SFxTekken General Discussion Thread

Xbox version should get an actual in-series character PS3 versions don’t get. Capcom should take a poll of which character fans want most within the Tekken and SF series and add that character as the Xbox exclusive just to troll.

As in, painfully generic and not the least bit memorable.

Mind you, I know SF and TK had their fair share of crazy characters - but they were all designed with a sort of… I don’t know… vibe. It’s this vibe that makes SF characters fighting TK characters - and your head doesn’t struggle making sense of it. It kinda fits in a meta sort of way.

This vibe was evident in Link’s inclusion in SC2. And even Spawn in the XB version (though Medieval Spawn would make more sense). Necrid, with his distinctly Western design and lazy effort, broke that vibe. Star Wars characters were similarly jarring. Capcom vs SNK, vibe intact. Marvel vs Capcom, vibe in tact (famously). TvC, vibe in tact. Sonic in Smash, vibe not only in tact, we wondered why Mega Man didn’t get love (a recurring theme, I guess). Kratos worked within MK’s vibe.

Now here’s Cole, one of Sony’s so-so attempts at creating some kind of ‘character stable’. I don’t like Cole as you may have guessed. His design is the sort of thing I wouldn’t accept from my artist and/or writing partners. BUT, he had an okay game. He works for his game. Now he’s in a fighting game, SFxTK. It doesn’t work. It feels forced, like you can see a Sony exec demanding Capcom do something differ their version from the others (competitive gamers be damned). You can see them suggesting Cole against better judgment, and Capcom fumbling at how he would work. Dream crossovers are a time for icons and surprise obscures, Cole is neither. He’s that game that went against [Prototype] two years ago - starring Alex Mercer who deserves a guess spot in a crossover fighter way more than… some kind of electric delivery boy? I don’t know.

I know I may sound like a dick right now, especially since I’m the main one telling people never to diss a character “because all characters are somebody’s favorite.” It’s just that in this case, whoever considers Cole a favorite… is likely mentally disabled and deserves to drink bleach.

It’s a crossover. Shit don’t need to make sense. Just the fact that characters that would never interact with each otherwise getting the chance to do so. IMO, Cole doesn’t necessary seem out of place in Street Fighter. In Street Fighter you have a Dictator who’s empowered by “psycho power” with a different assortment of powers like flight, teleportion, projection, using his psycho power as projectiles or empowering his strikes . Juri from the Super Street Fighter OVA gets ridiculous level of powers like kicking an RPG out of the air and using her aura to protect herself from gunfire. How is Cole out of place when characters like these exist in Street Fighter?

I explained my feelings and addressed your questions best I can in the post you quoted. Sorry but it is what it is.

Marcus Fenix with Zangief style play… Or Cole Trane… Just not Master Chief. Anything but the Chief.

Cole would fit in SF if he looked like Rufus with pikachu powers.

Only Chief I’d like to see added would be Chief Thunder from KI.

And they say the Japanese are bad at character design. You could at least give it to Kim in GOW since he’s Asian, not White.

I’m calling it now: Xbox version gets Duke Nukem.

Where’s Hwoarang Sagat and Cammy gameplay?
I hope I didn’t wait 3 weeks just for this Cole crap?

It’s not like this is the end of Capcom’s showing of the game at E3 (this wasn’t even at a Capcom event, this was Sony’s).

They’ve still got a couple of panels, one with Ono and Dave Crislip and another with Seth.

Phew

I wouldn’t mind a DBZ guest character in Streetfighter to be honest

Like Goku/Vegeta

Ehhhhh… I don’t think so, bro…

Goku too shoto-like?

DBZ characters would be more welcome in Marvel.

I’ll settle for Capcom x SNK. 2.5D reboot with SF4 art style (with new filters)

Hmmmmm… it’s not that exactly… but… I’ll have to agree with this:

and 50% this, although, it’s not relevant:

However, I’m not digging “special guests” in my vs. Capcom series, no matter how much I like the character.

It’s bad enough Smash Bros. did it.

Meh. As someone stated earlier. It’s not like it affects competitive play seeing as their auto-banned for being console exclusive.
