If this shit is seriously being held downstairs then forget it, I’m serious.
You want more people to come to a gathering? For what?
What the hell is the point? I tried holding gatherings at GDT and that failed each and every time. Now you want like 3x the people in that basement? Come on…
Tournaments with money prizes > Gatherings with no money prizes.
Noone wants this buddy buddy shit anymore, they’re out for blood.
Nothing’s stopping you arseholes from having your own mini-tournament, which I plan to.
Consider this a stepping stone, you know?
And FUCK this “out for blood” shit. I hear that phrase in my actual presence, I will donkey punch the fucker that says it. It’s nice to be serious about games in a tournament setting, but FUCK grudges.
Fucking VIDEO GAMES, man.
And yeah, it would be nice to actually have the location itself sponsor the event, but it’s a bit soon for that. That’s the way NYC businesses work, because they can’t really spare any expenses unless they know they can get the numbers. Sucks for us, but look at it this way: all we have to do is show up. Considering how accessible it is, it’s not that hard at all.
I don’t want the place sponsoring the event. I never sponsored GDT. The whole pot went back to the people who came.
I’m just saying noone is going to come for a gathering, or free mini tournaments. And when I say noone I’m talking about the crowd outside the regulars that come every Friday, which is who you’re hoping to bring in.
“There will be tournies for the 10th @ $3 entry to try to get some interest. Keep in mind that this will be a trial event to see how things go. If we get at least 12 people total, then the event stays, but if we get 25-30 people to “pre-post up” for the event, then I can convince the place to have it partially upstairs on that Saturday.”
Tournies will be
3s

GGXXS (Sean post up how you’re going to run it or if you want to change the format etc.)
I’d rather go to NYclan, I’m sorry. I really doubt that they’d ask for proof of people coming, and if it’s nothing more then a $10 entry fee to satisfy them then we’re better off.
I just hate the notion of having to prove to someone that we need a venue. Like this isn’t already a blesing and a curse.
This is just my personal bitch fest mind you, take it how you want.
Someone who has had proven success with FPS games has been hearing from fighting gamers that they want to hold events. But at the same time there is zero guarantee that reserving the entire place on a day that birthday parties and FPS festivities could be run is going to be profitable, because nobody can guarantee a headcount. So web2zone is teaming up with people who are figureheads in the community to try to GRAB INTEREST and get people there so that people have a place to play in the tri-state area. NYClan has fridays, web2zone decided to go with saturdays. everybody wins.
Chibi, you don’t think this is fair?
If you already knew you were making money doing something else, would you take a chance to empty out your entire building of anything BUT fighting games for a day? Or would you want to throw a preliminary event first to see how much interest was really out there?
I’m sorry Chibi but you are wrong here. You are not thinking in a business sense. You are thinking as a fighting gamer and by now you must have come to realize that the world does not revolve around us. If we want priority and attention given to us, we have to prove we deserve it. GETTING AS MANY PEOPLE TO THIS WEB2ZONE SLAMMIN SATURDAY NIGHT EVENT is a positive way to PROMOTE GROWTH of the community, and can only lead to better things.
Meanwhile, you’re here complaining left and right and not even being specific as to what your issues with web2zone are. If you have something SPECIFIC you want to address, please bring it up and we will address it. But if you are going to continue like this, and no positive progress is going to come of it, I’ll have to ask you to just stop posting in this thread. If you have nothing positive to say, please don’t tear down the efforts of others who are trying to promote the community.
Now…
I strongly urge that if you like fighting games and live in the area to make your way to web2zone come Feb. 10th. Bring your friends too. I promise a fun time for all, and as long as we pack the place and keep it poppin’, only better things can come in the future.
As of now I will talk to the owner about getting some of it upstairs. A few things I have to explain to them will be the security issues (having ppl up and downstairs will be hard to keep track of but I will work on it) and to what amount we will have upstairs. Either way It is feasible. Like I said to DSP and you chibi, my goal is to build a fanbase to the point where I will drop $$ for tournaments and Sponsored Prizes for ranbats. You guys, like the SSBM players I know, deserve the royal treatment compared to other gamers.
I will do my best with what I can and thanks for being honest. If you weren’t you wouldn’t be you.
While it’s not the end of the day,
I’m officially announcing that, on 2/10/07, Slammin’ Saturday Nights will feature the debut of the NYC Guilty Gear ranbats.
