Skateboarding: Kick Push and Fall

Dammit, I’m out mowing my yard today, I guess I should be happy this is skate weather where I am. But it was fucking raining by the time I finished, so yeah, I got that problem too.

Id love to go there…

My Kid Landed A Kickflip Today…

I have a 3 year-old son, I think some of you people already know that. He has a mild type of autism, which makes him really focused on one specific thing. If he can do it/have it/whatever, he is cool, but if he can’t have something he wants or do something he wants he is absolutely DEAD SET on doing whatever it is he needs to do to get it.

Sometimes, when we are hanging out before dinner or whatever, he likes to play with this hot wheels skateboard ramp thing he got for christmas. So, we sit in front of the TV and play skateboards and watch skate videos for a little while. Well, the other day, (out of nowhere during this time period before dinner) He grabs this tech deck of mine that I had sitting on my desk. he looks at it for a minute, and says “lets skate”. I was happy that he said that, because he can’t talk much, but I was like, “maybe after dinner”. Anyway, he put the tech deck on the floor and put both of his feet on it. I was like “no no that is not real, don’t break it!” but he hopped up, and the board came with him, and it fukkin flipped just like a kickflip, and he landed on it. Son of a bitch. My kid just fucking kickflipped a tech deck. I gave him ice cream after dinner for that. He tried again a few times after that, and eventually broke it, but I didn’t care.

Well, the next day, we were out skating on the back porch. I took his little $10 Target skateboard and did some kind of tic tac or something, just making sure it was good to go. He looked at me an jumped, like he wanted to do a kickflip, so I was like “go for it”. He spent 2 hours, no lie, trying to kickflip a no-concave, no nose, no real griptape having Target brand skateboard. He was getting really close, but just couldn’t do it. he was standing on the doormat so the board wouldn’t roll, it was a trip. but I told him we had to go inside, becuase it was getting dark, and he fucking flipped out. Screaming, “SKATEBOARD, SKATEBOARD, DADDY NO!! SKATEBOARD!!”

Well, ok. I told him to take it off the mat, and I threw the mat out of the way. I said DO A KICKFLIP. You know what he did? He did a damn KICKFLIP. clean. well, he didn’t catch it, but it was probably the best kickflip you will ever see on a skateboard like this. And after he did it, he went to brush his teeth, I didn’t even tell him to, like I always do. He got himself ready for bed, and told me “night night” and handed me a book. As far as parenting is concerned, today is one of those awesome days.

I’m going to try to make a video of it and post it up, I gotta find a video camera first though.

that is awesoooome
seriously.
your child has dedication.

Yeah, its kind of hard to deal with. But this instance was really awesome to me.

Damn! I didn’t even know this thread was here:

Deck: Flamingo’s shop blank, but I prefer Baker
Trucks: Krux Polka Dots
Wheels: Always Ricta
Bearings: Reds
Shoes: DCs

I’ve been skating since I was 16 (22 now) but I was raised in northern Michigan where you can skate litteraly three months of the year. Now I live by an indoor park but I’ve been taking a break for the last year or so. I learn shit really slow and it gets frustrating.

Anyone here have footage of themselves?

i’ll see if i can dig up some old footage of me. going to try and work on a freestyle vid come spring/summer.

Now this is so damn cool. I do behavior management for autistic children and totally understand their “need” to do something. Thanks for sharing man, sounds like you are doing great! It’s also good to hear that he isn’t just hooked on video games. It seems like video games have become the new pacifier for the parents of the children I work with

Nah, believe it or not I only let my kids around videogames once a week, sunday afternoons. And it’s hard to even get my son interested, anyway. My daughter on the otherhand, gets obsessed with mario.

Thanks for the kind words. Do many autistic kids get into video games?

How long you guys been skating?

man, you would not believe the amt that are. I know it sounds mean but I used to joke around about starting a WoW gold farming gig with them due to the way they can just sit and do nothing. (BTW, no harm intended by that statement I’ve worked in the field for 14 years and love my clients to death.) I had one kid I was in awe of. He would play Mario64 with one hand on the N64 stick and OWN levels. The pad would sit on the floor and he’d manipulate it with one hand. course this same kid made me fest on the spongebob game with at 4am after he had gone to bed a 2am. Some of them sleep like Navy seals I swear.

But anyway, to stay on topic I’ve skated since I was 12 so I’ve been at it for 21 years now. Don’t try half the shit I used to but I’ll never quit(unless I’m in a wheelchair or usin a walker or some shit). Like I said earlier in the thread, it gets into you and you can’t shake it. I still get chills when I hear skateboard wheels on bricks. oh well, spring is almost here time for a new set up.
