Holding down the assist button for a certain length of time does a naked tag now.

Isn’t tagging like that awkward if you just want to call assists and not tag?

its easy to call assists, the awkward part is the tag. Marvel 2 players really really htae the delay.

The tagging in this game is retarded, as was TvCs way. Can someone explain to me what you think Nittsuma’s reasoning behind changing it from MvC?

Because there’s no sensible way to do MvC-style tagging with the MvC3 controls without conflicting with various other commands?

They could just do LP and S…

:atk:+:s: is a special for quite a few characters though (ie; Spidey’s Web Zipline).

What about :s: + :a1: or :s: + :a1:? Why not use those, unless I’m missing something?

Then you wouldn’t be able to call an assist while using and S-button attack (remember, there ARE normals associated with the S button in the air outside of a combo). I guess you could remove that ability, but I have a feeling people would complain about that too.

Drill claw/lightning attack/ web zip ect

This has been discussed to DEATH.

Well losing the ability to hit S and assist at the exact same time isn’t probably a big deal compared to losing instant tag.

Yeah, but you’re doing it in the air, which wouldn’t allow you to perform a standing tag out anyway. Plus, you can’t cancel a magic series into a naked tag, correct? I just feel like this option may have been overlooked.

Honestly though, I’m just providing suggestions. I have a terrible habit of tagging in unsafely in MvC2, and it really isn’t that big of a deal if I have to wait a bit for the tag in to work. Plus, the 1st page says that this only applies to simple mode, right? I haven’t actually played any of the builds at all, so my knowledge of the controls is fairly basic.

No, this is just how you tag in all modes.

Button rolling, or whatever the term is. One immediately after the other in a short time frame. It’s all a moot discussion though, we’re stuck with the slow tag.

I’m writing somewhat of a beginner’s guide to MvC3 for my friends who aren’t longtime fighting gamers, who are making the transition from SSFIV to MvC3. I’m trying to use terms and ideas they are used to in SSFIV and convert them into MvC3 terms. Anyways, I need some input on something:
I’m describing the types of characters and playstyles in versus games and I want to know if you guys think I’m leaving something out, or if you know any other names used for the playstyles I mention:
Rushdown
Keepaway
Multipurpose (have some tools to do both RD and KA but aren’t as skilled at it as a char designed solely for RD or KA)
Tanks (Lots of Health, Big Damage, But also slow and typically short ranged, Ex: Hulk. Are there other terms for tanks?)
Heavy Hitters (Nickname I give to chars who are good at coming in at times like DHCs and providing a hard hitting Hyper to finish off a character or to try to chip down a character. Ex: Iron Man Proton Cannon. Or for someone who does above average damage but isn’t necessary a tank, a la Wesker. Any other terms you can think of?)

If your friends come from SFIV it’s better to say zoning character instead of keepaway.

You can also substitute tank with grappler, I know it’s not the same but it can be easier to understand for a SFIV player.

Something I’ve been curious about forever; What’s the purpose of using snapback against a character when it’s the last character your opponent has left? I see people do it every now and then, but it looks like the only effect is has is pushing the character to the other side of the screen. Is it a spacing thing?

would like to know this myself

Sometimes people just do it to be stylish or something just to be an asshole. But some people actually do just snap-back people to the corner and then just OTG them into another combo and rinse and repeat. Obviously this wouldn’t work if there was another character alive since it would just switch them out. Snapback on a lonesome character is a free OTG combo.

I don’t know if you guys know this but, you gain a little bit of meter if you do an advancing guard.

dry tagging is a moot concept to me anyway. just launch, aerial exchange, and voila. Not to mention it builds meter AND saves red life. win/win.
