Again, I will state how much I hate you guys. -40 with 2 feet of snow. Thanks nature. Thanks a lot.
yeah its so damn cold here now. I went on a x-mas vacation to LA and got a new SK8MAFIA deck. never really used it yet since its so cold. ill end up bustin some tres at a local park in friday.
i had started skatin’ one day and my mum’s always like, trying to protect me, it was like the only thing i got into that involves physical stuff, she told me to stop with so much danger with it, i bought pads, and she said:
‘What about your bloody back!? your ganna brake dat shit!’
so now i’m packing fat playing street ifghter all day, shame on her if i get fat, But i do Tae Kwon Do sometimes, and play loads of football/Soccer because it makes me laugh, so i guess it’s cool.
Plus i’m Fourteen, ‘The Age Of Puberty!’ you tend to get lazy if you don’t do crap.
also, i don’t hate my mum, sometimes but most of the times i thank her for taking care, so, don’t get the wrong idea.lol
Oh shit a complete for 85 bux?Was that the price shipped?
What do you skate, and with the completes did they give you any stock parts and if they did,did the stock stuff work good?
Oh and it would be appreciated if you could put Mike Mo’s part back up
Oh and in extension can someone tell me which to buy?
I’m thinking of either Enjoi,Zoo-York,Plan B,or Alien Workshop for a first board.
Can someone give me a rundown of those boards?
Come spring!
only one of those i have experience with is enjoi (i’m a zero or blank man myself). it seemed to be pretty sturdy but it was heavy and wore down pretty easily. not as much pop as i would have liked. but not bad as a beginner board. i would stay away from element and black label though. i’ve gotten two of each and they all broke within a few days.
thats fucking awesome man.
That doesn’t sound too bad.Something especially sturdy would be great for a beginner.
And that sounds real disappointing about the other 2.As a matter of fact on the whole I haven’t heard too many good thing’s about Element.I don’t know if it’s because of Bam,or just because the boards suck, but yeah.
Man, for me, every single skateboard feels the same. Once you get around the shape, you pretty much have the same thing, made by the same manufacturers. Basically, the extra price of the premium boards/pro models is the money going (supposedly) to the pro, who gets incentives for board sales. Some boards ARE different, like if you buy an old shape/pool board, a long board, or an element board with specifically noted construction. If its just wood, go with a graphic you like, because as far as I can tell from my experience, they are all the same.
The way most boards are made, 5 to 10 decks can be pressed at a time, which means the ones in the center don’t get the same concave as the ones on the top and the bottom. So you can buy a Zero (just an example, not sure which manufacturer they use) board and your friend buys a zero board, his board feels kinda iffy and the tail isn’t as steep as yours, but you are fine. Same graphic and everything, but they don’t match perfectly. See what I’m saying?
Another thing that gets me is these boards that have extra padding around the mounting holes for high-impact landing. who the fuck has broken a board from PRESSURE CRACKS? yeah I mean I get cracks on my bolts if my board is long in the tooth, but most people I have seen (a lot of people) break their board in the center, or at the nose or tail. not at the bolts. Who the fuck are you, Lindsay Goddamn Robertson?
WAIT I take that back.
I forgot about the chinese shit. I’ll go into detail about that in a minute, but basically boards that are made in china and not in NA are typically shitty as fuck. And cheap. Don’t buy it.
BRB!
Thanks for the break down.
So basically it’s a crap shoot for getting a good board is what you are saying?
Hey, just started skating and I want some advice on shoes. Do chucks or nikes work okay for it? I’ve been tearing up my vans slip ons and its been hurting trying to ollie.
Not exactly. Most of them are ‘good’, You just have to stand on it with skate shoes to feel the concave. After you’ve been skating a good while you can really start to pick your boards that way. I know I always tend to skate Alien Workshop boads, because I know they have a specific shape and ‘pop’. But you gotta stand on it. I know I have a hard time scooping the tail for like a 360 flip or something if I have a board with a square tail.
Basically, if you care about this aspect of the industry, what you want to get is a board made of Canadian or American Rock Hard maple. Most manufacturers that use this, proudly stamp their boards with this on the top, where you would put the griptape. A couple of years ago companies like alien workshop/habitat put out ads about buying north american wood, not buying chinese, but they are making less of a stink about it, and some companies are even switching to chinese wood for their pricepoint (budget) models of their boards. Some companies still buy the NA wood, and ship it to china for manufacturing. kinda self defeating, but whatever.
I saw Paul Schmitt speaking at the surf expo in orlando about the importance of keeping business here in the states. He even had a shop setup after his seminar where you could press and make your own boards, this guy is serious business.
Check out his site:

You can skate in some Dr Martin monkey boots if you wanted to, just make sure you have something to come between your pinky toe and the grip tape. You don’t have to go out and buy Nike SBs or anything like that. The important thing to remember is that if you are going to ollie or do anything based on an ollie, make sure you cover up your ‘ollie spot’. Judging by your description or your vans, you probably already know where that spot is. I know they used to sell stuff called ‘ollie armor’, some people just cover their shoes with duct tape or shoe goo. Whatever works best for you. You can get cheap skate shoes at target for like 15 bucks or something though.
That’s really cool.
So it would be better to get an American made board.Suddenly that Alien board sounds a lot more sexy.
Plus Alien Workshops are the fucking shit. I try to get other brands, but I just keep coming back. Favorite shapes in the world.
Alien workshop is the only one of those brands I’ve actually owned and I liked it alot. It’s more of a heavy, sturdy kind of thing with nice pop.
About the whole “all boards being the same” thing, it’s like all the brands made by one distributor are generally the same. But there are still different distributors competing with each other. World Indistries, Enjoi, and Almost, for instance, are all made in the same building. The money just goes to different pockets. They are also very adimant about outscourcing their shit, and don’t even try to hide it. Alien Workshop, Seek (if they are still around), and habitat are from a different distributor.
Alien Workshops are some of the most durable boards when it comes to design
So Alien Workshops it is then.
So in the case of World Industries,Enjoi, and Almost since they all come from the same factory there probably isn’t much of a difference between them?
What’s your setup?
