So...is everyone confortable with the way America is headed?

Not to mention if you didn’t have coverage in the US of A, your average wait time got much much MUCH longer.

I love how people who have no clue what it’s like to have 100% free health care don’t understand how it works. It’s sad that people believe half the BS misinformed people spew about it though. It’s like they actually think they’ll be waiting a couple of hours or days if they are having a heart attack or some shit. Like Specs stated, and I can attest to, if you have something serious, they’re getting your ass in an operating room ASAP. My dad had to cancel shit he was doing the following week/month at the drop of a hat when they thought they discovered colon cancer (he did have it btw). Arguing about paying a little more taxes to ensure your fellow man has a fighting change is as fucking pathetic as arguing that poor people shouldn’t be allowed to go to your schools, or that ANY type of segregation or exemptions in society exist. Being equal to your fellow man is NOT fucking communism idiots, it’s ideal.

AND STOP THROWING AROUND COMMUNISM WHEN YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT IT.

edit: and watching Rocky IV does not = communist knowledge

i just heard on NPR (OMG LIBERAL RADIO) that in mass after health care was passed there 10% of doctors stopped seeing new patients, wait times to see a doctor went up and most had to see nurse practitioner instead, and doctors started lumping people into group appointments where he sees 3-4 people at once and you say aloud what is wrong with you in front of everyone

Sounds great!!!

I live in Mass. I’ve never experienced this and I was in the hospital just last month.

America is going somewhere?

In Soviet America, you don’t own healthcare, healthcare own you!

probably no one will watch it, but ehhhhh

since you like providing sources, why dont you provide me with some sources on how someone is going to receive amazing care far more quickly than they would have just about anywhere else in the world.

by the way i dont know how you can possibly know this, you havent experienced your particular circumstances in any part of the world other than here so how would you know, nor could you duplicate it again to find out sooo???

additionally this waiting 6 months bullshit. yo i dont know how many times i fucking called a new doctor to get in with what i consider an “emergency” and they told me i had a 4 month waiting period. really? 4 months? my fucking balls are going to fall off in 3 days and i have to wait 4 months? at that particular urological center, they had 9 doctors, and you are telling me that 9 doctors are COMPLETELY booked for 4 months. give me a fucking break. i dont know what sort of shanaigans they are dealing with but shit doesnt make sense to me.

im outi

Obama snapping on the republican party and it’s pundits.

Oh, and for people here like “You’re gonna have to wait 6 months to see a doctor!” I’ve had to wait a month and a half to see a surgeon, and I have pretty decent health coverage. And I can’t go to a different one because I have to be refered by my doctor. I tried to get another appointment with another doctor, but my health insurance won’t pay for it.

Do you know what the average wait time at an emergency room is?

I really have to wonder what the fuck some of you are smoking that makes you think the current united states health care system is fucking sunshine and blowjobs and that improvements don’t need to be made.

So if it’s that bad now it will only get worse since this bill isn’t health care reform. It does nothing to fix the broken health care. It just focuses on the health insurance part.

That’s the most basic point that everybody seems to overlook. Health care and health insurance are not the same thing, and trying to fix one doesn’t necessarily mean fixing the other.

You can tell Obama is getting bitter. He assumed the Republicans were in politics to make the country better.

A few years back I was a really political person, I watched the news constantly, followed senate races, looked forward to the presidential race like the World Cup. Nowadays, it’s all just a bunch of white noise. The sensation of actual competition to create a better America is lost. I classify myself as a liberal democrat, but even I feel the democratic side acts improperly at times. Both sides only wish to create their own government. The parties have become so different that compromise is a mere pipe dream. If the Republicans were to gain Senate or House majority, nothing would get passed that had a democratic lean to it. The health care reform is a perfect example of party loyalty. These candidates aren’t thinking in the interests of their district that elected them, they are just doing this for their party. If the Democrats presented a bill to provide the homeless with free food daily the Republicans would vote it down, and the situation could easily be said for the other side.

This country has become a battle for Totalitarianism rather than Democracy.

Democrats assume Obama’s trying to make things better. The numbers indicate that he is intentionally lying about his own healthcare plan, the economy and other matters, or that he’s shamefully naive. As time goes on, I’m seeing that more and more of what the republicans have been saying about him seems to have more than a grain of truth to those who can look at him without blinders on. The truth about anything is usually somewhere between what 2 sides say about a situation…not just one side, owned by and blindly partial to the person in question.

I really hate forcing people to buy insurance. I much prefer some sort of single-payer system along the lines of the German model or something similar; i hate insurance companies getting hooked up with customers at gunpoint

agreed with you there, kind of a slap in the face to put the mandate in with no alternative other than private insurers.

anyways, on a note unrelated to healthcare, but very telling of the actual costs of republican obstructionism… go go flood insurance?: http://wonkroom.thinkprogress.org/2010/04/02/coburn-flood-insurance/

i know i know, a link to thinkprogress, or should i say thinkcommunist, damn beck for outing us progressives yo!

I think Obama’s trying to make America better. That is, I think that he thinks he’s making America better. Bush did the same thing in 2007 with the failed attempt at immigration reform. It was a terribly unpopular bill that they tried to force in. Obama very clearly isn’t making reelection-friendly movies, and the only logical explanation is that he truly believes he’s doing the right thing.

Forcing insurance companies to cover people with pre-existing conditions is a big-ass setup. They’ll go broke doing this, since insurance is dependant upon the insured not constantly needing it. It’s a bet, a gamble that the insured won’t get hurt/sick. That’s why insurance companies avoid people with pre-existing conditions in the first place: they are a losing bet, and will hurt your profits. Insurance companies are in it for the profit, just like any other sane person who works. When you use it, it costs the companies money. They can accept so much loss, as long as your use doesn’t exceed what you pay. People with pre-existing conditions exceed their pay/use ratio, or will when their condition starts flaring up, and requires regular, super-expensive treatment. They will drive up costs massively for those of us who maybe use the insurance once every 2-5 years. After they fail, O will jump in and say “Well, they couldn’t do it…I tried to help them, but they just wouldn’t cooperate. They spitefully raised their rates on you.” Boom: government takes over yet another private business sector. Well played. Only the most blind of sheep won’t see this checkmate in 3 moves coming.
