Straight razors while being the best also require hella maintenance or so the word on the street is
Yeah, I found that out the hard way a few years ago. I used to use them for lining people up. You’d think that there is no way in the world that hair could dull a piece of metal. Before you know it, they aren’t cutting as well and then you have to sharpen them. Some people think that they’ll just grab one and strop it or grind and shapen it, but it goes a lot deeper than that. Stay away from straight razors. I swear taking care of those shits is like maintaining a fucking Samurai katana.
I’m about to go invest in one of those 50-100$ DE Razors (perhaps this one http://www.classicshaving.com/catalog/item/522941/6704497.htm).
How long do you think the blade would last until i had to replace it? Would I have to buy a completely new tool or is there some sort of cartridge system?
You buy double edged safety razors to replace the blades. One blade usually lasts for about 3-4 shavings at least, if dried after usage.
Do you just buy these double edged razors anywhere, snap em in half, and lock a half into the head of the shaving apparatus?
Correct.
