Get rid of that awful, awful, ‘font’ Quiche, it absolutely kills the entire banner.
Put another font in its place, one that mimics Japanese lettering, and don’t animate the font. Leave that to the background.

Quiche: I’m sorry I haven’t responded to the PM yet. I had reformated the thumbstick and i didn’t put old works back on it. Just new stuff.
I’ll get back to showing you some of my old stuff soon though.
As for your banner, Chibi is right. The font doesnt look good animated, i mean it’s clean and all that, it just lacks appeal i think. Like he said Japanese lettering would be dope, but I think maybe some slash marks as the font would look pretty cool too.
Did you animate the background? If so nicely done.
What you should do for next time though is try and experiment making your own background. I know that the most popular beginner way of creating backgrounds is to use the filters>clouds or filters>clouds>difference clouds. It’s played out, but it IS a start. The point of that though is to edit and manipulate it to the point of making the filter disappear. I’ve seen some work where people just use those grey ass clouds and leave it as that and call it a toptier bg when it’s not.
Also, I suggest making some brushes from random landscape pictures and pieces of photographs. Desaturate them, then use Adjustments>Levels and play with that. Then use the marquee tool to make the desired shape and from there goto Edit>Create brush. Once you use the brush tool, in the upper right of the main photoshop outlook there’s a tab titled Brush and you can adjust that. Then go from there.
Experiment.

Also, I noticed that the lower right corner sticks out funny, and the wrong bamboo piece is in front. Gonna fix that as well.

EDIT: BTW, the font in there was inspired by the Sam Sho V logo (though I only have the stock PS fonts, lol) And no, Slide, I didn’t animate those lights. I did however animate the subtle lighting shifts on the characters themselves as the lamps pulse.

Redid the font, changed the border on the lower right corner so the correct bamboo overlaps, lightened up yoshi’s far-right sword.

Brushes -> shape dynamics -> size litter, fade, screw around with minimum diameter. I don’t know how the result is with a mouse though. Im on my phone so i cant comment sorry

Green bamboo border with the flat, plain red color to the font hurts the whole banner. Specifically the red font. Add something to distinct it from the background a bit, it’s blended awfully.
The red matches the forum’s color scheme so it actually works out (somewhat) that way.

Yeah, I went with the red because the forum skin is in all-red tones.

I liked the old font…the original banner looked great. I don’t like the new font, even after I see it against the forums (red) default color.
What if Guardcrush.net adds other skins (which most forums do eventually) with colors other than red…then what?
Leave well enough alone.
