I highly doubt this will happen. Casuals need to understand why they are shoving a gem up Ryu’s ass.
A gem saying: “+3frames on Crouching Medium kick”" will make most people who don’'t know fighting games go: “WAT”

Now a Gem saying: “Hadoken does 10% more damage”"
Now that’'s something they might want to use.

As for the Gem system, don’t yall remember the extra bars that was on the top and the bottom of the original meter bar. Maybe a Gem gives you an extra meter bar, two gives you two extra meter bar and yea i agree with yall when yall say don’t change frame data instead, change attack power, Invincibility on start up etc…

You all are worrying about these gems way too much. I promise you, for us they won’t really matter. They won’t be in tournaments. At the very least to save time, but mostly because they’re probably stupid. Same reason you don’t see shit like created isms in cvs2 and custom characters in sc4.

For those talking about heihatchis counter move, it does work on projectiles if they’re close enough. Seth said this yesterday on the character breakdown that was on the front page.

What? Even in a balanced world, there’s still optimization. Not every charecter is going to benefit from every gem.

Let’s say there’s a gem that increases walk speed.
Now, for say, Chun-Li or Juri, a charecter who loves to play pokesies and move around a lot, then that’s a more than welcome gem.
But what in the world woudl you be doing giving that gem to Makoto or El Fuerte?

I’m simply rather irritated at all these questionable design decisions that could have been much better but for how they were implemented. Hell, the gems could have added a lot of depth to the game, even (or especially) if they could change things like hitboxes and timing on moves. Pandora Mode is…well, it seems to be mostly flash. And it’s probably best off like that.

As it seems they’re going to be implemented now (i.e. you collect them by grinding in the game or completing shit) there’s no possible way they’re going to be used in tournaments, so they’re going to be banned and a non-factor.
