We don’t know if the game will be available at retail when it releases , so if you do indeed want a physical copy… Pledge !
Better safe than sorry , etc.
I guess there is a slight chance that physical will only be for backers and that digital is for everyone who wants to buy
the game upon release.
Hideki Okamura, who was the President and COO of Sega until recently was asked about the nature of collaborations between them and the developers of the upcoming Shenmue title. In his reply, Okamura said:
*"Shenmue is of course an important IP, not only to Sega, but also to the many games it has influenced. It was the first of its kind in the go anywhere, do anything open world style games. On top of that Mr. Suzuki had a very strong desire to make Shenmue 3. Of course Sega is interacting with Mr. Suzuki even now. We will continue supporting him concerning Shenmue 3 as well."*
Nice. They would be silly not to put their imprint on it in some kind of way. It’s ultimately a low risk move especially since Suzuki himself had to get it off the ground.
I remembered renting Shenmue on DC back in high school.
And because I had to return it on Monday and my friends gf’s bday was on Sunday… I took that damn DC with me.
Some people at the party had to watch me drive a forklift around. Great times. For me. Probably not her.
On this day…16 years ago…Shenmue was released in japan. Time sure goes fast !
Happy birthday Shenmue and Thank Yu for creating something so dear to this oh so mere human being.
I’m liking the art style a lot. its faithful to the original games but with more detail; the original game had personality in its detail and now it has more detail in its personality.
obviously things like the wall scrolls and character model isn’t finished yet but its a nice nostalgia moment of when the graphics were like that.
I remember playing shenmue 2 on the xbox (missed out on it on dreamcast) and watching the included play through of shenmue 1 before playing it, I thought to myself “wow, its a bit more boring than I remember” then obviously playing shenmue 2 and loving it instantly. what was excellent about the pacing of shenmue 1 was that it really gave you the opportunity to just live in the pace of that town, and I can imagine it really feeling like that for yu suzuki. the art style was good enough to have respect for it for at least a few years but the pacing and graphics aren’t at the right balance to be appreciated long term. though I know in the future there will be a generation that will know how to align their thoughts and feelings with older games with similar pacing
Sony ain’t stupid. The series may be beloved but both games were commercial failures. Covering distribution is how they can gain brownie points without taking a major risk.
Has Sega said anything about their involvement yet? I would at least like to see some sega capsule toys/collectibles with some of the old school hits Yu made.
Never played any of the Shenmue games, but often hear about the franchise throughout the years of growing up. Shenmue III is looking quite impressive so far, and the music sounds beautiful as well (I honestly can’t wait to listen to more).
If you do get to play it at some point… Give the game some time & dedication.
Alot of people has said this before me , but… The more you give it , the more it gives to you.
Shenmue is a spiritual experience…almost like a… pilgrimage?
oh yeah, that video was great. love the analysis and presentation, i’m a stickler for nostalgia.
the music for this game is so sweeping and beautiful, the music for shenmue 3 based on what they’ve shown so far appears to have the same feel.
totally agree on the level of immersion in the first 2 games, can’t beat that at the time.
