Correct, most people did not. They were limited. And think about it, was there that big of a scene for the fighters (outside of fighting enthusiasts) compared to what is going on since SFIV. I wasn’t saying no one had sticks, I was just pointing out that the common person didn’t have them and DOA & SC combined didn’t bring in as many people into the scene as SFIV.
So what your saying is actually Stick players are cheating because they have a stick pressing two inputs at once for them where a keyboard user has to physically press both inputs themselves?

Listen using a KB is an advantage… seriously. I have played online games for about 3 years. I could never use KB. I say to kb players how do you do detailed commands on KB.

Ok dipshits, 1)my post was referring to the sole four direction keys found NEXT to the number pad and UNDER the Insert-Home-PageUpDown, Delete, End keyset, NOT THE NUMBER PAD.
2)Keyboard users do NOT have to input downforward,upforward, etc directions (since there are none on the directional pad!) using the aforementioned ‘piano’ technique, thus having an unfair advantage over stick/pad users.
The ‘piano’ technique isn’t even a technique as it just happens automatically if you press down to forward fast enough which any one who knows how to use a keyboard can do and will only get faster at it the more they use it.
Clarification number 3) Keyboard users in questions are those found on Kailerra/GGPO/2DF who use this skipping input method as most keyboard users do whether** knowingly or not. **

Even more solid proof: the right handed fingers are used to input the directions on keyboard, compared to the dull left hand of stick/pad users.
EXACTLY, the KB is the same as a D pad, you open any controller and all the D pad is is 4 little buttons. The only difference is on KB you have a way shorter gap between buttons. Its really not a disadvantage.
I will take back what i said about KB being an advantage cause i think a joystick is better, but what controller some one uses is all preference. All the best 2p fighter players use joystick because in the arcade thats what you get. So just cause poeple dont use KB alot doesnt mean it cant be used as good as any thing else.
And for the record i use a controller
EDIT: only downside of a KB is you cant mash buttons, some games you need to be able to do this.

If you’re actually deliberately pressing diagonals for 360 motions on keyboard, then you’re an idiot.
Just about every fighting game known to man only requires you to hit the 4 cardinal directions to register a 360.
This can actually make doing a 360 or 720 on keyboard much quicker and EASIER than pad or stick because all you have to do is piano 4 key inputs (many kb users put directional inputs on ‘asdf’ or so), and a standing 720 only requires pianoing 8 kb inputs (and if you start with left/right to down, you have to piano 4 key inputs in however many frames for your jump start-up animation to get a 720).
I don’t know about myself personally, but I think most people would find that much quicker to perform than making 2 circles on a joystick or pad.
To me, that would be the main reason that KB users have an advantage–I don’t know if it would be a good reason to ban keyboards from future tournaments. However, that would be the only somewhat-legitimate reason…not because of the fact that kb users are “weird” or “different”.

You can NOT use the keyboard piano shortcut technique of just quickly going from down to forward for a fireball on a stick/pad like you can on a keyboard. (again, using fireball motion as example, same can be applied for most if not all other move commands)
Let me try one more time, for a quarter circle forward twice super, keyboarders only have to input the down key and the forward key quickly with their right handed fingers.

Why don’t you look at a joystick. There are only 4 inputs. You only get the :df: by the stick pressing both inputs. Same thing for the Keypad. You can’t just press :r:, :d: then :r: again to get a DP. You have to press both the :r: and :d: at the same time to get :df: input.

I have used sticks, pads, keyboards for many years (sticks and pads longer than some of you have been alive), and I doubt those that are arguing have used KB cuz you idiots just don’t get it.
On a KB, quickly pressing down and then forward is registered as down, down-forward, foward. KB users do not have to let go of the down, and then press down and foward together and then let go and then press forward. They just quickly press down and then foward. Do you idiots get it yet? Do you not see this as an advantage??
This is NOT possible on stick/pad where you have to actually do all 3 inputs as there are no piano shortcuts that are possible with the KB.
On sticks pads you have to actually do the QUARTER CIRCLE INPUT UNLIKE KEYBOARD WHERE YOU JUST QUICKLY TAP DOWN and THEN FORWARD for a quarter circle.
It is not possible to get a quarter circle command to register by just tapping (piano-ing) down and forward on sticks/pads like it is on keyboards.

I believe what Violent Ryo means is that you can input a qcf much faster on a keyboard (because there’s less physical movement involved) than on a stick/pad (where your stick/thumb actually has to make the motion, rather than pressing a couple keys).
