Shibuya Kaikan Monaco to close on August 18th, 2013

I’m still wating for those pics

I’m onto it.

Here’s a recording of the final day… Seems like everyone really respected the owners and loved this arcade

sad

Good riddance, looked like a shithole.

Now press that flag button you pansies.

The best arcades are almost always shitholes though…

…where is this idea that people don’t shittalk in arcades coming from?

tons of shittalk at my local arcade and at the local meetups.

half the sf4 players get flustered by the shittalk of the older players,

which is funny because I started playing way after the sf4 players and i dish out shittalk like mad.

its part of the fun.

Not that arcades don’t have shit talk but that people might think a little more before saying some of the ridiculas things that’re communicated by many online players. It changes the flavor of talk because sooner or later you might say some rudeness to the wrong guy. Less racism for example.

Ryan, what is arcade shit talk like in Japan? Is salt the same around the world?

According to the Japanese players in my area, the state of smack talk in Japanese arcades is way worse than they have ever seen in NA.

SF4 players really brought forth a negative attitude towards smack talk, which is why I call them Facebook fighters and Super Friends. They don’t understand true competitive drive and the value of the highest level of competition available (otherwise they wouldn’t be playing SF4).

The “accessibility” craze of the 09er games has made the majority of players look for “fun with friends” rather than competition against rivals.

Personally, I believe smack talk is integral to the growth of individuals’ skill. Being confined in a P.C., compromising environment is detrimental to the fueling of the competitive fire inside your heart, which has many times pushed me to refine my skills. I also believe that this “super friend” mindset is why we see anti-competitive games in tournaments; nobody has the gall to stand up for games that aren’t accepted or played by the majority, and so the compromisers play games like UMvC3, SF4, and Persona in tournaments rather than MvC2, 3s and CvS2.

It’s a rough day and age to be looking for real competition, because as soon as you lay some smack talk to encourage growth in other players (something I’ve done and have seen successfully work many times), most players nowadays will shun away from playing the good games you may be promoting all because their precious feelings were hurt.

All I know is I know what works to create better players, and I won’t stop doing it. If people lack a backbone to be scoffed at and zinged when I beat them with my 5th best character while carrying out a conversation with someone who isn’t playing, they can go take a walk and play SF4.

How Christian-like of you. ψ(`∇´)ψ

I’m pretty sure you have no idea what “Christian-like” even begins to mean, so ill just mark you off as a typical atheist troll who is desperate for attention, and has no idea what he’s talking about.

nah man, in all seriousness, I don’t think it’s good to smack talk players while playing who aren’t your friends.

Also smack talk has nothing to do with new players playing newer games and not older games lol

Just stating my opinion, I have no interest in discussing it any further

Anyway, this thread is about shibuya kaikan not etiquette.

RIP shibuya kaikan. It was a fun arcade.

If you’d like clarification on my method of smack talking, you should ask.

Like I mentioned, smack talk is suitable for lighting the flame of competition in your rival’s heart. Normally, it’s preferable to know the person before saying things like “stop trying to hit me and hit me” in a Morpheus voice while destroying them, or making light of how they lost to my Sean, and rubbing it in.

Did I say be MALICIOUS? No. I said zingers, and i meant things that will resonate with the player and make them try harder next time they play you.

Even going as far as telling someone they “will never beat me” is suitable, and usually brings up things like money matches, which is very helpful for growth in play.

Smack talk should be confined to the game, and never be malicious or implicative of anything about the person. That would be malicious.

Smack talking properly to grow your scene is a science that has been lost in the advent of 09er, consumer compromising games. Now smack talk in all forms is seen as malicious because people have lost competitive drive, and have become accustomed to being “super friends” with everyone in the FGC. Even talking about East coast vs West coast nowadays is frowned upon.

Give me a break.

Just flag the preacher boy for trolling and slap on a good Atheist quote and move on.

“Faith is not wanting to know what is true.”

Nietzsche.

This thread is about Kaikan not about shit talking. Ive been playing this game for like 10 years. I’m over that child’s play. Ill just win.

well i guess the other arcades in shibuya will have a few more players now right?
some sort of positive i guess for the remaining places.

No more Shibuya arcades with 3rd Strike. :frowning:

Everyone please move any further non Kaikan talk to the general thread or start a new one on the topic that deviated this thread.

So Ryan, what will all the 3s players do now? Is it really far to the closest arcade with cabs and comp?

some memories of shibuya kaikan.

playing there with Jon since Ryan hadnt rrived yet and not knowing where the other spots were. Turns out shibuya sports land (THE spot on Tuesdays? was across the street!)

thinking why am I getting wins (turns out level wasn’t that high)

Being drunk thinking id play a sick q (didn’t work out)

gene wong losing his chrome hearts ring and asking one of the employees if they had found it (of course it went MIA)

watching bas and tsukunosuke play cvs2!

Meeting Kim and him thinking we were the American sbo team (level of play was low!)

I don’t know but kaikan wasn’t a hot spot for 3s. There was no reason for me to get wins in back in 09 lol. it was a convenient arcade for 3s since there were always players. At least this was at the time. sounds like some good players like iyan, zabi, oryu, ryan, etc would go there to get their fix of 3s.
