The character thing is such a stupid quip to not buy the game. Ask yourself if you truly want to be far behind other players who started playing the game earlier.

It depends. Microsoft allows a certain amount of free patches based on the amount of paid content. With 12 separate characters, plus the gems DLC; it is possible that Capcom could push out a patch with each group of characters that contained their info. That way, any one patch wouldn’t be that big. Though, from what people have said, the first 4 DLC characters are on the disc already. I have no way to confirm that.

That’s still different from a “Super” edition that doesn’t work with the original disc. That said, they really need to name these things better. There’s still a few folks who think that AE is yet another separate disc release who get surprised whenever I tell them that I got AE for only $14 (or think I’ve hacked when I load the Super disc in and get the AE characters).

You should look into how much has been added to Gran Turismo 5 via patches… like over 10 gig

From what Ono’s teasing, pretty sure we’re getting those twelve characters this spring and summer. I don’t see them releasing it late.

Perhaps we’ll see them before the last EVO qualifiers so they don’t get banned.

I wouldn’t mind these characters coming out after Evo, 38 is enough (one short of SSFIVAE) and with another 12 and a rebalance for next years Evo, will make it fresh.

I want more! One of the appeals from this game is the diverse cast.

after reading all the post thus far from the last time i was here they thread has derailed…o_O I thought this way about trying to justify why you should or should not buy the game on launch? not DLC Dilemma 2.0

Think about it this way. Think back to the days where Video Games were simple, fun, intuitive, and not marketed worse then a Michael Bay movie. Look at the game with its actual value to you, the consumer! first then judge whether or not this game is right for you. There are many simple steps in figuring out if your going to enjoy a game without giving yourself grey hairs.

SFxTK is no exception. We have all seen the trailers for the game and being as simple as possible, the game is still largely 60% SFIV(take that how you will) so make it or break it Part 1. Did you enjoy SFIV series? SFxTK has a great verity in its cast from both franchises so make it or break it Part 2. Do you like any of the characters on the Roster? SFxTK has alot of game modes including pair play for up to 4 players, scramble mode, robust challenge, training, and online modes giving you alot of different diversions outside of normal Versus/Arcade mode, make it or break it Part 3. Do any of these new additions excite you? Calculate Possible results…

Yes to all 3 questions: Pre-order/Day one purchase given you were being truthful to your answers.
Yes to 2 out of 3: 50/50 on day one purchase, could be later in the week waiting on reviews.
Yes to 1 out of 3: Used or will need hands on convincing for purchase.
Yes to 0 out of 3: Uninterested, did not meet your requirements.

This of course has nothing to do with DLC and honestly it should not sway your judgement on purchasing this game(this isn’t Mass Effect 3…your not missing out on the world). The Collectors Edition is a Option for those who want the “extra” content, and who are willing to pay the money for it. I would only recommend it for those who want what comes with it, otherwise skip it or ignore it completely.

Post Launch DLC: most people are bogged down with the idea of their missing out on at least something but in reality, no one is. “How is that possible? the Vita version has 12 more characters then the console versions” True, the Vita does have 12 more characters then the Console versions. Was those 12 characters ever announced for consoles? short answer No, and you should leave it alone for not, if those character were deal breakers for you then your out of luck until they announce them for consoles. Gems, Costumes, and Colors are also set to be DLC. Some as soon as Day 1.

Closing Comments: In the end, consumers intending to get the game(whether they are a fan or not) will get the game, for whatever reason your not getting the game, its fine until you justify it with ludicrous logic. The most used one is “Im not getting the game because Console/PC versions of the game are not getting Vita characters on their March 6th release date or will be available for download within a short time frame.” The thing i love about this is that the Vita characters were never officially announced for Consoles/PC and yet people feel cheated because of what ESRB says, even though they have been notorious for being wrong about in-game content in the past. The thing to take away from this is, its not as though the Vita characters will be exclusive to that port of the game for too long, like with AE Im sure they plan for a update of some sort, however the time and place for them to announce something like that should no be before the game is released…the fact we even know about the vita characters is a mystery to even me but NO ONE should be mad about it.

perfect example of being ungreatful, maybe we should go back to how things used to be huh? when developers didn’t talk with their fans or people of the community…but the trade off would be we get full games again right? what about updates and patches? buy the game again…prove your loyalty to capcom any buy it again! YES!!! ok i got off ranting again but you get the picture…

just pre-ordered the limited edition verion.

