Kain was born in 1981 and Rock in 1991 (or was it '90?), I think it was in a game manual I remember that I didn’t see it online (prolly the one for the US MOTW on DC)
The MOTW folks DO have full birthdates (dd/mm/yyyy)!!! - I just remember Kain’s cause I was born in 1981.
And I remember reading somewhere that MOTW takes place in 2008
I think SNK through that book out the window, so it doesnt matter kyo has been in school for ten years so who cares lol.
as to next dream match well I guess were 2 games away from that, I dont think they will carry on with the neowave thing, like you say it was more like a test.
I think they will just call it dream match never ends 2 or something if you check my post in the falcoon interview you see what I would like with a dream match.
I really dont know how their going to top XI though, I think if they are working with arcs on MOTW2 then that will be the one to top it, that animation on new Hardware we could see something that surpasses 3s.
I seriously think that having the NeoWave Series as DM’s only would kickass and leave the normal series with Numbers.
KOF XI, XII then NW2 and after that KOF XIII statring a new story - I’m for it.
But to keep it real I’m scared of this being the last Story Arc for KOF and then after this story arc we’re going to have that one KOF with everygoddamnedbody that we’ve been waiting for ala SSTenka/6
FFWA does not replace FF – they both represent the same story and series of events (it’s just that not all the events/characters of FF are depicted in FFWA, and vice-versa). PS: thanks for being one of the few who can spell Richard Myer’s surname.:wgrin:
Yes, KOF:Kyo takes place just before KOF’97.
I can try some more digging, but iirc I’ve never seen full birthdates (with years) for the MOTW cast. If you can confirm where you saw the info, I’d be interested in seeing it. Regarding the year MOTW takes place: there’s a school of thought running around the English-speaking web that SNK did some sort of “2-year time shift” with the FF series to bring it in line with the KOF series, which resulted in RBFF (and Geese’s death) not happening until 1998, therefore pushing MOTW to 2008. Supposedly, the reason for this was to allow Geese to still be alive for KOF’96, or something like that. The thing is, I’ve never seen any of the proponents of this idea put forth one Japanese source for this info – every bit of info I’ve ever seen from NEO-GEO FREAK magazine, Japanese guidebooks, etc. indicates that no such “time shift” ever occurred. And it wouldn’t need to, either, since KOF is a separate continuity from FF.
I enjoyed the KOF XI endings. There was a good balance of drama and comedy from team to team (the endings for the Ryuuko no Ken / AoF team and the Anti-Kyokugen team are particularly amusing). Lots of cliffhangers and plot mysteries in the KOF’03 and KOF XI endings, too. SNK’s really got me looking forward to the next installment just to see what all the big secrets are – and to see how badass they’re setting Kensou up to be.
Interesting discussion…thanks to all who are contributing.
I know about the Capcom plot canon for SF games…but is there a similar source online for SNK games (in English) that suggests tier levels for the various characters? I’m always curious to know how the characters compare to each other storyline wise and who officially beat whom (beyond all the obvious ones like Terry beat Geese, Kyo/Iori/Chizuru beat Orochi etc.)
Most definetly I’ve alaways been huge on since 95 ( played 94 afterwards) and its one of the most interesting storylines next to SF Alpha 3. Im not too sure about Terry beating Geeses in anything outside the Fatal Fury series. I dont think they’ve met in the kof universe but I can be wrong. I do know that “The Fatal Fury Team” gets far every year and every year they lose to “Team Japan” lol KOF wasnt meant to revolve around Terry though never has.
Some other little things about KOF there are a couple of comprised teams. In KOF 97 there was the a Special Team of Ralf/ Clark/ Athena. Storyline wise Leona went missing. Ralf and Clark went to go find her (with Athena’s help) and thats where you fight BloodRiot Leona. They werent able to beat her (uhh obviously) and thats when Kagura/ Kyo/ Iori came in as they advanced close to the finals of the tournament, but yeah there the Ikari Warrior team and Team China (Psycho Soilder were split up for a brief moment in the 97 tournament.
