Hello.
Just a thought:
I’m an Akuma player and I’ve been fooling around with Rog.
Can you use his ultra2 to punish focus attacks?
It’s quite easy with Akuma, because you can cancel any normal into his ultra1.
I don’t know if you can cancel into ultra2, but can you use a fairly quick recovering normal to buffer the 720 and catch someone releasing their focus attack?
I’m fairly scrubby, so I have no idea how viable/possible this might be.
Just a thought.
I’d also say dash forward into 720 if you see the opponent FA, but I don’t know how fast rog’s dash is. They’d probably react in time to realease their focus, eh?
Otherwise dash forward grab would break focus attacks all day…

the problem with U2 is that it has 3 major things that make it bad.
- Not zero frame startup
- Not guaranteed to stun opponents (not even seth)
- horribly short range
Now imagine if just one of those 3 things were fixed how much better it would be. I’ll give you examples.
If it had 0 frame start-up, it would be very dangerous to let rog get close to you whether it’s by ticks, jumps, TAPs etc cuz if you try to block for longer than you should you eat the ultra.
If it was guaranteed stun, even if it was 1 frame and no range, at least you get a guaranteed damage reward for being able to land something thats so hard to land. they’d eat a full combo every time mixed in with resets it could do really big damage.
If it had good range like jab spd range or slightly less way more moves that are -1 on block would be punishable. right now fierce galactic tornado is still too far to punish midscreen.
i really hope capcom sees that no serious rog players are using u2 for the reasons i mentioned and patch it to improve it
i like how the ultra looks, but i feel that in many cases ultra one is better. getting an ultra of a headbutt is, for me, to sweet of a deeal
So I just got outa training mode and found something mildly interesting; and while this find may not be astounding, it certainly helped me in a few matches I’ve played.
Basically I do the standard meaty jump in or wakeup meaty cr. jab, and buffer in the 720 a little slower so that it comes out after the blockstun frames are finished (or hitstun if they manage to not press back). But I hit PPP+LK. What I find is that it selects throw if I mess up the 720. I’m not the best at 720ing as I haven’t mained a character that required it (360 is no problem, another 3/4 spin isn’t too hard though and I’m at 70% success rate right now).
This not only helps for covering your ass if you mess up a 720 buffer from simply one cr. jab, which is arguably hard (but with the input leniency it ain’t bad). It also doesn’t appear to your opponent that you’re doing anything weird or trying to bait his button-press or crouch tech to catch them with your ultra. Either of those options lose to the ultra…
Also, can he jump? (4 frame startup for dirty bull vs. 4 frame jump-startup, 5th frame is when they’re airborne I believe?) Do they have to reversal SRK if they’re a shoto, what if they’re another character w/out an available invincibility reversal? This is probably a scrub question, but I wanna know.
So basically this OS just covers your ass if you mess up the 720, by looking like you just cr. jab tick threw them (typical boxer mixup). Next time, they try to tech your throw or stick out that cr. short - but you don’t miss your ultra and they probably get dizzy or close (you knocked them down somehow, giving them some stun already). So it’s just jab or any normal meaty buffered into PPP+LK. Does this seem right to any vets? Is this basic gief play?
hello guys!
I’m an Italian Rog user and i’m really searching a way to place a safe dirty bull.
I spent a lot of time in traing mode to find a good combination… before i was pretty sure that after a FADC the Dirty bull can land… but if you go in training mode, select ryu as rival and register a shoryuken (EX) reversal ( a lot in sequence ).
when i saw that EVEN after FADC (combo DASH straight FADC dirty bull ) an EX shoryu can break the dirty bull i was very disappointed… it seems that this ultra is really just a punish ultra that you can land ONLY if your rival does an error ( galactic tornado from rufus )… I really didn’t find a safe setup for this ultra… it’s so difficult to land it and you are not rewarded well if you are successfull… (ok FA lv3 is safe…)
anyway i discovered that buffer the 720° in taunt is really good because you can cancel taunt into dirty bull!!! but anyway it’s good just for punish ( spammed shoryu is easily killed by dirty bull).
are you guys still working on this weird ultra or simply ignoring it and still using violent buffalo?
thanks a lot

I actually like this Ultra better, cause it looks better!
It’s an eye candy and that’s important too to me
I use it against crouching oponents in the corner, they will expect my fist, and the get my head

Couldn’t this ultra be used after zangief’s ultra? Sure I saw it work several times.
For example:
It doesn’t work, probably the input of dirty bull was done before zangief’s ultra…

