I would hope that the creatives of SG’s would be a little more creative than that.

Very ignorant thing to say. Gannon (at the metagame level) plays NOTHING like Falcon, nothing like him. Fox and Falco are very different. Mario and Luigi are very very different as are Link and Toon Link. To compare them to the clones in SF is insulting. Sometimes I wish fighting games had more clones like Smash clones.

No, they’re clones period.

I don’t care if they don’t play anything alike. It’s still lazy design and a gigantic disappointment.

It’s like doing half the work and not giving a shit what the actual results are going to be like afterwards.

I didn’t compare them to SF clones either, they’re in the same boat.

They’re not very different they’re slightly different. It’s basically splitting hairs then again I don’t see much difference in the majority of the cast. So maybe my view is off.

From a design stand point you can call them clones but on a competitive level the characters each have different impacts on the metagame.

Exactly.

It’s half assed.

No… it’s not “they’re clones period.”

Mario and Luigi in Brawl are nothing like Ken and Ryu in SF 2. Anyone should be far more disppointed in Ken in Ryu rather than Mario and Luigi (or for that matter any of the Brawl clones). If you are a competitive fighting game player, you should really value move sets and play styles more than “oh this move looks pretty/different.”

Yeah it’s just an aesthetic thing really, so whatever. If you’re really into the aesthetics of the game then I can understand being bothered by it.

I value a good character design and I value a playstyle to accompany it.

Luigi is a clone of Mario no matter how differently he plays from him. There was no need for Mario AND Luigi, or Fox, Falco, AND Wolf, or Link and fucking TOON LINK. Are you seriously telling me they couldn’t exert themselves past taking one character and their mechanics and just altering them once or twice more to create more characters? Fuck, why does Ganon even play even anywhere REMOTELY similar to Captain Falcon anyway?

Who plays like Peach? No one does. Who plays Snake? No one does. Who plays like Wario? No one. Who plays like Fox? Falco does except… Oh, is that all? No no, Wolf plays like Fox too, only he …

Come on now.

at least ken and ryu are playable. Mario and Luigi are horrible.

Luigi isn’t horrible. Let’s not forget that Brawl wasn’t designed to be a competitive fighter (although it can be played as one, and is).

Fox, Falco and Wolf playstyles are very different. Honestly. Yoshi and Bowser (Both big heavy character with ground spin moves, ground pound moves, mediocre gimpable recovery, bottom tier, among other similarities) might have more in common than Mario and Luigi. But I’m sure you’d never call them clones.

Any competitive fighting game player should feel that Ken + Ryu are FAR FAR FAR more half-assed than Mario and Luigi. In competitive metagame fighting, what matters is the movesets and the playstyles.

Seriously, comparing Mario and Luigi, or Ness and Lucas to SFII Ken and Ryu is incredibly naive and ignorant.

I will say this about Wolf though: aesthetically and mechanically he’s about 100,000 times more appealing than boring Falco and even more boring Fox. So much so that if I did buy the next Smash game, which I won’t because fuck Smash, it would be because of Wolf’s inclusion.

… i also kinda like Oni. Not the attitude, but the moveset. I’d love him even more if Oni was just drunk Akuma. I AM DEAD SERIOUS: CAPCOM RETCON ONI’S STORY INTO WHAT I JUST SAID.

I’m just gonna say this once: keep that Smash shit out of this thread.

Oh stop taking it so personally, jesus.

Look at my main game, Melty Blood.

That game has gone through close to fifteen different iterations and it’s still clone city. Clone universe even. They play much differently from one another sure, but for fuck sakes they’re still clones of each other. Even when they’ve got three different grooves per character there’s two many of them that play like ‘the original version’ except…

lol

So people can go on about other games but not smash?

@Honor Luigi is pretty bad TBH. There’s a lot of clones in smash and a lot of the characters play a like just slight differences between the roster.

ewwwww smash talk on my skullgirls thread

Haters gonna hate on smash. And I’m not taking it personally, I just think it’s not accurate or fair at all to compare ken and ryu, or melty blood clones to smash clones.

Who said it had to be fair ?

I’m not hating either (I’m the last person on this forum that would ever hate Smash), you are 100% taking it personally and ignoring every point I brought up.

Smash talk in my Skullgirls thread? Why would you do such a thing?

So, Jem and the Hologram color schemes.

LETS MAKE IT HAPPEN