Theres also the “Hero Team” comprised of Ryo/ Terry/ Kyo. Theres no special ending or storyline to this team but its one of KOF’s “Dream Teams”
I never understood the whole thing with Kensou losing and gaining his psycho powers. Im really big on Team China myself (Theyre one of my favorite teams in KOF) I was dissapointed big time to see theyre performance in XI, them and the “New Art of Fighting Team” its seems like theyre looking past the Dominant OG’s of KOF (Blue Mary, King, AOF, Leona etc) and focusing alot more on Kula, Angel and such:wonder:
Man a good number of people would be happy if THEY WERE focusing on Angel.
But I think they are just taking out some of the lesser popular characters to add new ones in.
I got Oswald out of it, so I have gotten over losing favorites like Joe, Mai, Yamazaki and Andy. Hey it just means it will be more of a pleasure when they are tweaked and return.
Eiji and Duck fans seem to be fine and look how long they waited.
I don’t think AOF 3 really had any cliffhanger endings (except maybe for Jin Fuha still looking for Eiji) and the whole Wyler plot ended in that game as well, so my guess is that if they ever made AOF 4 (which is beyond impossible now, since AOF 3 was released in 1996), they would have to start a whole new plot.
AOF sprites were to big for my liking, anyway this will be out some time soon on the AOF collection disc, but since SNK messed up the orochi collection, dont expect anything good, i.e mame is problay better.
Besides K9999, May Lee, and Angel (although the original designs for Angel may have been made by the original SNK staff) and Lin’s crappy Hizoku pals, that’s it.
^^
I actually think SNKP still owns the rights to those characters, it is just that they were tainted by what some consider the worst KOF game around. They haven’t touched Foxy but they said on the anniversery website that she was actually alive somewhere.
Angel just appeared in the console port of Neowave and I think May Lee and K9999 have made appearances around some games as well. It appears to be a concious decision not to put the characters out there, possibily because the programmers don’t want to go through the hassle of balancing the characters (kind of Heidern or Eddy from Tekken), they straight up don’t like them (a big possibilty considering how hated that era of KOF was despite the successful characters to come out of it) or simply they are pulling of a Eiji/Duck King disappearing act (kind of what I suspect Andy will doing).
RB1 - 96 (It was happened several months since FF3)
MOTW - 06 (Terry’s 35 in this game and his birthyear from FF series official sources always was 1971.)
That’s the wierd thing about Garou Densetsu/Fatal Fury 2 that irked me, in vanilla GD/FF2, while fighting 3 of the 4 bosses, you see Krauser (and Laurence Blood) in these cutscenes:
Before Billy: Krauser asks a beaten up Michael Max and a beaten up Hwa Jai “You guys were named World Champions?”
After Billy: Krauser stomps over a beaten up Duck King, with a beaten up Tung Fu Rue beside him.
After Axel: Krauser tells a woman, and judging by Richard Meyer’s being beaten up, is the latter’s wife, “Tell it to the men (I know, man, SNK horrible translations strike again) who defeated Geese. The strongest legend is mine.”
As for Special, these changes happen:
Tung and Duck are playable for some reason, thus no cutscene of them beaten up, but what happened to the cutscenes where Hwa Jai, Michael Max, and Richard Meyer get beaten up, and more importantly, in vanilla GD/FF2, after beating up Laurence Blood, Krauser says, “I’ve been waiting for you. It seems you’re delighted by my invitation. I’m the sovereign of the darkside, “Wolfgang Krauser.” I can’t remain silent if you say you’re the strongest in the world. I’ll beat you to build my legend.” And in Special, he doesn’t say that. What gives?
EDIT: Speaking of Garou Densetsu/Fatal Fury and Ryukko no Ken/Art of Fighting continuity, if anyone wants a subbed version of that Memories of Stray Wolves flick, go here:
