it seems like smash is REALLY successful as a competitive fighting game in the US from all that info.
what do you think are the key factors in that success?
the fact that the game caters to everyone? (if it draws more casual players eventually more players will become hardcore)
or maybe it’s something about the community itself?
or maybe its the big events like MLG that boost the popularity of its competitive play?
or maybe it’s all about drama?

Changing the number of matches during the QUALIFYING ROUNDS is NOT THE SAME as changing the core set of GAMEPLAY RULES.

maybe i need to rephrase the MLG part. what i meant there was more about the big money prizes. maybe the money is what gets so many people to go pro and travel for tournies?

Keits: Your misunderstanding me completely. I’m not saying the MvC2 at EVO World wasn’t a tournament. I believe it was, just as Smash was a tournament even though it was best of 1 during qualifying rounds and arguably the best player in the world was eliminated because of this. In the end, the slight difference in rules had no bearing, it was still a tournament. Its LameWadd, who I recognize as a poster from Sirlin.net, that believes the differences in rules means these tournaments shouldn’t count as tournaments.

I have 10000000 neg rep because I post about Smash, the neg rep I get is laughable, rarely do I spam post, its just that anything I post is usually in relation/defense of Smash and because of that I get neg rep. Heres a quote from one of the reps:

Actually this thread is pretty funny, as a few of the posts were spent commenting on Milktea from one of the photos, who at the time was dating PC Chris (don’t know if they are still together). She’s arguable the best female Smash player in the country, I hate seeing some of you guys degrading her because shes a girl who is spectating a match. Anyways, its funny because the argument exists on one hand that gamers can’t get girls, yet on the other hand the one girl that everyone comments on in this thread dated a Smash player.

Since when does saying that a girl is hot = degrading said woman?
