Ok. just googled the significance of those names. they are definitely offensive. Clearly this was not SG’s intent but…yeah that’s offensive.

You don’t really understand?

That means you understand to a certain degree.

And plus, the rest of the world isn’t you.

Peacock and friends starring in: How I learned to stop worrying and love Larry

ops, thanks for pointing that out.

anyways seriously, how are we to assume that the target audience would really be that invested in the name? I mean obviously, not everybody thinks like I do, but is there really any reason to react in any other way than acknowledging the fact after almost 70 years?

I have a few questions about system mechanics:

  • How many specials can be done in the air?
  • After using an air normal, is it possible to recover and then use another move?
  • Does hitstun/blockstun vary between grounded and aerial hits, and if so, how are they related?
  • Do characters get any throw invincibility as they recover from blockstun, hitstun, and/or knockdowns?

For what it’s worth, Metal Gear Solid 2 had a mad bomber boss called Fatman who named himself after that bomb. That’s a very Japanese game.

True story: I was wearing a 1942 shirt (the Meatbun Cammy one), and someone came up to me and said “That’s offensive to Japanese people.” I replied “A Japanese company made this game. It’s actually a very popular franchise over there and spawned five sequels.” They stammered for a moment, finally saying “Oh…” and then walked off.

Still though, a Japanese company referencing their losses is one thing, but an American company doing it is another. Just name the bombs Pearl and Herb R. instead.

Dr Strangelove references FTW.

Hey, questions.

  • Air specials are character specific, some have none. Filia can do Hairball and Metamorphosis in the air, Cerebella has an air command grab, Parasoul can toss tears in the air, Peacock can’t do any air specials, and Miss Fortune…has…things.
  • You are allowed as many actions as you want even in normal jump, so if your air normal recovers you can do another. Also related to this, there are no oh-hey-you-can’t-block-anymore style guardbreaks.
  • Hitstun/blockstun varies, and is per hit. They may be the same for a move, or they may not be related at all. No standard like “attack level” from GG.
  • Zero throw invincibility once you recover from hitstun, blockstun, or knockdown. Once you can move/start to jump, you can get thrown.

About the bomb names - sometimes you have to listen to the legal dept; arguing is fruitless. :^)

^ Speaking of Ms. F, is there anything you can tell us about her character archetype?

Of course, I can understand if you wanna keep that stuff under wraps until you can actually show her… >_>

Well I guess if it’s a legal matter, then it’s a different story. You can’t really do anything against that

If Japan didn’t like us I don’t think they’d be our allies. That’s not to say there isn’t some who probably hold grudges but that should go with out saying. Hell I still see confederate flags when I drive around in different places.

Either that or George

here’s the thing: changing the name would be easy and would not take anything away from the quality of the game.

Can you call the move big boy…just take the or little man. just fuse the to names together. call it little big man boy.

Y’all changed Fatman’s name?

Sometimes, but feel that more often they will do it just to deny you your win because they want to spite you and/or feel you don’t deserve it. I’ve gotten quite a few hatemails telling me as much.

I literally had 80 ragequits trying to get to the 100 ranked wins achievement in HDR (yeah, I counted). There’s no strong (or at least visible) incentive not to quit like there is in MVC3 and SSF4, where your rank gets murdered for disconnecting and ragequits are relatively rare.

So, yeah, loss for both players for a ragequit match is an incredibly bad idea when one of those players is going to lose anyway, because people will do it. SSF4 & UMVC3 giving a harsh penalty to ragequitters and no loss/gain for the other guy is decent, but if it’s technically feasible to give a win and a loss, why not go that way? (I don’t know if it is feasible, maybe you could enlighten me a bit…)

What kind of online ranking system is Skullgirls gonna have anyway? An ELO kinda thing like SSF4, some kind of title ranking system, or just a win-loss record? Can you guys talk about that yet?

Yep. It’s Lenny now. Little boys are named George. Of Mice and Men was a good book.

facepalm

I strongly suggest you read about the Occupation of Japan, the Treaty of San Francisco, and Article 9 of the Japanese Constitution. They’re our allies because they kinda have to be.

Moving on, I wonder when we’re going to see more info about Miss Fortune, aside from Mike’s teasing. :stuck_out_tongue:

Check out this in depth Preview I had with Mike (Thanks) Its over 40 mins long I go through everything. Knockdown air recover normal whiffing etc.

i think itd be better if they just show how many wins or maybe something from behind the scenes. you might not get anything from having this great ranked “numbers” but the idea this effort your putting into the game and just seeing the numbers drop makes it hard not to quit. so maybe just show wins or some pretty picture that as you get ranked gets more and more dramatic or cool looking. like a “sticker system” in SF4 where you get cooler and cooler stickers for doing better and staying in the match, but you get nothing if you leave or quit. basically, positive reinforcement keeps them in, negative makes people mad.

can you link me to something that japan did before the way and not something that happened to a country after they loss a war =/ . To the victor goes the spoils not the loser.
