I’m sure you conld finagle around and make it work (seriously, wine is magic), but I doubt it’ll run as well on mac/linux under Wine vs straight up Windows. I’m still hoping we get a true mac version in the future, though i doubt reverge has the incentive or manpower to do it (damn you small market shares)
I hate having to run Mac. I really do. But I have to for work.
I have a super shitty netbook I use for ggpo, depending on how tasking it is I might be able to un it through that, but I doubt it.
I also can’t BootCamp because I need all that space for work.
A fairly stupid question from someone who’s not sure whether to pick up Skullgirls: would you recommend the game to someone who dislikes combo-heavy games? I’ve never managed to get into any game that’s really reliant on combos, and even something like SF4 Sakura combos get a little too long and dragged out for my tastes, so I don’t know how well this game would agree with me past the casual level (I’ve tried out the demo, of course).
I know the patch will help a little in that department, so I’m reconsidering SG and going for a Peacock team, but need a little bit of encouragement (And money is tight so no gaming impulse buy)
Like any game, I would say it depends on what level you choose to compete at. With a team like Peacock/Double or Peacock/(insert uppercut assist here), a large amount of your neutral game won’t really on using combos at all, just zoning.
However for just about every team you will be introduced to situations where you will want to have a few bnbs (like for Peacock/Double, if Peacock dies, its good to know how to do Double’s relatively easy loops).
SG is fairly combo-heavy, but if you’re gonna play Peacock, it’s not too bad. Her combos are on the shorter side and, if you’re doing a good job of keeping your opponent out, you won’t need to do them all that often.
Skullgirls is pretty combo heavy, whether or not you’re the one doing them, or the person you’re playing is. Girly’s advice is still applicable, there are teams that aren’t as combo dependant, but as someone in a similar situation to you Viridian, I’ve found myself at a disadvantage in many games from not knowing some of the basic meterless BnBs for my characters, because they can get pretty elaborate (When compared to say, 3-5 hit SF4 target xx Special combos).
That being said, I otherwise encourage you the get the game anyway. It’s beautifully animated, demonstrates a great deal of thought and care went into it, and if there was any game where I know I personally decided “now is the time to buck up and really learn how to play these games”, it was playing SG.
To clarify, it’s more watching the other guy goes through the elaborate combo that makes me doze off and zz… crap that was just a reset. I don’t mind it so much when I’m the one inflicting combos on other people, though I’ll still be drawn towards the more zoning oriented characters.
Thanks for your answers I do intend to play the game reasonably well (aka be mediocre), though that’s dependent on whether I can string other local people to pick it up seriously too…
So I was watching some P4A combos of Elizabeth… and I thought that an Elizabeth type of character would be awesome to this game…
Who would you think fits of the rumored DLC?
Also the patch is gonna be live like at the end of this month?.
I’m just gonna be blunt: people who respond to trolls are flat-out retarded.
Seriously, you’re only giving them what they want. Responding to them makes you look like an idiot. You’re not some hero saving the day from some unjust bastard, you’re giving a maladjusted sociopath something to masturbate to while shouting how superior he is to everyone.
In short: DON’T FUCKING DO IT. Report them, add them to your ignore list, and then move on.
Yeah, but then the skin and outfits color options can’t be very creative. If ANY of the two palette options (skin and shirt/pants/dress) are too similar, then naked palettes start to become a reality. So they would, if Mike Z has his way in making that a non-option, end up with just simple skin colors most likely, light, tan, brown, and then those colors would be not available for clothing colors. With official palettes we can play a Scanty/Kneesock Parasoul and maybe even a Hsien-Ko referrence color eventually on someone (Squigly?), and any of the other crazy things that anyone would love to see. That, piled on top of the fact that many wanna-be-creative players who think they are doing something good but have garbage palettes is a much less attractive thought than the official palettes I’ve been seeing so far (60+ of em at the end of the road). I’d much rather get the official colors in a timely fashion than have the developer’s time be diverted making a shallow system that most players would either not use to opt for the more attractive official palettes, use for a limited time before they gave up to use the more attractive official palettes, or force other players to fight against unattractive palettes.
Bought this game off the Marketplace a few months ago but just started getting into playing it online a few days ago. From the few matches I had so far, I’m enjoying it very much for a beginner.
JoJo’s Part V:Vento Aureo done. Two more to go before I’m on the current part.
This shit is good. Quality wise, i’d say it goes 2=5>4>3>1 so far. 4 Also had a really smart MC.
