actually i take that back… how the hell do you get it to not cross up when you tele?? that shit would make the mixup pretty bonkers

That’s interesting. I never bothered messing around with it after UFGT because it NEVER crossed me up when I was playing xzephyrx. I’m going to try some stuff at home tonight with it and if I can get it to not cross-up, I’ll record it on my iPhone and post it.

Ideas I’m thinking about currently:
Timing specific? (probably not b/c of how strict the timing is)
Character specific?
Training mode specific?

I suppose it is possible that I misunderstood the situation, but that seems highly doubtful as I was already aware of the trick before UFGT and I stopped our matches so he could prove to me that I didn’t have to switch sides. In any case, it’s definitely worth exploring because, like rogueyoshi said, if there is a way to choose whether or not it crosses up, it’s a literal 50/50 since there is no visual difference.

Earliest…it’s hard to describe. You have to cancel it just as ice spikes begin to form around Dante. So when you Devil Trigger, the cage hasn’t formed around you yet but when the Devil Trigger animation finishes, the cage is completely around you, then teleport immediately.

I’ll see what I can do about getting it to non-cross-up.

It could be character specific too, who knows haha.

If it’s possible to Devil Trigger before the cage has formed, then that’s probably what causes the cross-up. The video you posted before shows the cage fully formed before the teleport, which I guess is what is causing it to hit before the opponent switches sides.

So has anyone found a reliable way to get sword dance to come out 100% of the time? I can get it like 50% of the time but it feels really random when it’s going to come out or not, even when I know the timing. Does plinking it help? There’s gotta be something to make it consistent.

I think you’re right actually. I’ll definitely test it out later on.

Samurai, I use the last hit of JetStream as an audio cue. So when I hear the last slashing sound from Jetstream, I double tap S. I don’t think there’s a method to get it out reliably, apart from somehow learning the timing unfortunately…

Does the double tapping actually increase the chance of getting it? I’ve been using that last hit as the audio cue as well but it sucks when you play on TVs and connections with various different input lags. Kinda sucks to have just frames like that in this day and age, seems like bad design.

Also where is the cue on reverb shock? Is it the last hit like on jet stream?

Why people still bother that silly move is beyond me. There are much more consistent DHC glitch setups.

Though you could try XX>Revolver>Crazy Dance Attempt 1 and if it fails, go into Jetstream>Crazy dance attempt 2.

Fuck that move though.

Double tapping makes it easier for me, sorta. Might be just a placebo effect though.

Cue for Reverb Shock on hit…no idea, sorry. I know the timing for it on whiff though haha, it’s similar to Reverb Shock>Fireworks whiff cancel. It’s during or a bit after he says…I can’t remember what he says lol.

Lol. I can’t get the timing down on making it a cross-up, but here’s a video showing that it’s not a cross-up if you do it once the cage is formed. Sorry for the bad set-up. Didn’t want to take the time to make it level and what not.

Well, I can’t get it to cross up ever again, even when doing it early. So either, I’m screwing up, or I’m wrong and it never crossed up. Damn lol, what can I say?

You got me all excited for nothing! lol

Can anyone else get this to cross-up and record it?

Seems like Richard Nguyen took the crown back. Dude is ridiculous.

Dante plus protection assist is so broken. You already can’t hit Dante and then he has Haggar keeping the buttons out of Metro City.

I cant record this but i can almost guarantee that the non-cross up is due to the other player walking backwards. This happens a lot of the time even when just doing teleport hammer.

I use assists all the time to make fake crossups by calling an assist so my opponent gets pushed pack, so when i teleport even a j.H will not cross up

Still though this should work as a new character is coming on screen or the other player is in the corner i think.

I was using this in matches yesterday, and didn’t know about any of this non-crossup-business, so I went and fished out my Player 2 controller and did some testing.

It’s confirmed to not be a crossup, on crouching, jumping, or walking backwards Dante/Phoenix/Wolv. Logic would dictate the same rules would apply to the other characters. In all three cases, whether it was done through Million Carats -> DT or Million Carats -> X-Factor(The setup I’d been using to ambush anchor characters), it’s blocked as if it was a frontal hit. If they’re walking forward, jumping forward, or crouching forward, it hits, and is not blocked. I wasn’t able to create a situation where it hit as a crossup, against these three characters. Not sure exactly why it isn’t registering as a crossup, but my best guess would be, that the ice materialized and hits, before the game transfers Dante’s block-relevant position to that of a crossup status. re: the ice is faster than Dante. Either that, or the size of the hitboxes involved somehow marrs the crossup effect, in which case it might work on someone like Sent, dunno. Tired and going to bed.

Now, I’m sadface. ._. I could record these findings, but, it’s sort of a hassle, and the results are very cut and dry, summarized here. If anybody thinks they have a situation where it is acting as a crossup, I’d be happy to test and record it.

It’s okay that you didn’t record your findings because I already linked a video of me showing it doesn’t cross-up.

I tested TheSnappy’s idea that it might work on incoming characters, but it’s still not a cross-up.

People suspected it was because they were walking backward. I tested it for 1, 4, and 7 blocking directionals, but, yeah.

Sorry, I wasn’t meaning to make it sound like I didn’t appreciate what you did.

Question about Dante’s combos.
Is there an easier way to input his follow-up attacks?
It seems I have to really put effort in when inputing the command in time.
Also, can he only chain into his follow-up attacks from the beginning of the previous attack?
