Apparently I shave like a caveman. I don’t use any products aside from a razor, and I run it up/down my neck/face really fucking fast, shaving my entire face of 2-3 days of stubble in about 1-2 minutes. My friend saw me doing it and got freaked out, apparently he uses all this shit on his face and takes like 10 minutes to do it.
I just use shaving gel (Gillette Fusion) after I shower. I’m thinking my biggest problem is that I have very sensitive skin but my whiskers are coarse as hell. Not a good combination. I read the link Septimus posted, I think I’ll try that with the brushes, double edge safety razors and whatnot.
Yeah, it’s weird. I’m much more prone to cut myself if I use shaving cream or gel, for whatever reason.
you are crazy!!! but is your skin soft?
Andis Outliner Pro II
best thing i’ve bought in awhile, $50 but it cuts ohhhh so smooth
as far as razors go I don’t use them. they cut too deep for me (i’m african american) so if I use them I end up getting razor bumps. Machines work wonders for me.
I tell you what, all that old timey shaving stuff looks cool to me. Makes me almost want to grow a handlebar moustache.
I don’t get it…how is this bad? I do this exactly as well (even the time frame!)
I thought I was being smart because post-shower the skin and hairs would be wet enough from the hot water/steam.
That, and I am secretly watching Septimus Prime’s every move… . .!
It’s supposed to be bad for the skin.
lets steer this towards junk shaving, that is a much more dangerous activity
I use cold water when shaving hot water seems to be the better choice but once you try cold it feels A LOT better.
Also I shave after a hot shower and use shaving cream.
Kill the skin entirely, callous, itchiness…?
How bad…?
Now you has me worried =(
I just use water. After my last can of shaving cream ran out… I just never bothered.
Shaving without water/cream is horrible. Their purpose is to provide a thin layer between the razor and skin, so you just shave the hairs, not the outer layer of the epidermis. It’ll cause really sensitive, dry skin. (Unless you’re a beast like Sep and do it for 6 years…my brain exploded when reading that…)
I use mach 3 as my blade of choice. I try to shave everyday, but sometimes I get lazy and wait a few days between shaves. When I shower I use a loofa bar and scrub my face. Then after I shower I dry my face and use Gillette fusion shaving gel. I then leave my blade under some running hot water for a minute or two. Then I shave with the grain. If I need to get closer Ill re-gel and shave very slowly and carefully. Then after the shave i use Gillette fusion shaving balm with aloe with no alcohol. I never forget to pour some alcohol on the blades. I read that the water on the blade leaves mineral buildup and causes the blade to not last as long and not be as sharp.
But thats how I do it and it works for me. I never get razor bumps and I have a heavy beard If I dont shave at least once every 4 days.
beards rule.
It’s best to shave after you used warm water on the hairs you’re about to shave. Also you want to shave with the grain. The only reason why you use foam/gel and shaving with the grain is to avoid cutting your skin and causing irritation. Also if you shave too deep, you could get an ingrown hair. And all that can lead to infection.
But real men don’t need any fufu crap. We just use a razor. I recommend an electric razor, cuts down a lot of the time and less likely to cut yourself.
Braun electrics > Norelcos. I got the new Braun 360 Complete for Christmas and I have been using it every other day for a couple months and I have significantly less irritation than my old Norelco.
Manuals? I’ve been using the Fusion Power. I dig it, too.
Hey there are some products that make the hairs in your hair bumps get strait and stick up our the bump. you can pick or pull them out with some tweesers. I did this about 5 years ago and to this day I swear I have little to no hair bumps. if you stay on it I imagine they won’t even come back. I recommend using a warm towel, and dabbing it lightly on your face before shaving as well… hope you read this if you have questions pm me.
How the hell do you get a perfectly clean shave?
Everytime Im done trying to shave off all my facial hair, theres still this gray kind of “shading” left on the top lip that just doesnt look good. Im sure you guys know what Im talking about.
Is there a way to get even that gray shading off?
Strong, but currently relevant to me, bump.
I use a Dovo straight razor with a traditional badger brush to apply the shaving cream. I’d suggest trying out a old school, single blade razor if you want a close shave without the razor bumps, especially for all of the fellow brothers on SRK.