This game has hella value. How many hours have you spent playing fighting games as of late? This game is going to either replace AE, UMVC3 or just another game on the side to play. For those, like me, that are looking to play this more and over AE, pretty much whatever price tag is worth it.

I mean compared to the $45 I spent playing and finishing Uncharted: Golden Abyss on the PSVita and the $50 I’m going to spend on SFxT… it’s a no brainer really when you are looking at the expense to gameplay/replay value.

to be honest if i really like the game, i will get the DLC. i liked KoF13 so i am getting the DLC for that game, it’s as simple as that.

the Limited Edition version was only 10 dollars more and i get all those other gems right off the bat so i couldn’t be happier (but really that piggy bank is what i want). if it’s going to replace a game? all i can say is that i will be focusing way more on this than MvC3 (i’ve lost almost all interest in that game) and i prefer the Alpha / EX gameplay over how MvC3 does.

I just want to buy one game so I’ll probably have to wait about a year for the game to drop to about $30, the 2 DLC character packs I want (one with Alisa and the other with Christie and Elena) to drop to about $10 each, plus $10 left over for a few costume packs. That will be almost $60 or the price of one game.

If I buy everything on its release date I’d end up spending $140 or the price of 3 games ($60 for disc, $40 for the 2 character packs I want, and another $40 on costumes) which is just too fucking ridiculous, especially since it would be all within a few months.

But you get to use it over the course of the year that you would otherwise be waiting.

pretty much my thoughts on the game.
pre-ordered special edition. plan on getting dlc. plan to play it more than AE.

I don’t think everybody understands why Day 1 DLC exists.

Sure, it’s a money making scheme sometimes. We know that.

But it’s also used for two other reasons.

First reason: Investment. Some times the guys who made the game are working on something new during the end of what they last worked on, and they think “We need more money.”, so they add something like costume DLC, that’s fast and easy, charge a bit more than expected, and use the money to complete the next project.

Second reason: Using too much resources. Sometimes games cost a ton to make, and they may be spending so much that there will be little or no profits, therefore, making it so that the series might end early. I expect some developers spend extra money on the game, just to get something in like another character, knowing it will be DLC, because if it wasn’t, the time and energy they put into said character would break the budget.

So yeah, would you rather see Day 1 DLC, or no character at all?

Meanwhile at EA:

“Wait, listen, how about we design a game… With $1000 worth of DLC? People have that kind of money right?”

“Of course they do! Brilliant!”

“We’ll call it… Mass Effect 3!”

Sometimes the Capcom deal doesn’t seem so bad…

The Capcom deal is the best one short of the free ones.

Just sheer value for money, UMvC3 was worth it. So was Super and so was AE.

The truth is, it’s the best value for fighting games yet. They consistently have the best deal.

Extra $10 bucks for a papercraft and gems (that’ll probably be super cheap DLC). Capcom could do better. I wouldn’t mind paying an extra $20-30 bucks if we can get a figure, anime movie, artbook, misc.

There never was clarification on what the arcade piggy bank was made of but assuming its cheap cardboard, you still get a decent prequel comic book and the 4 gem packs ( 5 if you preorder). Now let’s assume that the gem packs are 1.99 each then you get 8dollars( 10 if you preorder) worth of gems and you get the piggy bank and comic book as an added bonus. Now if the wild rumors and speculations are true and the gem packs are 2.99 then the extra ten dollars for the special edition save you money compared to buying the game and then buying the extra gems not to mention the fact that special edition owners get the gems day 1 while everyone else has to wait.
I hope somebody shows the piggy bank soon, I don’t want it to be too cheap, as I am a sucker for small trivial novelties such as the arcade bank.

I guess it really depends on how much you value extra gems. I’m not a big fan of it so I’ll be playing with default set. I can’t image the prequel comic book being any good either if mvc3 was any indication. I would love see an unboxing soon and perhaps that will change my mind.
