SNK registers "KOF" trademark

Making him stronger than his father would be incoherent. But I really prefer Adel’s moveset, it’s a great twist on Rugal’s fighting style, and his command moves are neat. I also like the character’s story and personality.

Different circumstance: Rugal is dead and Kasumi’s dad has never been playable in the main KOF series.

Honestly, I respect your love for the game but I hated 2K, I tried to like but I couldn’t. Strikes led to a lot of dumb stuff, though it was great to see a bunch of other SNK characters getting some representation through strikers.

What about Duolon? I think he’s much better than Lin.

By what standards? Honestly I think Lin is a stronger character in the games he’s been in and I like his design more. Duo is fine though, just different.

Lin is super minor, but I’ll give you that point.

Duolon is more interesting and he was a great way to continue on the Hizoku subplot. And I think his fighting style(s) is more interesting than what we had with Lin. Even the design is richer and not bad at all.

I don’t agree. I feel like the rekka makes Duo much simpler and less interesting. He doesn’t have much pressure or combo potential compared to Lin, the rekka kinda funnels his gameplay strategy. He kinda needed the Seiei Enbu he had in games before XIII to make him interesting. The one thing Duo has going for him over Lin is the fireball and I don’t really feel like it makes him all that great. Like it gives him interesting mid screen options and obviously wakeup game, but fuck man, that Lin cr.B alone gives Lin much more potential.

LOL Dude, Duo has more options with his rekka than Lin.

After the ash saga, since he was erased from history i would prefer a reboot

so far the only retcons that we ultimately find out in KOF were

  1. the fatal fury and KOF universes are different, they share the same story with the same cast with Fatal Fury 1 and 2, but they part ways with FF3 and KOF 94, plus other things like Ryo and Robert being older than Terry, Andy etc. and Geese being dead in the FF universe, while in the KOFverse Terry and Ryo are at the same age group, and Geese is still alive,

  2. K9999 was retconned out of existence and every role he played canonically was replaced by Nameless (of course meaning Nameless was teammates with Kula, Foxy and Angel in 2001 and killed foxy, and has that maniacal demeanor)

I’d bet Garou also takes place in the Fatal Fury Universe and I wonder where Kyo and Iori are in that parallel universe…

Hmmm maybe another option would be the next KOF saga (after the mandatory dreammatch edition :p) can introduce the concept of alternate universes/versions of the character (not just in moves, but in size, age, fighting style, and face/heel swaps) like Sho Kirishima being the original Kyo Kusanagi like Earth-2 Superman who can’t fly, was weaker and had wolverine’s attitude being the original superman of the 1930’s

hehe about dreammatches I can’t wait to see a Saiki-based version of Omega Rugal, should he be the boss of the next dream match, the 98 1 was the orochi stuff (buffed version of the 95 in demeanor), the 2002 version was NESTS inspired Omega Rugal, so Ash-Saga Omega Rugal makes me curious.

The answer is: The AOF and FF characters don’t have actual existence in the KOF timeline. They’re simply there in the roster so you can play with them, but they don’t even interact with the KOF main/original characters. But nope, they don’t exist in KOF.

Same thing, Kyo and Iori for sure don’t exist in the FF universe.

Sounds extremely unnecessary. This is not American comic books.

I do think the ff and aof chars exist in kof, geese sent the 97 team to participate to get info on orochi where yamazaki is orochi, and iori certainly did team up with billy and eiji in 95.

Alternate universe is a concept not exclusive with comic books, i always thought the ash saga with its mystic motif was too unlike the tone of the orochi saga, gameplaywise i think it would be refreshing.

And Mary was with Agents Team in KOF XI. But none of those characters had any relevance in the plot. You could tell Iori was with Chang or Choi instead, and it would be exactly the same result.

I don’t think so, but meh, whatever. EX characters usually exist in KOF and Fatal Fury, so it wouldn’t be as much of a problem. Wild Wolf Terry was there as an alternate version of Terry in KOF MI2.

The only thing I wouldn’t like is that they would be working in many alternative versions of some characters when they could introduce other unique characters instead. For example, three Terrys and two Joes, instead of adding, I don’t know, the USA team… So, if the idea is doing extra models for some characters to have as alternates, I would say no. Even if I wanted to have the classic Ralf and Clark back, instead of those horrible beefcakes from XII/XIII.

LOL this is a joke, right? Yes, they ARE minor but I wouldnt take it so far as to say they ‘‘Don’t Exist’’.

They don’t do anything of relevance, they don’t fight the enemies or anything, so, outside of the fanservice, they really have no existence, in my opinion…

Mmmh, you’re right. I’m too stubborn. But yeah, whatever. AoF and FF characters have no relevance on the plot, we agree on that

And to be fair, I read(but the source eludes me at the moment) that KOF was originally envisioned as a way for a young Ryo to interact with Terry. So, you know, they have that going for them at least.

What do you guys think are the chances of the Maximum Impact characters going over to the main series? A team of Alba, Soiree and…I have no idea.
EDIT: Liuse, maybe?

The KoF and FF continuities were pretty much always treated as separate - with the Ash story involving time manipulation, now they have an excuse to explain all those oddities - or add new ones, like the Samurai Shodown and Last Blade characters in the XIII stages.

It does, the Garou intro specifically references Terry’s Real Bout ending.
Also, Kyo shows up in Bob’s FF3 stage - I think Kensou does too. Choi also shows up in Kim’s RB2 stage.

The closest to that was MI2’s use of alternate character verions, and character skins that referenced different characters - there was a Syo skin there, but I don’t recall if it was assigned to default yo, or the Classic version.

If they were to make a new dream match based on current assets, I suspect they’d prefer to actually to go with a renewed Adel than Rugal. He almost made the cut, based on soe illustrations, not to mention story mode presence. I really don’t see Saiki being implemented beyond his already playable self…

Considering how they’ve depicted him since 2003, it seems entirely intentional - one of those thing when they try to get plot and moves to match to an extent, like claw Iori.

Other than Iori’s 95 team and the 97 special team of Yamazaki, Billy and Mary, there’s also Chizuru’s 97 team, which consists on her, Mai and King. Also, Malin teaming up with asumi and Eiji in XI.

Yeah, those characters tend to be secondary, but KoF is where a lot of their character development has continued outside their source series - on the AoF side of things Yuri’s gotten a lot of development there, running circles around her family to get to do her own thing, the King & Ryo relationship gets developments and pushes there were practically absent in AoF.

KoF has been running on comic book time since 95, the last year where KoF characters actually aged (so Ralf never got to be 40).

Unlikely IMO, although MI2 did get a couple of nods in XIII, with Lilly using her alternate outfit from that game in Billy’s stage, and Elisabeth getting a Mignon palette.
MI just went in too weird a direction, with aliens and whatnot, and pushed its own original characters too much to the forefront. Still, I could imagine some character gettings nods, like Chae Lim in some Kim cutscene, or that Hizoku girl that appeared in KoF MIRA, Xiao Lon getting a brief reference, since Ron and gang are being built up as major story players for future installments.

Originally.

If the next game is going to be a “carnival” (I mean, a crazy celebration dream match), there’s a big chance, definitely. But they would have make sure to add characters people actually want first. If there’s a chance between USA Team and Maximum Impact Team, I think they would choose USA for sure.
