Sneaker Ninjas Unite! - The Guy matchup thread

Trying to help out

Sorry for the double post.

There might be some useful info about the Dictator match-up to be found in this video:

One thing that’s interesting is that Guy’s standing HK can apparently hit Bison when he’s crouched at some distances. Check it out at 5:48. Though it’s important to note that hitboxes can change depending on whether or not the opponent is blocking.

I played about 60 sets with my friends Dudley, and I still can’t figure out what I should to do punish a blocked machine gun upper, maybe run xx slide?

I believe target combo can reach him. I’m not sure though.

tatsu???

i think aside from knowing what punishes what…which is always good. the matchups should also list what to be careful of and what not to do with guy against specific characters.

for example… against t. hawk…i know i’ve seen his 360 punish blocked jab shoulder. it seems to be for free. i don’t know the frames for t.hawk’s command grab.

also… against ibuki…this is just a little tip. be aware of when the player does her crossup dash shenanigans and which side she lands on. if you attempt to ex hurricane her as she appears on the other side but you don’t do it in the proper direction…you’ll get guy’s ex run. i did this a couple times against my friend’s ibuki then finally had to wait and see if her dash put her behind me and fix the qcb motion accordingly. because he has a qcb and qcf motion that end with a kick input… there is no auto correct ex hurricane. i hope that makes sense.

Was playing against some shoto’s yesterday and Run xx Stop seems to go underneath tatsu’s.

Guy really has a weird hitbox

Anything for the Guy vs Adon matchup?

just got the game 2 weeks after everybody and i can tell you Bushin chain punish alot of stuffs on block.easily.

Makoto dash punch,rose spiral arrow,sagat tiger knee,cody ruffian kicks,dudley machine gun blow<-(1frame i think,timing really strict)

run xx stop pwns bait srkz.

back dash vs t-hawk is your best friend.
i just pissed off a 360 masher/abuser and he rage quitted.

I have problems beating Chun-Li players. Bad ones, even. Something about this match-up seems really bad to me. Guile seems problematic as well. Anybody have any insight into this?

Guile looks like a nasty match up now. His SB is completely safe, pretty much all of his normals shut down the bushin flips and his jabs were stuffing Run before either OH or slide could come out at certain ranges. From what I can see here Guile owns this match up. In general Guile pokes > Guy’s too. He was getting counter hits all over the place.

Sorry, machine gun upper is deejays move, I’m talking about the move where dudley does a quick dash forward and does a flurry of punches. I don’t know what its called lol. Both target and ff chain wouldn’t be close enough to hit or it would be blocked.

I played a 1-3 matches against dhalsim. I believe Guy dominates in the air against dhalsim unless Guy is getting countered. (EX flip helps in this situation I think?) I manage to air flip throw a lot against dhalsim because usually he likes to float in the air.

My suggestion to dhalsim players is to stay grounded against Guy.

Hopefully this helps considering the same dhalsim player wreck my friends main which was Balrog (his Balrog can wreck me pretty easily) and I barely play Guy and had quite a few beating against him. Again though, he probably never went against Guy before maybe and alot of Balrogs.

Sorry if its not useful :stuck_out_tongue:

Well EX Runs take 2 hits and some well placed Hozantos would help out a lot as well. Well placed Run -> Neck Flips will get over projectiles too.

After finally playing and getting completely owned by a bunch of Dudleys, I decided to experiment against one of them. I can’t find any other moves that are safe against the Machine Gun Blow except Guys EX QCB+K. The great thing is that it looks like you easily get in 3 hits from it if you block, then use it as a recovery, but it requires an ex bar and after you run out, I can’t find anything else to do against it.

Guy’s c.mk is a pretty good anti-air. It puts him so low to the ground and than the sweep hits on certain jump ins. Deep ones clip him though

So how are you guys doing against fireballs? For me, jump+d.mp to control the range of our jump is the best choice, it’s specially good versus Dhalsim and Guile because you can place Guy just outside of their AA knee/upper and punish with Muso Renge/pressure. Ex Run -> Slide is damn good too if you have the meter and life.

U2 versus Ryu and T.Hawk is also damn good, you can punish Ryu’s tatsumakis and DP FADC (big!) on block aswell as Hawk’s Condor Spire (even if it hits). Oh, you can also punish a blocked machine gun blow by Dudley (must be blocked low or it may push you too far) and probably many of Balrog’s moves on block. I hadn’t fought many MUs yet but I see myself aways picking U2 for it’s extremely fast startup and because it’s at least his best punisher against random whiffs/blocks.

Which ultra you guys find more reliable for most of your match ups. I started with U2 initially, as its a move that I use to punish. However, U1 can be comboed with some of his corner traps.

what can i do to punish scissor kicks/balrog punches, etc.

vega has been destroying my Guy :frowning: really good pokes, or maybe i just suck. although Ive been doing pretty good against all the new chars. Maybe its cus their all still learning.

I think we can all agree that Guy gets outpoked easily, even with his cr.mp.
Chun-li match-up is definitely in Chun’s favor.
Those cr.lk’s can stuff anything Guy throws at her.
And don’t get me started on Chun’s target combo in the air.
That target combo will stuff any air-to-air move, except EX grab.

Can anyone give me any tips on how to approach characters with very good pokes?
I feel like Guy’s approach game is on the weaker side.
But to end on a good note, Run-Stop command is a great tool to bait out ultras and reversals.
Then you can punish with Final Fight combo =]
