Vanquish
Dark Souls PTD
Bayonetta
Metal Gear Rising
Uncharted 2
UMVC3
Assassin’s Creed 2
The Walking Dead
Resonance of Fate
Resistance: Fall of Man
I only have a top 3:
- Gran Turismo 6.
- Gran Turismo 5.
- Street Fighter IV.
No Metal Gear Solid 4? really? it’s even better than the majority of ps4/xbone games.
These are the games I couldn’t put down:
Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess Wii
Super Mario Galaxy Wii
Heavy Rain PS3
Uncharted 2 PS3
Orange Box (Portal and Half Life 2 Episode 2) Xbox360
999 series (9 hours 9 persons 9 doors) DS
999 series Zero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward 3DS (Counting these at two separate games since they aren’t too closely linked)
Phoenix Wright 1-3 Series (Ace attorney, Justice for All, Trials and Tribulations) DS
Legend of Zelda: A Link Between worlds 3DS
Honorable Mention:
Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 4 wii and HD…this game stands the test of time.
Metal Gear Solid 4: Don’t remember much
Ninja Gaiden 2 / Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 depending on the day.
Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge
Path of Exile(the #1 isometric action RPG on the market today.)
Rise of the Triad 2013 for being the only modern FPS to truly capture the feel of oldschool, cocaine-fueled FPS games of the 90’s.
Demon’s Souls
Dark Souls
Dark Souls II
Dragon’s Dogma
Dead Rising 2 / Off the Record
Super Stardust: HD
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow
Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin
Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia
Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles
Contra 4
Dead Space 1
Yakuza 3 & 4
RAGE. If the campaign was more focused like older id games instead of the psuedo-open world game that it was, it would have been way better. Still, its gunplay was awesome.
Battlefield: Bad Company 1, 2, BF3 and BF4. Each have a multiplayer component you can sink 100’s of hours into. BFBC1, 2 and BF4 had good campaigns too, though I haven’t beaten BF3’s campaign.
Resistance 2(OK campaign, amazing multiplayer)
Resistance 3(FUCKING AMAZING campaign and OK multiplayer)
Killzone 2(amazing campaign and multiplayer)
Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood(amazing campaign and multiplayer)
Syndicate
Wolfenstein: 2008
Wolfenstein: The New Order
The Darkness II
X-Men Origins: Wolverine(putting this here because it’s a rare example of a movie tie-in game being good, as well as the fact that it’s a really solid action hack n’ slash game on its own.)
Bayonetta
DMC4
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II(best Star Wars game last-gen imo, and a really good action hack and slash on its own)
Vanquish(one of the better games from Platinum, because Shinji helped develop it.)
Warhammer: Space Marine(one of the best TPS I’ve played last-gen next to Vanquish.)
Shadows of the Damned
The Evil Within(routinely on sale for $20 on any platform, you should play it. It’s great. I still think about playing it again, the gameplay mechanics are amazing.)
No More Heroes: Heroes Paradise
Killer is Dead
Midnight Club: LA(one of my favorite racers from last-gen.)
BioShock 1
Section 8: Prejudice
Nier for having one of the most memorable stories and characters out of any game I played last-gen. The game filled me with feels.
Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing. I don’t like the sequel nearly as much.
Yes, I realize that’s way more than 10. I could keep going, too. Last-gen was pretty awesome and I’m still playing games from that era. B)
Shoutouts to re-released classics from earlier generations(DOOM 3: BFG, DMC collection, MGS collection, Ninja Gaiden: Sigma, etc.)
Most overrated games I played last-gen:
Fallout 3: bugs and glitches edition
Skyrim: no enemy reactions and / or hitstun edition
Red Dead Fetch Quests
Uncharted 2
Metal Gear Rising(game is 6-7/10 at best. Dat blind Platinum* love.)
Most disappointing games I played last-gen for me personally because of reasons+history with the franchises+publishers I think are fucking up:****
Diablo 3. Everything that made Diablo 2 what it was was either removed, dumbed down or half-assedly replaced with worse mechanics/systems.
SFIV
DmC(Po still cries over this one.)
Vanilla Ninja Gaiden III(I was crying over this one until Razor’s Edge released.)
Killzone 3. Literally took everything that made KZ2 amazing, shit on it, then molded the shit to look and play like Call of Duty.
Square Enix in general. Their games don’t appeal to me anymore, the direction they’ve taken since and including FFX has been garbage.
