So, this fall we have another treyarch history shooter Vs. An unproven property (new developer and direction). Which one are you guys thinking about grabbing. I can only imagine that call of duty is going to stick to it’s get cozy, set some mines and grow your streak formula that made me love bad company 2 so much. Does anyone know if metal of honor will be doing anything differently? Metal of Honor’s single player looks to be awesome but I know nothing about the multiplayer. I am really looking forward to killzone 3 and the next Socom but their relative silence leads me to believe that they will come out later next year with killzone 3 going head to head with gears in the fall.

That’s to say nothing of resistance 3 which hopefully reverts back to the first one and gives us the weapon wheel and takes away the fucking regenerating health.

Oh, and is duke dropping this year?

Sorry, close it. Did not know there was a shooter thread.

There isn’t a FIRST PERSON SHOOTER thread so you’re good.

Reach already came out so besides snagging Black Ops during the holiday sales nothing for me.

I was just about to make a “Shooters” thread.

I guess it might be off topic since we’re talking about games not out but I’ll ask anyway:

What are the good shooters out there right now? I used to love counterstrike, day of defeat, battlefield 1942, rainbow six 3, battlefield 2, americas army and other games of the like.
I was playing this MOH beta and it was pretty bad but, it made me want to get back into some REAL shooters. The only games that seem to be out there right now are MW2 and BFBC2. Obviously we all know of the travesty of MW2 and BFBC2 is just a watered down borefest of 2. Are these my only options? Are shooters a dying breed?

I’ve been thinking about buying BFBC2 even though BF3 is in the works just to play it as a SF4 type of filler until a better game comes along. Of those of you that have played the MOH beta what do you think of BFBC2? If I hated the new MOH and loved BF2 will I like BFBC2?

I just want something with some staying power, I don’t want to waste money on these flavor of the month throw away shooters that no one will be playing by next year (AvP, ArmA II, Borderlands, Kane and Lynch, etc.).

As far as being on top: I’d like to check out Crysis 2 but, even the first one was only sub-par as far as the entertainment of the gameplay. It was actually quite tedious. The world and enemies are just so bland. Being that it’s on consoles it probably wont last as long as PC only shooters so I expect it to be a flavor of the month.

The MOH beta was pretty bad. From what I know the single player and multiplayer are nothing alike because 2 different development teams are making them so I’d like to check out the single player at least, a solid rental for my console perhaps.

Black Ops is trash, I wont be touching it.

Mafia 2 is a TPS but, I LOVED the first one so I’ve been thinking about buying the 2nd one on steam some time. It seems quite a bit like the first except for the borefest of regenerating life and dumbed down combat.

Brink has been interesting me a little bit but, I have a feeling it’ll be another… you guessed it: Flavor of the month. It looks like a generic combat shooter with a gimmick terrain feature. It could end up being a lot of fun though.

Does Fallout New Vegas count as a shooter?

I do believe it does.

Best shooter of the year is already out, Reach.

Waiting for Gears 3 info myself, really hope for a GoW1 styled multiplayer, two was complete shit.

I’d consider Fallout: New Vegas a First-Person RPG…

Then you probably don’t play a lot of RPGs!

Did you play Fallout 3? You could aim the crosshair directly at the opponents face in point blank and MISS. Definitely more RPG than anything else (unless they really revamped New Vegas in ways I don’t know about).

Out of the ones you mentioned, I actually liked Borderlands and Crysis (especially Warhead) the most. Crysis for all the dickery and just being awesome (excellent weapons and level design I thought, unfortunately needed vastly better enemies/bosses to make up for it…playing on the hardest difficulty is still fun if you don’t go the super stealth ninja route) and Borderlands for the addictive collecathon. Borderlands in particular still has DLC coming out, and still has a considerable number of players around.

Beyond the ones unmentioned, I also like L4D2 and TF2. Those are definitely gonna last, particularly TF2 I think.

Also, avoid Kane and Lynch…that game was…painful, in many ways.

Mafia 2’s pretty fun, but the shootouts are simple and little reason to explore it much. It’s like the definition of a rental game I think.

i probably logged more hours on medal of honor: allied assault than any other game besides madden and warcraft 3, so i’ll probably pick the new one up at some point.

Haven’t played a good FPS in many, many months. Pretty ready for a new one at this point. Don’t want my MW2 back because the bullshit tactics were just maddening. Then you mix in an onslaught of kids and you’ve got a recipe for an aneurysm. Not sure where to turn to get my fix. Black Ops looks a lot like MW2 (obviously) so I’m worried about the same problems as before. I can deal with the kids (ie. mute) but they’re replacing the noob tube with a fucking flamethrower. That’s even worse. Fuck.

The Medal of Honor beta is available on Steam until tomorrow ( the 7th) . So have a look at that if there’s any interest.

Since the title doesn’t say “first” I’m gonna go with the new Ghost Recon: Future Solider and Portal even though they are next year, every shooter coming out this year is generic trash.

Looking forward to Vanquish and Fallout Las Vegas
