting a tournament(they’re on the list). I would recommend calling the gamestop you plan on attending the tournament at and ask them if they know anything about it.
