So I just finished up with Persona 3 Portable…
Holy shit, what an amazing game. Why is Aigis so adorable?

holy shit after finishing an amazing game the only thing that comes to mind is that one of the characters is adorable?

WOWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

C’mon Chibi, cut 'em a break.

I too enjoyed P3, for more than just the adorable-ness of Aigis (Truthfully, I did not find her that adorable)
I’m interested in a fanboyish way to see what the story mode of P4A has in store for the P3 universe, as Mitsuru/Akihiko/Aigis/Elizabeth are all in it and it is apparently canon. Some sort of post FES developments?

I for one always felt a little like FES was salting a wound, so we shall see.

Amazing and adorable don’t go together.

It’s like saying:

‘Man I went to the grand canyon the other day, that shit was amazing. It had the most adorable bunnies!’

No.

…Anyways, I too am excited for P4U’s story mode. Hell, nearly everything about that game seems extremely promising so far.
Only two more weeks… Watching the matches from A-cho isn’t making the wait any easier.

Dude tell me what’s so amazing about Persona.

Unless it’s the social crap, in which case I don’t care :stuck_out_tongue:

The social bit (The part you don’t care about) creates a pretty cool compulsion loop / resource management gameplay that just engages on a different level than most RPGs.

Edit: That’s really only speaking for myself. It’s why I enjoy it so much, but I’m not going to shove it down your throat if its clearly not what interests you.

You would have to type up a pretty long post and rant to sum up the appeals of Persona 3-4 that gives the game justice. I rather not do that besides picking one part i liked and explain why.

I couldn’t tell you. I’m just getting it because new fighting game. Gotta try every series once.
I found this pretty amusing though.

Lol! Like isn’t the whole point of having four buttons being less overwhelming to newer players? Holy crap, just add some buttons if you have this many universal functions.

I always thought that SNK§ is squeezing too much commands in their layouts. Apparently I was oblivious.
It’s yet another reason why I don’t like Arcsys’ games… =[

It’s not.

It’s mediocre - average. There’s just a lack of any good turn-based RPGs in general nowadays, and for some reason people really like shallow dating sims where you date all the girls at the same damn time.

The most annoying thing about Persona is how if you want your fusion to have specfic skills, you can spend a fucking dozen minutes clicking on the guys you want to fuse until the skills carry over. Was it really too much to give us the ability to pick our skills for the fusion? Like 10% of the entire goddamn game is wasted on trying to fuse shit the way you want it fused. And you’d think with all these personas the battle system would be pretty rich and interesting? No, it’s barebones. I got through P4 on Hard from the getgo without grinding (except a bit for the last fight) by just using the skills to lower the attack and defense of the boss and healing myself properly. DDS1 and DDS2 at least forced you to vary up your strategy and sometimes be clever about the way you go around fighting; sure most of the bosses in those games regressed to repeating a simple pattern you have to figure out too, but Persona 4 had nearly the exact same pattern for every boss.

Also the intercharacter development is all shallow and superficial, probably even less than of a typical shounen manga. Everybody “learns” and “grows” a little bit in some aspects, usually by just summarizing to you exactly how they learned and grew (seriously, in a story you do not have development by having the characters explain to you how they developed!), but it’s all insignificant and campy with no compelling dynamics.

Well, as one guy said, one would have to type up a pretty long post and rant, but in this case to describe the entirety of what makes Persona mediocre. I’m not willing to go farther than this point.

Persona 2 is the best, P3 and P4 are okay games.

Hey, I thought persona was a pretty fun game. Sure it’s cheesy and not exactly the most… Well thought out plot, (and some mechanics can die in a fire), but as a whole, i felt it was rather solid. Like… Radiant historia solid (not spectacular but worth mentioning). I think it gets torn up a lot more frequently than it deserves, (then again, i have no sense of its fanbase. I never bothered to see.)

Also @jet set, you have to remember, most people will play on pads, which will have a bunch of button macros to make it easier. Im more worried about how natrual feeling it is to have button shortcuts for universal moves instead of extra motions (aka dragon punches, at least)

Well, consider that the system it originated in only has 4 buttons.

But what’s stopping the Persona 4 Arena crew? Those Nesica cabinets can hold 6 buttons…
