Sim thread

In jap honda vs sim matches, I very rarely see Honda doing buttslam, why is that? In this vid, Kusumondo only does one, and that is for him to escape

How do you punish the slam even if it whiffs in front of you? It seems even if you get in a free hit it’s worth it for Honda because he has closed the distance.

Thx

Honda needs to be very careful with trying the Naked (buttslam, Superman, whatever you want to call it). When he does it from far away, he lands harmlessly in front of Dhalsim, and this is almost always punishable. Good players are fast enough to consistently bobble him out of the air and then reset their zone with an immediate follow-up fireball or whatever. This is why Hondas don’t typically try this in high-level matches – it just doesn’t work.

If he’s doing it from very far away, you can reach him all the way out to full-screen distance with s.far LP. That is the idiot-proof choice, because Dhalsim’s extended arm doesn’t have any hittable areas at all. If you’re willing to take more risk, moves like s.far MK and s.far HK will do more damage – just make sure you time them right and hit the upper part of Honda’s body as he’s falling down. If you screw it up, he will squash your limb.

From ~3/4 screen, he’s still going to land in front of you, but he’s going to fall very close to your body. I think a good option here is to karate-chop his ass out of the air with s.close LP and then follow with an immediate HP fireball. It will be on top of him as he recovers from being bobbled out of the air. He’ll probably have to block it, take chip damage, and get pushed away. His only other option is to do a second immediate, reversal buttslam right as he lands, to soar through this fireball. But even here, you’ll still recover in time to be safe (with something like jumpback HP). Another good option from this range, if he’s falling in tight and too close for comfort, is the cr.close LP.

From close up, 1/2 screen and in, is really where the move starts to get dangerous, because he’ll be coming down on top of your head. There was a discussion on this topic in this thread a few pages back.

You don’t really have an easy answer to this (that I’m aware of). Something like s.close MP can work from the right range if you have great anticipation or just ridiculous reflexes, or you can try to teleport away.

The good news is that, unless you get cornered, it’s hard for Honda to get that close to you and still hold a down-charge. I believe this is actually one of your strategic goals when you’re zoning him out, to not let him sit still in that half-screen distance, because that means his down-charge will be filled soon.

If you look at the video you linked, Kusumondo only tries the move twice. Of course, both attempts were from close range; he knows Gian can just dice up any attempts from farther out.

The first was the wake-up Naked at which was a complete disaster for him.

The second is at , when he was able to sneak past the zone. Gian happened to be in the right place at the right time and hit him with the jumpback HP. He couldn’t have jumped back on reaction here; he just decided to go for it at that moment, possibly because he was positionally uncomfortable sitting that close to Honda for more than a split-second.

Thanks a lot for the sublime response

Hi. Can you please tell me how you calculated this?

Many thanks,

dhalsim vs vega and chunli?

i think they are the hardest to beat… any tips?

Sure, bother to read through the rest of the thread.

claw can’t escape noogie loops if done correctly.

Does Sim has anything against boxers cr.mp? It seems to beat both cr.mp, mp and fierce.

I qulified for evo 07. By noogie trapping Ibitzan’s Claw. Granted he is a VF player. But, I did it none the less. I sent Jason Nelson to losers braket @ EVO 08 with a noogie trap on his claw as well.

sorry, but isn’t claw can short flipkick sim out of the trap?

But then he can’t wiggle out of the noogie and thus tells the Sim player what he’s going to do…

Sure you can back flip/ flip kick out of traps. But, it doesn’t mean it easy.

In the Claw trap, the flip kick can work, but it depends on when you do it. Most ppl, smash to get out of a noogie. During that time they are not charging for the Flip kick.

Therefor, I can follow up with a meaty drill > short slide. If they hold the charge and try to punish the slide, I go right under them and grab them with a noogie when they land.

If short slide hits- or- misses, it pushes me out of their throw range and I can get a noogie without the fear of a counter throwing.

Now they can flip kick the noogie attempt after the slide, but the timing is very strict. Most ppl mash for a back flip, which has a fair chance of coming out. However, I can see if my throw misses, and hit them with a Standing Fierce/ Feirce FireBall in the middle of the flip.

It is a strong trap, not any better or worse than other grab traps. Two rounds of grabs will = ~50% life. Considering Sim’s low ability to do large amounts of damage, it is a great option versus Claw.

thx, i hope sim is no.1 in the game… but claw and chun are damn hard to beat with sim.

btw, which option is the best after noogie? short slide, rh drill, close strong or close low jab???

It depends on the character you are playing against, the play style of the opponent, and the opponents abilities.

I know this thread doesn’t get much love anymore but I’ve been putting together a huuuuuge compendium of VST Sim info that I’m finally getting around to editing if anyone would be interested in me posting it.

Post it. :wow:

Right-O. I should have it all in post format by the end of the weekend/Monday. (A lot of editing to do)

edit: Holy shit, this may take a bit longer than I was hoping to sort out. Expect it sometime this week.

I finally got ST Dhalsim section up at streetfighterdojo.com.

Match footage of top players + combos/tricks

Enjoy!

Excellent compilation of data. I just want to point out that under the vs Dee Jay section, the #1 and #3 match footage is the same. This is because Hakase is Doctor.