Konami should have had more of a presence last-gen. They’re sleeping on too many good IP’s. They’re home to some of my favorite series of games. I’m worried about Castlevania, and I hate how they announced a new Contra game then nothing came of it(or it ended up being some shitty iphone game IIRC.)
Yep. PS3 is still getting **exclusives **in 2015.
Mgs4 sucked lol
Didn’t you just buy the game last week? Did you even beat it once? Not that you can put a specific time stamp on something so subjective as its your personal list, but doesn’t it make sense to wait a little while and remove yourself from the “hype” of a new game to see how you really feel about it before declaring it best of anything? Well whatever, as Vynce said always room for edits if need be. Glad you enjoyed it that much, but why ignore all of us asking for updates on your playthrough?
Hmmm so how do we really define what generation a game is in then? lol with the growth of digital sales and retro-modern games the splits in generations gets muddier
Sonicabid:
Off the top of my head and in no order:
Dark Souls
Contra 4
Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia
Dead Space 1
Dead Space 2
Mass Effect 1
Mass Effect 2
Hotline Miami
Condemned 2: Bloodshot
Condemned: Criminal Origins
Oh and Po remember when you asked if I could name 100 games from last gen that are better than Vanquish? Well IGN came close putting it at 95:
I don’t play much but here’s mine
Arkham City
Tomb Raider 2013
Bayonetta
Tekken Tag Tournament 2
Borderlands 2
Marvel Ultimate Alliance
Sf2 HD remix
Ducktales HD remix
Transformers: Fall of Cybertron
KOF 13
That would make much more sense…
I’m too lazy to make a list but I am glad to see Vanquish getting so much love. Great fucking game, would be Platinums best if not for Bayonetta.
Haven’t got to play Bayo 2 yet.
I’m glad to see HD remix getting some love. @ yer faces
Lots of blurry lines with so many HD remasters, generational overlap releases, and digital only content, not to mention DS games. If I had to pick a single favorite, it would easily be Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen. Beyond that, I really enjoyed the following (leaving out HD remasters/compilations/digital re-releases):
Arkham City
Vanquish
DMC4
Contra 4
Hard Corps: Uprising
DoDonpachi Ressurection (not sure if this technically fits my criteria, but fuck it)
Bayonetta
KOF 13
RE: Revelations
Metroid Prime 3
In hindsight, it was a really good gen, despite the collapse of much of what made it good. Tons of fighters, a huge amount of quality digital releases, good collections, and more good all new releases than I give it credit for at first glance.
I doubt you’ve even played DS , you just put it at the top of the list to look cool in here. That’s my guess.
But… Since it is at the top of your list…I have randomly generated a couple of questions that you (as the hardcore DS fan you are)
should be able to answer with relative ease.
a) What do you have to do before traversing the abyss in Dark Souls?
b) What type of enemies do you encounter just before the fight with Seath?
c) What items does Solaire give you at the beginning of the game?
No point using Google , take your time though.
Wii Sports
NSMB Wii
SF4
DKCR
Red Dead Redemption
Ni No Kuni
Skyward Sword
SSX
Super Mario Galaxy
Mario Kart Wii
In no order:
UMVC3
CoD: MW2
Halo 3
DQ IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies
FFTA2: Grimiore of the Rift
Dragon’s Crown
Resident Evil 5 (co-op, fuck single player)
I can’t think of anymore worth mentioning that I played, I spent most of the last gen playing games from the PS1, PS2, and SNES that I never got the chance to play. If we’re including ports, I would include Shadow of the Collosus, Ico, and DMC3. Honorable mentions would be Silent Hill 2 and 3, if the HD collection wasn’t a shitty glitch fest that freezes >.>
I think I would go for…
Peace Walker/MGS3 HD
Valkyrie Chronicles
Skyrim
Dragons Dogma
Ass Creed 3
Yakuza 4 (and probably 5 when its released later this year)
And thats all I got, am too cynical to have much shit make a lasting impression on me.
Here is my top of the generation:
Street Fighter 4
Super Street Fighter 4
Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition
Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition v.2012
Ultra Street Fighter 4
In no order
Tales of Vesperia
Mass Effect
Call of Duty 4
Bayonetta
MGR
Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (Oh mi gawd elder scrolls is so pleb tier! Fuck you phaeggot I dont care)
F.E.A.R.
GTA4: The Ballad of Gay Tony. I’d like GTA5 more if we didnt get fucked over with heists. Too salty.
Alan Wake
Dead Space
I left out Half-Life 2 because it’s a given.
Yakuza 3
Yakuza 4
Initial D
