Unacknowledged things that are canon are common in fighters though and become game trivia. Like for instance, Juri has been in two street fighter games and never once has it been mentioned that dictator killed her parents and caused the loss of her left eye. Its canon but never mentioned
This game will continue to take flak for everything. It’s like negotiating with the T-publicans, you never win. To a certain extent, and this is something a male not grasp, lesbians aren’t a tab on your favourite porn site. they’re women who fall for women, not some kind of built in trio. A lesbian relationship can be seen as a sexist thing, just one that disregards men (no really, lesbian means lesbian, not room for men, as hard as that can be to understand and accept). That thing about Juri Han, that’s just terrible story telling. Maybe I’m spoilt, since I’m a KoFer first, I’ve enjoyed BB, I played FF:vii (yes, I’m that ancient, ask me my age and I’ll kill ya) and generally prefer a game with great story telling, even if gameplay is slightly lacking. A character’s background story and motivations are at least as important as their actions during the game. Like Leona’s father, who’s not even seen in KoF but gets mentioned in 96/97. Her interactions with Mature/Vice/Iori and even others who aren’t related to Orochi. Pre match dialogue, post match quotes that dig deeper into a character’s personality.
Yes, a fighting game can skimp on story, but it won’t make it a better game. Skullgirls gets a pass because it’s an Indie game with a shoestring budget and is still in it’s infancy. But no part of the character’s personality is unworthy of exploration.
I say bring on the flamers, let them burn red with rage, let their rants bleed from their fingers. All the people who said the game was dead kappa (whatever the hell that means, kappa), a character couldn’t cost and we would never raise 150k. I say “the 1950’s called and they want their bigotry back”.
