So why isn't Melee considered a fighting game exactly?

Lolz.

This guy…

Spent from my Ocho, using Fapatalk.

You are probably right actually. Still everything is still out on that one if only for a couple of months.

hell yeah the smash communitty is more immature, our game is like 10 years old. melee is still a much harder game than UMVC3, that kof game. However I think its just as difficult as street fighter

Question ; does anybody consider Guilty Gear Isuka a Fighting game?

and i’d like to hear a very good explanation as to why you believe any smash bros. title is a fighting game. and dont say some ren and stimpy shit like “your’e able to fight 1 on 1”

Can someone please provide a source to a legitimate current Brawl tier list? I’m just curious to know how much the game has developed throughout the years. Surely MK and Snake 7-3 and 8-2 matchups have become 6-4 and 7-3 and the mainstream players have found ways to counter them or even drop them some tiers.

Yeah because the posts in this thread are SO MATURE. Not saying yours, but some others are pretty funny. The guy who said it isnt in people’s interests therefore it is not seen as a fighting game hit the nail on the head. If it is not a 2D fighter, “Ohhh its not a real fighting game”. If it isnt made by capcom “Ohhh it isnt true fighting game”. Ive seen this argument so many times, and for those of you saying it is just a party game:

You really think anyone and their mother can play this game competitively? I treat Tekken as a party game too, that doesn’t mean it cant be played competitively. Sure these combos arent 50 hits, but you really think they take no skill to pull off? It is a fighting game, just like SF, MvC, MK, BB, AH etc. etc.

It is a fighting game, just a bad one. It really says something about your game when you have to rip the heart and soul out of the game to try and make it “competitive”.

Pokemon is played competitively…but it’s not a fighting game.

I don’t see Smash as a fighting game…like SF, MvC, MK, BB, AH, etc.

Sadly this is exactly like SFxT.

I dont play SSBM competitively, so I dont know what exactly you are referring to. Point is, it is a fighting game just like SF, MvC etc. Whether it is bad or not is entirely opinion. Besides, if they do rip their hearts and souls out for the game, that shows that they are a dedicated fighting game community that should probably be praised, not mocked.

Can anyone provide a DETAILED explanation on why it is NOT a fighting game? Instead of just stating it, maybe backing it up with some facts or something?

No.

(And G2:O isn’t a fg too)

From the facebook of a good friend of mine… Thought it sounded relavent.

>Random FGC losers complain about Smashers banning items.
>Same Randoms then complain about not being able to turn gems off.
>Randoms are now screaming to TOs about keeping them off, since we have the option.

Also, how is GG:I not a fighting game? Its a bad, poorly designed one, but still you cant just disclaim it as a fighter because of that.

Health bars and items are probably where it started.

The mechanics are definitely different, but the tactics play out in a really similar way. Guess it depends on how you define it, but not really anything to be gained by having the discussion.

Melee is a fighting game. A revolutionary fighting game at that. Big sales, big tournaments for the game. Plenty of hardcore tech for the hardcore player. Customizeable too, you could turn items off for competitive play, or turn items on for casual play if your girlfriend or little sister wants to play. Win win situation. Also, melee won multiple fighting game of the year awards in the year it was released.

Fixed.

The real question is: Why do Smash players want their game to be acknowledged as a fighting game in first place?

I mean if some people consider it a fighting game and some other don’t, it’s no big deal and doesn’t prevent the game from being played competitively

I think it is a fighting game because it requires about the same amount of execution (if no more) than some other fighting games. Characters are also fighting in the game, just not in the traditional SF (QCFs and such) way.

OMG Dude those were one of the most beautiful entertaining matches I’ve ever seen in fighters. Also I think I saw triforce :open_mouth:

2001?
Pretty sure the award that year is akin to the special olympic’s gold medalist because the only good fighter out that year was svc2
