Yeah, he did. Costs 3 Levels, easy to do (HCB + Special), solid damage. Releases tons of red gems (this is NOT a weakness; Dan’s best gem move is the Gadouken) and all-in-all is unexpected.
We had a Gem Fighter arcade machine in Edmonton very briefly, and I remember busting out Dan’s Raging Demon. “WHAT THE FUCK!?” was the response. Good times.
Dan actually has a super that is MORE damaging (the Hishu Buraiken) and only costs 2 Levels, but man was it a bitch to do on command. The motion was like HCB, HCF + Special or something, and it needed to be super-precise (like MvC2 Roll Flower Bomb precise) to come out, or you got Oyaji Beam/Raging Demon instead (the former more than the latter, which is even worse).
Still, good times. I think Akuma is actually more humorous than Dan in this game. In his storyline, Akuma abandons his island when it becomes a tourist resort/amusement park. HOW WACKY IS THAT!?
Seriously, we need a Pocket Fighter 2. Dan needs more costumes, and less somewhat-disturbing father combos. :looney:
Akuma is absolutely hilarious in Pocket Fighter. It’s just great to see the self-proclaimed “Master of the Fist” doing stuff like stretching and diving while wearing a speedo and goggles, whacking people across the face with a wooden board, not to mention his command throw, where he grabs the opponent, then proceeds to sit down, hold his head in disgust, and give them a lengthy chewing-out in Japanese (dang, wish I knew what he was saying… I think I hear a “masaka” (“unbelievable”) in there somewhere) that turns them to stone.
If Pocket Fighter had Aircombos… it would be AWESOME. Or am i wrong? since when jump up theres so much space, which should be used for comboing mofos up there.
As great as Dan is in any game, he is fucking outrageous in Pocket Fighter. A karaoke performance that stuns and damages, impersonating Elvis, grabbing his father by the nose and using him as a weapon… Dan is fucking awesome.
I haven’t played it in a while, but I remember that I never played Ryu. Not because he wasn’t a solid competitor, but because his combos were the least-interesting to look at. Compared to Akuma, Dan, Chun Li, Hsien-Ko, etc., Ryu is just plain boring.
Having Ken’s face wind up blackened after a fiery Shinryuken was a great touch, too.
And those amazing backgrounds… ah, good times. Fanboy paradise.
It has launchers, and though I’d have to retest, I think that Ken/Ryu/Akuma have a hurricane kick touch of death combo involving a launcher and a tiger-knee tatsumaki.
Speaking of which, those three enter fucking ORBIT on a tiger-knee tatsumaki. :wow:
EDIT - Dan’s Hishu Buraiken is HCB, HCF + Special. There’s no other way to do it. Interestingly, this move is missing from the official guide. Mad powerful, fucking awesome looking… but Dan still sucks.
