SNK Thread - version Fresh and Clean

i owned this game back when it got released. its one of the few games i gave away with my top loader when i got the cdz. never missed it for a second. second rate fighter, still not too sure why its so succesful in the US though? RB2 and LB2 totally shit on this in every way and every day. might as well check out every other shitty 2d fighter ever released if your willing to play this shit.

WHP is barely, just barely a decent game. thats the most it gets. if you think this is good, then whats up with the really good 2d fighters? they godly? i just think its sad there are more people willling to play this piece of shit than LB2 or RB2, thats all.

musolini stop posting

why man? not everybody has to agree or like the same game. its just a sad thing that WHP gets more attention than LB2 and RB2. you could like fight fever, doesnt make it a good game.

You’re going to slam WHP, while praising LB2? That’s like calling the clap better then the herp.

All three of those games (and I actually like RB2) should really not be tourney fighters in the US ever again. Too old, too limited in appeal, and not great technically.

That said, a lot of SNK flavor in the US is local- look at NC with NGBC, Keits’s area with WHP, SoCal with Garou, Hispanic areas with 2k2. The only games with universal appeal potential are certain KOFs (like UM/XI), Certain Samshos (2/Special when it’s out/Tenka), and any new game that pops up, and that’s what SNK promotion needs to concentrate on, especially as a lot of good new games that are going to deservedly replace the tired old US mainstays are coming out or are out now. If games like CvS2 are going to be yanked forever (just when it’s starting to grow on me a bit), where’s the place for those games mentioned?

Part of what hurts the SNK scene in the US is the promotion of non-viable games. Yeah, if there’s a RB2 tourney, I’ll play it, I even played some casual RB2 at the tourney I went to yesterday, but it won’t make a good tourney cause it won’t draw more then 8 people outside of a major.

Okay, we have been over this. LB2 is a mess. The tournament scenes for that all have different ban lists and none of us want to deal with something like that.

RB2 does get play. It just wont be official at SB3.

Anyone who says WHP is a 2nd rate game simply has not played it competitively. How are you going to call a game as balanced as WHP 2nd rate? How many other games can you name with 17 characters in which 16 of them have a legitimate chance to win? Not everyone can LIKE the same games. I dont like tekken, but I’m willing to admit that its a solid game.

You need to do the same for WHP, despite not enjoying it personally. Its a GREAT game. One of the truly overlooked gems.

it’s fine to like whatever but you constantly talk shit about other games as if it’s objective fact without providing any justification other than “i don’t like it”. that doesn’t add anything to the discussion at all so just fuck off, thanks.

that was amazing

on topic… good to see WHP’s still going well. I’ll have to get on 2df because i;m out here in switzerland now =\

I like how it goes from “decent game” to “piece of shit” within the same paragraph.

Here’s the thing about WHP - most people don’t really understand how the game works. The game itself is a huge departure from the first 3 games in the series, which people are more familiar with - Perfect didn’t get anywhere near as much arcade distribution. Since it passed a lot of people by, they might not feel very inclined to start playing it now. Especially since the game is a completely different beast from the previous World Heroes games - there’s so much stuff going on in the engine, things you don’t see very often in fighting games (like certain normal moves causing instant guard crushes). Add that to the fact that not only does every character play very differently from each other, but that a lot of times it’s not immediately obvious HOW you should be playing a character for maximum effectiveness. And since the game hadn’t been very well-documented, it’s harder to pick up on these things and so the game has been ignored.

But that’s where Keits and Josh came in. They’ve done so much to figure out how the game ticks, and get the word out about how the game is an underrated gem that deserves to be played competitively. Prior to the existence of nFBA I’d never really given the game much of a chance either… nobody I knew played it and I didn’t really understand the game, so why bother, right? But I figured it was worth a chance. I ran into some problems trying to figure out what I should be doing with certain characters, but Keits graciously took the time to give me lots of pointers. Once I had a better idea of how to play, I started to enjoy it a hell of a lot more and am FIENDING to get more playtime in. They weren’t kidding, WHP is crack, yo.

I’m not really a fan of LB2, and as far as I know it’s never been all that popular in the US. Much of its popularity comes from the Asian countries. RB2 is a great game though, and admittedly one that I haven’t spent as much time with as I probably should. But it’s rather petty to make posts bashing a game just because “your” games aren’t being played at a tournament you’re not even going to attend.

Yeah, the thing with WHP is nobody in the West knew how the engine worked except for the few people who happened to own the Gamest tape. Seeing that on Youtube a little over a year ago is what piqued our interest. It turns out that this game is sort of a proto-Guilty Gear - autoguard normals, jump cancels, and the variety in the ABC moves reflect this.

so on or around the 15th? nice!

I personally couldn’t get into WHP, just to let musolini know hes not alone. But I can’t say whether the game is bad or not, I don’t play it and there are others that like it enough to play competitively. This argument won’t go anywhere because everyone has their own set of games they like or hate, I hate 3S with a passion but it still gets played

Even so, I’m down for figuring out the SNK games we need to focus on. Also whats everyone opinion on running games on MAME if a port isn’t up to certain standards?

i dont think any of the main games have a MAME port…unless im mistaken?

If we go by the 3 to be run at Season’s Beatings 2 of them are in mame.
In fact other than like 7 titles, they’re all on mame.

What main games have crappy ports? WHP, MOTW, and the Real Bouts have pretty solid PS2 ones, aside from little things that don’t really affect much.

i’m curious would people say that MOTW, 98 ultimate match and WHP are the most balanced of all snk games or are there other games that could possibly contend for that title?

not like it matters in “choosing” them anyway

RB2 and SSVSP have the best character balance IMO. 98UM and WHP are good, Garou I don’t really know well enough to say.

Other than Garou and KOF98UM not being in the states (yet), most of the “main” games have decent ports, other than OG98, KOF2k2, LB1/2 and US NGBC has that slowdown.
I guess also the Samsho stuff is either not here, or poorly ported as well.

EDIT: Garous about as balanced as 98UM I’d say, it just has a much smaller cast.

WHP is full of overpowering broken characters, but somehow 15 of them are realistically viable. Thats balance, if your head is on straight.
