Let me see: it wasn’t in last year’s EVO, and its side tournament was the largest. It went for months with no support, people were playing it online. They released the patch on PSN, people are online even more often. The drive made people curious; in the last couple of weeks I’ve seen the largest influx of new players so far. They signed a deal for a PC release with lobbies. There will be a deal with a Japanese developer to release in Japan. There may be talks of an arcade release.
NO, Skullgirls won’t die. Not right now. Not this year. And that, sir, is not wishful thinking.
(Wishful thinking is wishing that Mike would get paid for the work he put into the first patch for free.)
America gave up on A3 long ago (pre Evo) because at the hi-lvl, it’s basically an anime SF version of Smash Bros.
ST is literally the blueprint of every 2d fighter that came after it. No ST, no Skull Girls. Hey at least y’all got a voting shot. It’s like VF is an invisible game in the USA, even though, uh, I can think of it least two veteran SRK staff who write official guides for it, and competed when it was on the roster before. An influx of new players (I don’t know how you even know this unless you have a personal database of everyone who bought SG) doesn’t mean that they’re all going to be regular players. Also Japan is extremely xenophobic and wary of things that come from America, and XBLA/downloaded games to play online aren’t really their cup of tea, so it’s an uphill battle for SG in Japan if it does get a release there. It’s cute that they’re trying to manufacture more demand, but this might just serve to put the developers in the red even more than they already are.
I suppose the PC version will give it a bit more time to do its thing. But it’s wrong to say that SG isn’t clutching for a lifeline.

It’s just in this ADD ridden ‘ISTHISSHITNEWGIMMEITNOW’ FGC it’s easy to call it dead. No sponsors, no extra pot money, no big names playing it, whatever.
If this game was dead this thread wouldn’t be here. Even if we don’t make up to the 8th spot this game isn’t going to die.

Ah, well now ST and Melee are the Attention now, going back and forth for whoever has the lead
3rd place has its advantages. Hell, Smashboards already forgot about us and focusing on the true threat of ST. The real threat about them is neither Melee or SG Don’t know how much $ they are holding back or what they are planning from Japan. Alot of scenarios can happen tommorow. Both SG and Melee have lurkers looking at each other moves while ST (Japan community anyway) did their shit in secret and made a statement.
Whatever happens tomorrow happens
If ST makes it as the 8th game, then we may get to see the match of the century between UltraDavid and James Chen.

It’s obviously not going to pull Street Fighter 4 numbers, but to make accusations that all of Japan is xenophobic and are skeptical about anything American is as retarded as saying all of America is composed of the Klan.
But whatever, I won’t get any deeper into that. I do hope Skullgirls wins(long shot, at this point), but I’m fine with ST as well.
I hope Mikez got some trick up his sleeve because I feel ST will win over both SG and melee them old men got pay-puh

You do know a Japanese Company is doing the port to PC, right?
I’m OK with ST winning. Can’t go wrong with a 2D sprite based fighting game. And really who would go from 0 to just enough to barely lead? They know they got this.
I’d like to add the possibility that since ST has a fighting chance now, those that were supporting Melee to spite SG will likely support ST now… Though of course that may not mean very much.
Marvelous AQL is just financing Lab Zero. Lab Zero itself will do the port.
To bad it will be early morning here when the drive finishes… I won’t be able to see the final score until way later.