Is really dirty bull useless?
A blocked close cr. mp puts you at max distance for dirty bull.
ive also tried turn around punches and things like that or normals FADC’ed forward into ultra. but its hard to do 720 in that timeframe while FADCing forward.
dun
Dirty bull works really nice after a whiffed rush upper (on a crouching opponent). they can grab it as its coming to you, don’t do EX. But if whiffed you can buffer in a 720 pretty easy and punish their attempted counter attack. FADC’d specials might make it easier to buffer in a 720. You can do it pretty nicely off a jump in. Jump in jab is a pretty immediate 720, but a well delayed U2 after a jump-in fierce may make it difficult for the opponent to jump out (like honda jump in hk tick oicho or Ryu jump in HK to tick throw).
…still sucks though.
You have to pray that they attempted a punish. If they didn’t, they can jump DB on reaction and that’s your ass. And even if you do hit it, you’ll only ever hit it on that guy once. the only guaranteed U2 setups are punishes, and even as a punish it is bunk ass garbage.
I’ve worked on countless set ups for this Ultra and even though I love the way it looks I still can’t find a reason to use it. It is a handicap at best. Blocked TAP, Whiffed RU, jump in, Bread and butter FA -> Ultra 2. It all sounds good on paper but you can still just hold up and jump out of it no matter what. Its about time to just forget it even exists.
Hey, as a honda main, i’ve been learning balrog as my 2ndary and trying to get to grips with U2. I mainly use it in mirror matches as a slight mix up to other rog players.
Honda’s U2 works similar to rog’s except honda has less range and even less opportunities to use it. Typically, i use HHS FADC to U2.
I’ve been trying to use the same logic for rog’s dash straight FADC into U2 which works in training but difficult to pull off because rog’s dash is faster and pressing the FA in time with the block takes practice. has anyone tried to pull this off?
the other problem i’m having comboing dash straight FADC into U2. e.g jumping RH c.jab, c,jab, c.short, dash straight FADC U2. But this doesn’t seem to come out at all. infact, i can’t combo this at all for some reason.
j.RH c.jab, c,jab, c.short, dash straight FADC U2
You can’t combo into a grab.
Also, Honda’s U2 is an instant grab - if they’re not jumping or backdashing before it’s starting up, they’re eating it.
Balrog’s is slightly slower, and can be jumped out of, so it relies on a button being clicked.
Dash Straight FADC U2 is a mix up, not a combo.
Characters who can combo into crumple stun can combo into grabs. OH xx lvl2 FA combos, but might whiff on some crouching characters

OH xx lvl2 FA …U2
Absurd.
Comparing the potential damage/stun off of a DSB combo with each ultra we see why the above is a horrible idea in terms of efficiency.
For 3 Stocks And Max U2 You Get:
EX DSB (1.0_100/200), FA2 (0.8_96/120), U2 (0.6_180/420) = 376/740
For 4 Stocks And Max U2 + Dizzy You Get:
", Jump In RH (0.5_55/0), Close RH (0.4_40/0), Low Strong (0.3_21/0), EX Upper (0.2_24/0), Low Jab (0.1_2/0), Low Strong (0.1_7/0), Fierce HB (0.1_14/0) = 539/0
VERSUS
For 1 Stock And Max U1 You Get:
EX DSB (1.0_100/200), Low Strong (1.0_70/100), Fierce HB (0.8_112/160), U1 PKK (0.6_191/0) = 473/460
So, we can conclude that comboing into U2 is completely, totally, and utterly insane if you want to be efficient.
HOWEVER, I’m sick to death of the scalers in this game and have decided to be totally inefficient just for the sake of combos. In fact, just a few nights ago I was doing full four stock ex upper loops into u1. Long combos are cooler and more satisfying than short ones, efficiency be damned.
If we can be fancy, why shouldn’t we? Rog can be classy too, damn it!
The Dirty Butt is a terrible ultra. I’ve tried so hard to make it work and I haven’t gotten anything from it. Ultra 1 is just TOO good to pass up. And with being able to dash ultra whenever I want now its even more valuable.

Dirty Bull is not a terrible ultra you just have to know how to use it and apply it well. The best thing about this ultra is that you get high stun. If you land it and your opponent knows anything about the stun system he will be avoiding to get hit again so you can basically jab jab and go for throws or any kind of mind games you like.
The way I use this ultra is by knocking my opponent down and then going for safe jumps. I’ll condition my opponent once or twice that I am jumping and and going for throw attempts. When I feel my opponent is going to go for a reversal tech I will throw out ultra and catch them while they are whiffing grab.
This ultra is to be used when you bait your opponent to either press a button or whif a grab and thats pretty much the only usage of it. Like somebody said earlier if you do things that you 100% know you can be punished after wards and then throw out ultra when you know they will press a button; that kind of trick may work but I don’t think it’s worth it in competitive play.
I think folks here think they are entitled to land this every match at least once. Nah Uh!!!
Look I use Gief and if I land a U1 once every 5 matches that was a good day. Most pro Giefs maybe land one once every 3 matches. It’s a mind mixup ultra. If you want combo ability, go u1 simple. Abel same thing, u1 combo, u2 mixup/punish. Rose u1 mixup/punish, u2 comboable. Rufus u1 comboable, u2 well strait punish/shenanigans.
Rogs u2 range is ass but so are the grapplers ultras (minus hawk) unless you have an outstretched limb extending your hitbox.
On characters without a fireball/dp and whose moveset leaves them point blank and at least -1, its a good option. And its a good way to make turtle-ly mofo’s jump more.
