I’ll probably look into netplay for now (especially considering gas prices right now).

As for the NC scene, I keep hearing good things about it and would love to get a chance to head up there sometime; with school and all going on, I’ll just stick to netplay for now (besides, I’d be no match for anyone up there).

Thanks for the heads up, I’ll definitely keep the Lucky’s tournies in mind.

SO I’ve read that ADK Heroes is supposed to be at TGS this year on the SNK stand. Would any of you be kind enough to tell me if anything is known about this game? is this anything to do with ADK of World Heroes fame?

Which KOF is regarded as the best and/or most popular currently? I kind of want to pick up playing one of these games, as KOF 98 looks pretty fun. Couldnt get into XI.

KoF’98 Ultimate Match is the current version used at tournaments, and regular '98 is still played online. You shouldn’t really bother with any other versions, maybe except 2k2 UM if it’s good (currently in development).

98um, especially considering you couldn’t get into XI.

Well, they’re held on Saturdays, it could be a daytrip, get out at 10am, get back at 11pm or so.
If you’re playing each other, you could be decent comp, and you’ll definitely get better from the experience. GGPO would do you more good short-term though.

Awesome. Thanks

How regularly are the tournaments held? Is it only for a month or two, or is it basically a regular thing throughout the year; if its a regular thing then I will look into getting up there one day (hopefully soon). I really want to learn 98 UM too, so that’s the main reason I hope to make it up there.

As for 98, I don’t have access to UM right now but I do have an older version of 98. I know there are new characters added to UM and some things have been tweaked with the characters, but would it still be okay to practice combos and what not?

They’re held about once a month, twice a month in the summer.

As for UM, given that it need a bit more support to stay viable- the next one is the one you want to show up too, especially if a new game kills it dead, such as SF4.

Yes, regular 98 will help with UM. Some differences, but it’s like using SNES SSF to practice for ST.

Okay, I will definately plan on making one sometime. I know I wouldn’t be able to make the next one coming up due to work however.

Is UM really on a downfall though? I figured it’d stay somewhat popular in tournies since its considered one of the best KoF games out there. I kinda figured SF4 will eclipse every new fighter coming out just due to having the Street Fighter name, but as long as UM stays somewhat popular I’ll be happy because I really love 98.

Regardless of that, I do plan on supporting the game even after SF4 is released.

Thanks for all the info. man.

Maybe this is the wrong place to ask but anyone has a detailed info on the spirit system of tenka? I have the import anthology and Im strugglin with the kanjis to know how-to or what-is in this game.

Thx ppl and to add more fire to the thing:

WHP > SF4…Joking of course. But WHP is my all time fav SNK game.

Yo, I was wondering, where can I get general KOFXI info? Namely combos, BnBs, etc. I tried all around SRK.com and couldn’t find anything.

I’m more asking this so I can complete the combo missions in XI. I want to know how to do a Big Combo/Infinite and kill five birds with one stone. And I AM kinda interested in KOFXIs competitive scene, but Michigan doesn’t have much of one. It’s my understanding that Dark Geese beat MI’s best SNK player with ease in XI at EVO North, pretty much because we don’t know how to play. Basically, half a dozen people play SNK games in this state.

There’s a bunch of threads for characters. The KOFXI wiki was a “work in progress” but apparently since so many people deemed it complete shit and 98 the holy grain, progress came to a halt.

Thanks man. I’ll get on it soon.

Perfect Stranger’s guide + alternate ways to beat the challenges.

Fun cheats for the challenges:

For the multi-hit ones, corner the opponent with Tung and combo into his Muscleman (mash P) to make the challenges even easier.

For Challenge 31 (50%), you can do Maxima’s semi-infinite since you have unlimited stock. Get Ryo into the corner and do Bunker Buster repeatedly until he’s done. This doesn’t work for the 80% challenge because there the CPU will recovery roll and thus any follow-up Bunker Busters won’t combo OTG.

For the Mr. Big Triple Health challenge, use the Hayate glitch for an easy, tedious and yet hilarious win. Throw an air boomerang, tag out BEFORE the rang comes back, and then Quick Shift Hayate back in. Hayate can now walk off the sides of the screen and you can pretend he’s Daffy in Duck Amuck…or you can throw boomerangs and boomerang supers from off-screen until you win. Be sure to stay far enough back, because Big’s Blaster Wave super can still hit you off-screen if you’re too close.
