Smash is a fighting game.
A non-traditional one… one that many of us don’t like… one that many of us actually HATE… and one that seems to steal the limelight from other, more serious fighters.
But is it a fighting game? Yes… yes it is.
You don’t have to like the game to recognize that it’s at least in the same basic genre as what you do like.
Both “Iron Man” and “Batman and Robin” are comic book movies.
Are they even vaguely similar? No.
Yeah, life is tough like that, sometimes.
Honestly it’s pretty pathetic how immature the people are on this site. Are people really that scared/mad that Smash is so popular that they have to deny it’s existence and call it easy lol? Your doing nothing else in that game BUT fighting. And Melee obviously isn’t “Easy” seeing as how there’s big ass money involved in it and high level tournament play.
Some of the games people play on this site are EASY, so I don’t get whats the beef.

Its a party game, like Mario party, but you have to beat up the other Mario characters.
Its not a straight up, 1 on 1 (or tag mode) vs fighter like SF, MK, SNK, AH, etc.
This is what happened when the brains at Nintendo wanted to rape the industry for more money from their #1 target customer: KIDS AND THEIR PARENTS.
Stop supporting such BS games and maybe Nintendo might work harder at more and BETTER (I mean, there is only like 10-15 GOOD Wii games anyway) Wii games.

Super Smash Brothers is one of the most highly rated series in history. Almost every type of gamer likes the series, in fact it’s virtually the ONLY reason to buy a Wii. Think about how many people bought game cubes just to play the game.

I hate that reasoning. Do you really think we’re trying to make Smash a more traditional 2d fighter? No way in hell. We’d be playing Stamina Mode in that case (it has hp instead of %). And we aren’t banning items, either. Items on or items off is simply the mode in which you like to play the game. Why did EVO decide to use stock instead of time? Time is the default setting, they should use that until its proven that its completely broken. Oh wait, they PREFER to use stock! Oddly enough, people on Smashboards PREFER to play without items. You’ll get the same reaction from them if you try to play time or try to play heavy mode. They simply don’t enjoy it like that nearly as much.

Fuck no, Most people will remember streetfighter/MK more than smash bros. Why? Because smash bros is aimed at kids. Simply because its brand new and it has popular characters in it. It gots all this kiddy shit in it. If it had fuckin fatalities in it, I’d be all on it and saying its good, Like snake slitting marios throat(Vgcats). That’s true in most cases but I have to argue that smash (will more melee actually) was very entittled to it’s popularity and acclaim. It isn’t a traditional fighter but it still rewards the competitive aspect and has similar enough concepts to a fighter that I think it should be considered as such.
Fuck it then, By all means give it a fighter name. Just dont rank it up there with Streetfighter. SF molded the fighting genre, This shit broke it.
