All playing Roll/Chun Li/Marrow and overcoming their flaws and weakness and limitations does for you is when you do play someone got you get bodied with your crappy Roll CHun Marrow team. Then afterwards you’ll rage because you know the guy beat you because he’s playing MSP and that you only lost because your team blows. As opposed to taking the same work and effort you would in a low tier and putting it into a top tier character.

Im staying up for this. … The pre show is making me a bit ravenous.

If you pick a low tier team and lose to a high tier one, then you have nobody to blame but yourself, you made the decision to pick those characters, and you deal with the consequences.

Actually, I think if you rage over losing at a video game, you’re doing something wrong anyway.

What I’m saying, is that in order to be good, you pretty much need two things. You need to be good at your character, but you also need to be a good player. You can improve the latter with any character, in any game. Because fundamentals of strategy and reading are pretty universal. And in my opinion, learning the latter is way harder, and takes way more time then the former, regardless of game.

I’m not saying you HAVE to play a low tier in order to get better, I’m just saying there is nothing wrong with it, and it will neither hurt your play, nor waste your time. Especially if you *enjoy *those characters. You will undoubtedly have to work several times harder then your opponent to scrape together a win, but if you really really find the character you’re using fun and unique, then I’d say go for it. Mvc2 is undoubtedly the best when god tiers are being played, but it’s still an all around amazing game even in low tier tourneys. In my oppinion

Marvel 2 with god tiers > Marvel 2 without god tiers > every other marvel game > everything

No SG on stream. ) :

A person who decently plays Roll/Chun/Marrow would have an easier time transitioning to a better character and would be better than someone who played higher tier all day. Simple reason is because High Tier usually has easier execution, more damage, and tools. For example since I played Shuma from day one in MVC3 and his combos were insane, when I jumped over to Magneto I was like “Seriously? this is all I have to do for ROM loops? Pshaw baby shit”. Oh fuck I have a tridash and flight? Shit yeah.

The low tier/high tier skill argument is comparable to sprinter/distance conversion in Track.
It’s usually easier for a sprinter to become a great distance runner because they already have the proper form and technique for most efficient running. All they have to do is work on endurance. It’s harder for a distance runner to be a great sprinter because they are used to just running any old way and relying on pure endurance to beat opponents. They don’t have efficient form or technique so when the races aren’t about pure distance they can’t really compete very well.

Oh God no skull girls. I cant stay up for this. :frowning:

yeah man mvc2 mag and sent and iron man all totally have such easy execution compared to roll!!!

People are still reading Mystic Ray’s posts past the first sentence?

Calm down everyone. Why is it that the same topics keep getting brought up over and over again and then everyone starts calling each other a fag or a moron? Shit is getting redonkulous. Let’s just all agree that Skullgirls is the bee’s knees.

All I have to say Mystic is the execution barrier is much different in Marvel 2 than 3, so they aren’t comparable.

No SG on stream then? Oh well, I’m going to bed.
Hoping for dat Painwheel dev video soon, insted

You’re not even TRYING to make sense, are you? Please tell me this was intended to be a troll.

By playing lower tier characters you:

  1. Are playing characters because you think they’re cool or like the character design.
  2. Are trying to make a point.

Neither of these will help your execution. Players with the same execution using higher tier characters will destroy you. That’s sort of the DEFINITION of a tier list.

You seem to be confusing “having tools” with “no need for execution”. Having all the tools won’t help if you don’t have the execution to pull them off. Shuma in MvC3 has some tools but not as many as Magneto. Once you switch to a character with tools, you suddenly see WHY they’re top tier. But I assure you someone who played Magneto from day 1 while you were playing Shuma will likely destroy your Magneto solely on the fact that their experience with the character is a lot more than yours, or that their team has already been optimized to benefit him the most, while you are stuck wondering which characters you should now practice so as to put in your team so the assists will best benefit Magneto.

No Skullgirls for me means Dead Space 2 I guess…

In fairness the MvC3 tiers do seem to be determined to a significant extent by how easy mode the character is, so I can understand the misconception.

Well, the top tier characters require less EFFORT, but not necessarily less EXECUTION. That’s where the confusion comes in.

The God tiers in Mvc2 require just as much execution as anyone. And just as much strategy, and just as much reflexes. They simply have tactics and abilities that shut down other characters in a hard counter fasion, or at the very least, destroy much faster with only the slightest mistakes to be made on the low tier side in order to win. That’s why, if I picked a low or mid tier character and lost, I would acknowledge that it was my fault for picking the character, seeing as how in order to win I would have to mix up 3 times as well, block 3 times as well, play footsies 3 times as well, and make 3 times less mistakes all around.

That doesn’t mean I wouldn’t pick a low tier, just because some of them are really really fun.

Also, MysticRay. I think the problem is that you’re talking about execution, which is fairly uniform across the board in Mvc2, while I’m talking about strategy.
edit
Yeah Guitaralex beat me to this one.

Talking about MvC2 and execution and no one posted the Sentinel fly/unfly stuff or Josh’s vids of doing Iron Man stuff with his hands shown?

SRK is slipping.

MvC2 requires more execution I can do and I do demons under 10 frames in jojo’s(it prevents push block).
